Henderson said: "It's something that's been at the back of my mind for a while.

"We got Barry (Geraghty) down to school him this morning and at 8am we weren't sure whether we were going to school him over hurdles or fences!

"He's done well over fences and we might go down that route again in the future, but he was also a very good novice hurdler last season and he's such a slick jumper.

"We schooled him over hurdles this morning and he was like an arrow, so that's the route we're going to go down."

Elaborating on plans, the Seven Barrows handler added: "He won't run in the Scilly Isles and he won't go in the Contenders Hurdle as JP has Yanworth going there.

"The race we're looking at is the Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso. We won it last year with Top Notch and it's a race and track that I like.

"I think two and a quarter miles there on a bit of soft ground will be absolutely perfect for Buveur D'Air and we'll take it from there."

The news has unsurprisingly had a significant impact on the Champion Hurdle betting, with Buveur D'Air now as short as 5-1 with some bookmakers.

Sky Bet cut Buveur D'Air to 6/1 for the Champion Hurdle, for which they offer non-runner, no bet.

With last year's winner Annie Power already ruled out and doubts hanging over 2015 hero Faugheen after missing Sunday's Irish Champion Hurdle, Henderson feels the race is up for grabs.

"It does look wide open," he said. "As well as Buveur D'Air we've got Brain Power and My Tent Or Yours, and JP also has Yanworth and Jezki, but you don't mind having a few in a race like the Champion Hurdle.

"What's happened to Annie Power is very sad, but Faugheen is still there and we're not switching Buveur D'Air because of what's happened to him.

"It's been an executive decision between myself, JP, AP (McCoy) and Frank (Berry, racing manager).

"There are a lot of members on the board and we were all in agreement."

Asked whether he considered a similar switch with Altior, who has looked imperious in three starts over fences to date, the trainer added: "No. Everything is going very well for him and we didn't even enter him in the Champion Hurdle, whereas we did put Buveur D'Air in.

"Altior schooled over fences this morning and was great and all going well and ground permitting, he's on course to go to Newbury for the Game Spirit."

Meanwhile, Berry confirmed Yanworth was on course to have his prep run for the Champion in the Betfred-sponsored Contenders Hurdle.

Trained by Alan King, the seven-year-old, is currently second-favourite for the Cheltenham showpiece at around 3-1, and Berry said: "Hopefully, Yanworth will go to Sandown."

Yanworth has won both his starts this season, his latest success coming on the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, but he is expected to be better suited to the stiffer track at Sandown.

Although Buveur D'Air is set to swerve Sandown, Henderson also has impressive Ascot handicap hurdle scorer Brain Power with which to take on Yanworth at the weekend.

The Paul Nicholls-trained Irving might try to make amends for his fall in the Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock recently while Rayvin Black, Hurry Henry and Sleepy Haven make up the seven entries.

Wow that is short... I took 16/1 NRNB with Racebets on Sunday night .... thanks to OV I think!

Great bet Kev....if only I did it myself :heart-borken: got 12s though.

Yanworth fairly weak on Betfair ...whether a reaction to B Dair or something more sinister time will tell.

Faugheen shortening up today..almost back to the odds he was before the news

I'd guess just a reaction - doesnt inspire confidence when JP thinks he needs another bullet in the race - would assume Jezki will go Stayers now though - he won't run 3 in it - will he ?

I think Jezki was always going to the stayers.

Rumours floating around twitter that Yanworth is out and hes drifted on the exchanges

Yanworth out of the Contenders Hurdle with a setback.

..Alan King said: "He has a slight tweak on the rear hind quarters and needs a few easy days. I'm expecting him to be alright in a few days"

Bit of a coincidence with BD being put in yesterday?

All this talk of Yorkhill being Rerouted to the champion hurdle if Faugheen doesn't make it, are we not forgetting about Vroum Vroum Mag? She has been labelled the super sub for quite some time now and would look the logical to step in? Not great LTO but Mullins has said a cold or infection could be to blame, still done well and was brave to win.

Leaves Ricci with Lets dance/Limini for the mares

Connections were convinced last year Limini was a better horse than VVM, I can't see VVM having the speed needed to win a champion hurdle.
Made hard work of her Mares win last year and every chance The Govaness would have got very very close had she not tumbled at the last, those behind her that day have done little to boost the form too.
I don't think they can re-route VVM to the champion hurdle, but if Limini were to prove her wellbeing that would be a different story....

Change of plan! With Yanworth not going to @Sandownpark on Sat. Buveur will now head there instead. Lots of chopping & changing this week!

:devilish: betfair exchange ahead of the announcement ...

2 of top 3 in the market havent jumped a hurdle in public this season

3/5 if you include yorkhill.

Jezki's price being shortened in many firms now.

Maybe he is going here?

My 14-1 docket lives in hope now :)

What would Apple's Jade SP be if she went into this race with last seasons form?

Faugheen out by the sounds of it. After last year I haven't done too many AP multis and none with him on, but gutting. Love that guy. Will we see him on course again at this rate?
