2016 World Hurdle

Is thistlecrack home and hosed in the race, unless we see whisper returned to form or saphir du rheu has a successful breathing operation, thistlecrack is looking like a festival banker right now???
 
Can't fault what Thistlecrack has done so far, but have we seen the Irish fire anything yet? Martello Tower, Windsor Park still to come out and run, Mullins plotting Clondaw Court route if it doesn't get injured
 
I noticed a drift for Aux Ptit Soins out to 16s, another setback maybe ?
If he doesn't go I agree Thistlecrack could be a very warm fav
 
Martello Tower probably needed the run but hard to be impressed today. Artic Fire straight to Aintree ?
 
Mullins dosent make many mistakes in placing his horses but why was Artic Fire in that race today and not against Nichols Canyon in the Ryanair.Strange decision that for me!

Have to disagree, was purely a placement of convenience. First time at 3m for a horse who is notably keen, on heavy going...only going to end up in one result.
 
Re Artic Fire - I think Willlie said it was a prep for Champion Hurdle in RP too.

He did say that, but it poses the question why run a horse over 3m as a prep ?
Could he not find a suitable 16-20f race anywhere in the calendar over the past couple of weeks ?
Surely Kempton's Xmas hurdle would have been a better prep or is this another case of avoiding a stable clash ?
 
Had a look at this now a few are NRNB.

I think the 5/1 about Annie Power in this NRNB with Bet365 Skybet Paddy Power and Betfair Sportsbook is worth a proper professional punt. She will be 6/4 on the day if she was declared for this rather than the mares. Have backed her each way and will trade out if she is declared.

Very low risk bet MG but remember a fit Thistlecrack would be vying for favouratism even with AP declared, so perhaps 9/4 the pair ?
I still she's a very short price to go for the mares, they resisted the temptation to stick Quevega in the World hurdle and I would rate that mare a pound or two above Annies Power, and that was while the race was a G2, I'm sure they also feel like they lost a year when she was turned over by More of That.
The Mares is a penalty kick in my opinion.

Barry Geraghty was in our box last year and said that he thought her absence from the racecourse was responsible for her final flight tumble in that renewal, he was convinced that a lack of prep run was responsible and that she forgot how to adjust when reaching the flight on a bad stride.
I'm sure Mullins will be keen to get her to the course before March....

9 b g Oscar - Fermoy Surprise
Winner of eight of his 20 starts. Classy staying hurdler who finished fourth, beaten only six and three quarter lengths, to Cole Harden in the Grade 1 World Hurdle at Cheltenham (3m) last March. Currently rated 157 over hurdles.
"He is in good form and came back quite late. The plan is to get him ready for the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham at the end of this month. We are looking forward to getting him out and the main aim will be the World Hurdle and then onto Aintree. He has been a hard horse to keep sound and he's a bit fragile but obviously has loads of ability."
 
Segal does this tonight.

Books have cut Cole Harden ( looks the obvious one) ADO VVM and Martello Tower.

Well fancied for the race last year and beat Cole Harden at Aintree, must have decent ground but will surely be shorter than 25s if it comes up good ?
 
I quite like Prince Of Scars at 20/1 ew. Though not sure about good ground.

Definitely an improver LR and dead heated in his maiden hurdle on decent ground so should be OK.
They can water right up to the Wed night if there is a dry spell and the ground gets quick, it'll never be run on quicker than good to soft...
 
He seems a different horse for new stable and upped to 3m. The only thing is he reminds me of Lieutenant Colonel last year who flopped at the Fest.
 
I've not commented for some time now but i've been reading everyone's opinions with great interest, for me the world hurdle has gone from one of the festivals most open race 3 months ago to now what seems a one horse race for me with Thistlecrack, start of the season i was confident that without an interrupted prep Whisper was the form horse and the one the rest had to come and beat, however with two runs to date he has disappointed and subsequently drifted in the market, all my ante post bets for this market have now turned to Thistlecrack, even if annie power turned up, which i highly doubt, i think she would struggle to catch Thistlecrack up the hill, apart from my selection my attention is only drawn to two other contenders, one a festival winner with any amount of improvement in him with Aux Ptits Sons and the other an old pretender looking to finally do himself justice and who is far too big a prive even with his latest disappointment at Ascot, Saphir Du Rheu, he travelled like a dream in the hennesy until the last two fences, second in last years world hurdle, neither trip or ground a concern, so if he turned up at 16/1 and on his game which is questionable now you'd hate not to have a bit of each way value about him, he was after all favourite for this last season
 
Pricewise tips for the World Hurdle are Vroum Vroum Mag 10/1 & Windsor Park 16/1
 
gjt - your point about uninterrupted prep is extremely valid, I'm not sure you can spend most of the season unfit then expect to be spot on for March, I was a huge Aux Ptit Soins fan but unless we start getting some very positive news from the PN yard soon he can be ignored.
Whisper may have disappointed this year so far but he should never leave his box until we get decent ground, he simply doesn't go a yard with cut, he does have a couple of wins to his name on deep ground but they were both weak affairs, at the top level he just can't compete, given a dry spell and some decent Spring ground for March I believe he can be very competitive.

It looks like VV Mag and Windsor Park are the Pricewise recommendations....
