2024 Champion Chase

Ascot in doubt this weekend

could we still get the El Fab/Jonbon clash on Trials day ?

Just wondering were there excuses for Fil Dor's two tries over the intermediate trip so far, the 2m5f of the Coral Cup and then 2m4f at Fairyhouse? Both of which were woeful efforts.

Don't think there's any doubt is there ? Temps up in the teens.

It's chicken feed stuff but El Fab come back in on Betfair for the Clarence House. Last priced match was actually shorter than the 6/4 PP are offering...

I think it’s pretty simple and connections have said as much.

If Ascot is on, he is running there, if its off it’s DRF even if the Clarence House is rescheduled as they don’t want to travel twice (not sure when they’d come over this week as likely give it every chance to be on).

Folk just cottoning on to the fact he was second fav at 7/2 I think for the DRF as it wasn’t the race he is intending running and the cold snap possibly forcing Ascot off.

Risky play at the prices imo as I’d want a decent enough stake on at that price and if Ascot is on it’s down the drain.

Excellent
Just need the weather to be kind now

I can't imagine they'll have any issues getting it on. Raceable ATM and won't go lower than -4 overnight next 2 nights which is fine. Will get above freezing during the next few days and up to 10 degrees on Saturday itself. They'll be fine.

The article says mainly raceable and it’s good to soft frozen in places.
with colder night’s forecast tonight and tomorrow.
not quite as rosy as your interpretation

Cheltenham raced one year after -10 overnight for two nights. Ascot should be ashamed if they can't get it on.

The clerk of the course is saying a lot different unfortunately
Have you not seen that?

Clerk of the Course Chris Stickells said; “We were minus two overnight and there is still some frost under the covers especially under the shadows of the grandstand and some of the landings and take offs around the shaded areas of the fences.

“But it is slightly better than it was this time yesterday. However the forecast does indicate a couple more severe frosts especially the next couple of nights at minus three or minus four and at the moment Friday night is also a bit difficult to forecast because of this conflicting situation over whether it’s going to freeze or not. Certainly, if the frost gets into the ground quite severely over the next couple of nights then it’s going to be a bit of a challenge.

“It might be more straightforward if it is really cold the next two nights with severe frost and the situation becomes hopeless on Friday but at this stage it is difficult to read but we are getting some hope with the milder conditions hopefully arriving in time.”
