2024 Triumph Hurdle (Juveniles)

As COD says, Mighty Bandit will win this.

Joseph can aim Lark in the Mornin at the Boodles. Got Nurburgring for the Triumph. Hide him out the back in the grade 2 at Xmas, take him to the Naas rated novice hurdle that Jazzy Matty ran in last year, Brazil won the year before and Aramax and Band of Outlaws also won.

Can aim Harsh there as well.

I said it in jest, however, as you know, I'm super keen on him like yourself.

Am surprised we haven't seen any of the Willie lot out yet. Salvator Mundi, Bunting, Kargese and Majborough are the obvious dangers, although I'm not keen on the latter.

Wonder if he will hold Salvator Mundi or Bunting back, hopefully the former, if that's what he does decide to do.

Very true. Most aren't seen until Xmas/New Year.
 
Bring Willies lot on.

Batman was well supported last week and wasn't great.

Willie should have a couple for the grade 2 at Leopardstown. Kargese, Majborough, Anzadam all winners so may be pitched in this like Gala Marceau. Any of them could be very good - we haven't got long to find out.

I'd expect Salvator Mundi or Bunting to be in the maiden that Tekao won last year seeing as they've not won over hurdles yet. Kopek Des Bordes possibly. Not sure if he has any other juvenile maidens of note.

In the last 10 years, we've had 3 winners debuting after Boxing Day.

Vauban - good winner. 4 flat runs before hurdling.
Burning Victory - lucky Goshen fell. Had 5 flat runs before hurdling so fair amount of racecourse experience.
Pentland Hills - doubt he'd have won if Sir Erec didn't go wrong. 11 flat runs before hurdling.

Ivanovich Gorbatov (3 flat runs), Farclas (4 flat runs) debuted on Boxing Day.

All winners appearing as late as Boxing Day or later had significant racecourse experience.

Salvator Mundi has raced once.
Bunting has raced once.

Kargese, Anzadam and Majborough have 3, 2 and 1 runs each. If I was to have any of Willies in mind, it would be Kargese or Anzadam just because of the experience.

Mighty Bandit is very inexperienced. But that just makes his debut even better. Harsh and Lark in the Mornin were decent flat horses and he waltzed away from them.

If we look historically, he doesn't have the right CV for this - he didn't race on the flat and he didn't start in France over hurdles. That will put people off or make them wary as he wasn't a horse anyone mentioned coming to his debut. He wasn't mentioned on any of the stable tours as far as I am aware.

Gordon has said he lost weight after his first 2 bits of work. They could have took it easy with him, kept him for a bumper in the new year and get him hurdling next year. He'd obviously shown enough in his work to make them put him straight over hurdles (not Gordons usual way with an unraced horse) and the way he quickened and lengthened from the last was the mark of a very good horse.

I'm happy at the moment to only have him for the Triumph.

Got to say i'm not sure how i take this. Positively or negatively + judging by Gordie's comments post-race, i wouldn't say he'd be certain it was because he had worked so well either lol.
 
With Harsh winning today all of the 12's have now gone on Mighty Bandit.

O’Brien is also planning a Christmas appearance for taking Fairyhouse scorer Nurburgring, who will take the next step up the juvenile hurdling ladder in Leopardstown’s Grade Two Knight Frank Juvenile Hurdle on December 26.
He added: “I’m very pleased with him and I thought he was quite impressive as well (at Fairyhouse).

“The plan for him is he is likely to go to Leopardstown at Christmas time for the juvenile hurdle there.”
 
No Sir Gino in the Triumph trial at Cheltenham on Saturday. Will be go to Chepstow first time up?

Doubt it. Hendo doesn't send his Triumph ones there. Probably won't see him until the new year. Maybe the one run at Plumpton then straight there.
 
James Flaherty (attheraces) & Andy holding both putting up mighty bandit, & Andy also selecting nurburgring.

- put this in novice hurdlers but should be in here really.
