2024 Novice Chasers

Also said being aimed BANC but NHC also an option in the Cheltenham Kalendar - could see a late decision like what happened with Next Destination.

Did he name both races? Paul isn't a big fan of the NHC so lets hope SAF turns out to be good

"He is likely to be aimed at the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase, but he could go for the National Hunt Chase. I think he is capable of doing one or the other.

He is a good, strong, solid stayer and I'm convinced that he will jump well.”

Am i right in saying the Next Destination year was because the Pro could ride it in the NHC?

Cobden should be on him for the RSA if they get that far.

I'd say theres absolutely no chance he ends up in a NHC, way too classy and he won't have TOO many 3m chasers this side of the irish sea to deal with. They'll also ensure Harry has a nice ride in the BANC.

TOTG was in the 2m3f in December (seems to have changed to 3m now too) rather than the 3m on Haldon Gold Cup day.

His runners in the November 3m in the last five years have been:

2022 - Flash Collonges (2nd)
2021 - Threeunderthrufive (1st)
2020 - Enrilo (1st)
2019 - no runner
2018 - Coup De Pinceau (1st)

A bit of a mixed bag, really (at best).

If he's going there, I'd be looking at rearranged G2 Francome at Sandown, then Warwick for the G2 Hampton and then Cheltenham. He's mentioned the Kauto Star for him, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't beaten there - he doesn't strike me as a future King George horse at all.

The revised calendar still looks to be a bit of a mess post Xmas - the Reynoldstown is your only real option after the Kauto Star and that is typically a brutal race.

So where does champ kiely sit in willies plans? I’ve always thought of him as a BANC of turners horse. Not so sure about him for NH chase this season. Would be more interested in him next season if he remained a novice. So with IEP going churdle and Gaelic warrior possibly stayers, then champ must be right up there.

12/1 TWAR removes this headache

Yep. Spot on. Perfect horse to use the TWAR option as he has 3 options over fences and also the Stayers possibly over hurdles should he not take to the big ones. 8/1 or greater is very fair.

He's a bag of shite man:onthego:

One I very much think Paul will hold back for Aintree this season

He's not one I'd back. And actually looked at the market after the post and he's much shorter with bookies and not available on BEX.... But the only scenario I can think of for PN to suggest SAF might go NHC is if he has something else for the BANC. And it's the only one I could think of :excitement:

HA would be the better of the two as a Hurdler in PN's eyes I'd say so you'd think he'd be aimed at the BANC if he did go to the Festival.

I couldn't be having that Lobos, one is a festival winner who held off plenty of the Irish. The other got slaughtered and was well outclassed, and the only excuse he could come up with was that the ground was 'tacky':emmersed:

Higher rated Hurdler.....just. I was all over him for the Ballymore but couldn't back him this time around. Think the only Nicholls horse I'll be getting involved with is Stage Star who is Paddy Power Chase bound. He bloody loves Cheltenham that one.

….I actually backed him for BANC before the AB based solely on PN pre-Festival stable tour when he said this one was a staying chaser and anything he did in the in the AB would be a bonus.

Only slight downside is him finishing behind Maximilian twice but I think there are excuses. Maximilian looks an out and out stayer and might be of interest in NHC. Knowing the trainer, you have to wonder if he’s back planning for a tilt at a future GN (Simon Rowlands after 2nd to Apple Away over 3m at Aintree; ‘Maximilian might well need this trip and further over fences or hurdles next season’).

….looks to have been a bit of interest in Maximilian NHC, 20-1 now best available.

I was looking at him, but I have some doubts about him.

Firstly I think he's been well placed by Donald McCain, and in turn with this I'd like to see him do it on some stiffer tracks at a high level. His three runs over 3m or thereabouts have been at Bangor, Doncaster & Aintree, and whilst Aintree still takes some getting, the other two are pretty sharp tracks, to my knowledge at least.

Secondly, his breeding. This can be taken however you wish, but he's been winning over 3m on sharp tracks, IMO, because his breeding is all flat related. His dam hasn't produced much, nor his grand dam etc... but his sire is well known for very good, intermediate types, like Torquator Tasso, In Swoop & Alenquer, among others.

Overall I'm not convinced Cheltenham will suit him, nor do I think he's a 'boat'.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he remained over hurdles. I'm not sure the decision has been made yet.
