2024 Novice Chasers

Jet Powered is the only one this side of the water that I'd be the slightest bit interested in but clearly that would be a huge shit in the dark.

Pretty sure Nicky said he has unfinished business over hurdles he feels. Whether he goes chasing after starting off over hurdles I have no idea.

Would feel like a completely wasted season to me if he did that. What on earth would he run in ? I'll probably stick with the big guns in the Arkle like most. Not backed Facile yet and only done Marine in Doubles so I'm relying on the hyped up Policeman as my only single.

I could be wrong here but hasn't Jet Powered had just the two runs ?
Clearly not a novice but also without a mark, every chance his opening mark will in 130 ish which would see him able to take in every decent 2m handicap.
I got suckered by the noise last season but if there is talent there that mark would see him very competitive in a Betfair hurdle or County or both...
 
Decent start over fences today from Letsbeclearaboutit bar the hash he made of the last. Looked like he could go around again, jumped nice & economically.

Think he’ll just fall short of being a top grade 1 animal this season but he’s definitely in the mix for something like a NHC if that’s the route they want to take but they might fancy the Irish Grand National if he has a workable mark.

That’s only a fortnight from Cheltenham this year so no chance of taking in both. Hopefully with how close Cromwell came to the Aintree version with Vanillier he’ll plot out a similar plan.

Agree with that. As a backer for the National Hunt Chase, happy enough.
I'm fairly lenient on a horses first couple of runs, with that race in mind.
But he showed more than enough promise, over a trip definitely short of his optimum.

Has anyone got any cast iron, quotes on Mister Policeman’s potential involvement with his target being the Arkle come March? I’ve read lots of opinions on here, mostly agreeing this appears to be the case. But I can’t find yet, after a deep dive on the internet, anything quotable of specific substance just yet?

Apparently in OJA with the interview with RR/JC they say arkle is his target but I don't have the book so can't be 100% sure

The ex-French gelding, who began his career with Emmanuel Clayeux across the English Channel, won eight times over fences earning an official rating of 176 last year. A four times winner at Leopardstown, including the Grade 1 Dublin Chase on three occasions, it is worth remembering he was absent for 1089 days between March 2016 and March 2019. He was good, very good and I'm surprised theres still 20s about for him in the Turners. It's going to be a good early match up between him and Good Land, and as a backer of both, it wouldn't surprise me if Sharjah has a little bit more boot than GL in the Drinmore.

Yes, must just be his age putting us off. Must be highest rated Hurdler going chasing this season? Could end up in Arkle or Turners.

I'm certainly not put off by his age, Faugheen came close to doing it and Sharjah is a year younger and looks to be loving life over them. I'd say Turners be long odds on with Ricci having an eye on the Arkle with Policeman, he also looked very well suited by the mid distance there, doesn't put too much pressure on jumping at speed.

Aye, 20s Turner is a must have imo. He's one of very few in the betting who you'd think will be aimed at the intermediate trip.

I get the 11yo novice chaser will put a few off like. But Faugheen went close at 12 and, although better in his prime, was achieving similar RPRs in his final season hurdling. Coincidentally when Faugheen was beaten by Sharjah.

3rd in the county this year off 12st is a pretty solid effort to suggest he retains plenty of ability. And he's showed enough enthusiasm to attack his fences from the front there today to think he's got enough to give for a season over fences as well.

I've taken some 20s anyway.

And the Mister Policeman double obviously :emmersed:

I Like To Move It 40/1 could be a decent enough E/W bet for the Arkle, that said, IF the main protagonists turn up I struggle to see him beating them, but over this side of the Irish Sea he could end up winning a fair few races on the way and his price will be gone, not to mention, if the race cuts up like it normally does a 40/1 place is no bad bet.

I'm struggling to find horses in Britain for the Arkle and he is one that stands out to me.

On the exchanges he is the only British horse in the top 16!!!!

From what I've seen of him I don't think a step up in trip is required at all. He's been soundly beaten twice over the intermediate trip. I do think he prefers better ground, so I wouldn't want it coming up 'Soft' or worse on the day. He's actually unbeaten when the going has been described solely as 'Good'.

He just looks a solid E/W option, more so for those who are book building, at least.

That's interesting, as a few were saying he wasn't even back in the yard yet. Some one has got it wrong, if he's getting entries.
