Dunno if anyone follows it racing on Instagram but they had a split screen of Willie and Hendon watching the Aintree Hurdle, and what I found very interesting is that Willie keeps looking away from the finish to check Constitution Hill and Nico are ok. As competitive as sport is, one thing I love about the game is how driven trainers are by their love of the animals they train

When interviewed after Gaelic Warrior's win, he was clearly more focused on the welfare of Embassy Gardens.

Not sure why the race starts are now becoming such a farce in some of the big races?

Frankly it’s an embarrassment and will be again tomorrow if the GN starts the same way as the Topham today

I can’t remember there being such an issue with NH race starts in the past, so what’s happening ? - is it that jockeys now in big races understand the importance of not giving lengths away at the start and getting horses that need to be up towards the front in a race a good start. It’s not just the starter, which I initially thought was the issue, it appears that the jockeys are not doing what they are told, not wanting to lose a position due to the importance of the race start to their horses chances

Interesting that the tape was not lowered in the Topham today - why do they need a tape then?

No apologies for asking what maybe a stupid question - apart from some of the large field handicaps, why doesnt NH operate stalls for starts as per the flat ?

Mullins into 6/1 for the championship from 8/1. Planned on playing it at 8s forgot but have just had 5pts on at 6/1

He's won over 400k today, still a fair way off Dan who I think will have brought in close to 100k, so probably 1m behind Dan.

I suspect he will close another 150k tomorrow- even more if El Fab turns over Jonbon. Which to me means you are getting g 6/1 to win the national which is better than market value as we know if he is in striking distance the battalion will coming over to Ayr, Sandown, Carlisle and the rest!

El Fab possibly put an end to that (though Kopek winning would have been an additional 26k), think he closed around 80-100k today. So about 900k to close, Kitzbuhel and the national would be 640k, but Dan has L'eau du Sud and Catch Him Derrh well fancied for some decent pots.

I don't think it's a stupid question - now.
10+ years ago i wouldve laughed at the idea as completely pointless.
However it's became clear over the recent years that a clear power shift has happened, top races in the past were dominated by horses ridden by British based jocks.
Irish based jockeys were in the minority and lined up where they got the shuffled in to, by the majority, which were british based jocks

This isn't criticism of the irish based jockeys.
it's just an opinion ive formed.
It might be time for some kind of stall start to stop the battle between the jockeys

Haven't read anything but I'd be surprised if they aren't working back from the Mares Hurdle already.

I followed you in & put her in as many doubles/trebles as made sense immediately after yesterdays run, she’s surely nailed on for the race, given Cullentra’s form of late the performance can be significantly marked up imo.

Just like that he's 4/9. Won over 800k on the national alone

….didn’t notice the Hayley Turner retirement announcement yesterday and that she’s due to have a baby in October. Hopefully it goes well for her and I dare say she’ll get a job in media when the time is right.

….first GN bet for next year, Resplendent Grey 100-1 with cash-out. Be 8 for the race next year, was doing all his best work at the end of NHC, finishing 4th giving weight to most of the field. Interested how Olly Murphy manages him next season.

Anyone pick up on nicky henderson last week randomly saying Jessie Harringtons going to win the english 2000 guineas during an interview. Struck me as odd to come out with it, but may have missed the full context. Either way, article in Racing Post today suggesting Green Impact 33/1 will be heading to the english guineas and Hotazhell 16/1 french gns.

…stable tour;

”We set our stall out by deciding not to run him again after he won the Group 2 at the Irish Champions Festival as we wanted to give him plenty of time to mature with a view to maximising him this year. I’m delighted with how well he did over the winter. He’s a big, laid-back horse and we’ve been very happy with his work so far. We have entered him everywhere and won’t make a decision until we need to, but I’d imagine it will be either the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket or possibly the Irish 2,000 Guineas. If he goes to either of those, I don’t think he’ll have a run beforehand. He has an entry in the Derby too and I wouldn’t want to rule out that possibility. He’s by Wootton Bassett out of a Galileo mare with a relaxed racing demeanour, so he could stay that far.”

Saxon Warrior ’s views would be interesting here….

Green Impact has proved a tough one to pass, in his 3 races.

The Maiden where he debuted in 2nd he made the winner battle it out right to the end, and the subsequent form in behind, for me, made it the deepest Maiden of the season.

Those that chat to me through the summer/autumn on Flat racing, away from F.J. website, know I tracked that specific Maiden race form all last autumn.

2nd Green Impact - Won Mdn and Group 2 (112 OR)
3rd Currawood - Won Mdn now (95 OR)
4th Bernard Shaw - Won Mdn, 3rd Grp 2 (109 OR)
5th Black Forza - Won Mdn and Group 2 (103 OR)
6th Apples and Bananas- Won next 3 (103 OR)
7th Ja'Marr - Won 2 times as 2yo (80 OR)
8th Rock of Cashel - Won next start (103 OR)
9th Trinity College- Won twice, 2nd in Gp3 (105 OR)

I picked up on this race form pretty quickly, after a couple had Won, and rode a few waves on it, but by no means all of them

Green Impact was beaten a Neck by Hazdann (D.Weld) on that debut, and I waited all season for Hazdann to reappear and he didn't.

He came back last weekend and close 4th to Henri Matisse (OR 116) btn 1.5L in a race with battle-hardened horses from last season only just ahead of him.

Dermot Weld was quick to say Irish 2000Gns for Hazdann was the target (end of May).

Green Impact's 2 runs after that amazing Maiden race were 2 wins

a Maiden and a 4-runner Group 2.

Both times getting first run on Aidans Delacroix and holding on well enough to win snuggly (more so in the Maiden).

That Maiden win was when Delacroix was making his debut. He's now a 116 OR and one of Aidans main Derby hopes currently having Won the Ballysax last weekend

Personally I though Delacroix would beat Green Impact when they met again after Delacroix had won him Mdn between times.

They both showed up in a 1M Group 2 with form figures of 21.

Delacroix went off 5/6F, Green Impact 5/2 in a 4 runner field

Green Impact took the lead in the straight and held on well when Delacroix came at him.

Subsequently Delacroix has won 2 Group 3's either side of a 2nd beaten only a Nose in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Doncaster.

That race is usually Won by Aidan, and usually ends up the best 1M Group 1 2yo race of the season.

So when you look at Green Impact you have a hardened body of work.

If Jessie decides to go to Newmarket I doubt he'd go off anywhere near 33/1.
He would go much shorter.

Her other big 2yo was Hotazhell, and he was the one who beat Delacroix a nose in the Group 1. The French classics seem to be on his agenda.

At that price you could dabble with an E/W double or two

Aidan doesn't seem to know what he's doing at Newmarkets Guineas races the last few years particularly the Colts, with even 2yo brilliance and future stars being readily turned over at HQ.

So I'd be happy to take on Twain if thats seriously the best horse he is going to run in it.

Maybe
Green Impact 33s
Doubled with a Festival horse (or 2) Each Way

for small stakes
that you want to try and get the Cheltenham one on board for the Place payout.

Kalif Du Berlais 16s Champion Chase for example.

That must be around 30/1 for the Place Double

The Win Part would be mind boggling so I'd park that thought until/unless the first part happened and focus on the Place Double potential.

Its the sort of thing I throw around in my head when thinking of putting a "now" horse with a next March horse

If we knew Green Impact was defo coming to Newmarket

Excellent write up.
best price 25s with paddy now, but 16s and 20s with the majority of firms

….i took that 33s (boosted 36-1) with Hills earlier but they’ve cut to 20s now and only 16s in other places. As you say, still 25s with PP who have stablemate Hotazhell shorter even though France looks his target.

Just done the Saxon e/w double & I also had a little interest in 40-1 (boosted 44-1 Lads) for Derby based on Harrington’s comments.

I like a horse in the same ownership as Green Impact for the derby, Stanhope Gardens for ralph becket. Again, has the formline with Delacroix.
