Well personally I would say beating seasoned 2 milers as a novice was pretty respectful, especially at the end of the season. And only. 2 weeks after his Aintree win.
Next March he will have more experience behind him and would be expected (by me anyway) to beat the likes of CG much more comfortably.

Fully agree Archie. He only jumped poorly in the Arkle as he was under pressure. For me El Fabiolo jumped as equally sketchy he just had too many gears for Jonbon plus given he’s less experienced he’s likely to only extend the gulf between them this season.

Nicky’s comments today about another 4f helping Jonbon out stood out to me amongst all the bluster.
 
Jonbon & Saint Roi to be JP’s dynamic duo in this race come March!

Put EF/CC & Jonbon/Ryanair in a nice few multiples after the Arkle last year. I would love it if Nicky stepped him up. Kevin Keegan style :triumphant:
 
Well at the moment Jonbon is going Tingle Creek.
Guess we have to see what happens after that and how the season for him unfolds.

Absolutely. Just providing food for thought is all. Over persisting with Shishkin over 2m must be fresh in his mind too in fairness.

Im on Jonbon for the QM, hoping he improves for another year and hoping EF not so much!! Haha.
At least that way we might get a real good clash to savour in the biggest 2m chase.
But if not, and Jonbon shows he needs further before the festival….. well another to take on the chin I guess.

I remember you were keen on him for last year's novice chases Kev but he didn't really deliver IMO. What makes you think he will fare any better this year or is it just blind love? :love_heart:
 
There was no mention of Saint Sam in Willies Stable Tour. Am aware he took a fall mid September at the last when leading in a two horse race. Has anyone seen or heard any news about Saint Sam ?

"only" 4.5L from Turners after a mistake whilst getting in to the race, then hung so can make a leap and assume the mistake ended his chance?
No other bits of his novice chase form give him a change really, but I think he can shorten from 66/1 :eagerness:

I'm joining you in backing Appreciate It, but not for love, that's for sure haha!

66/1 is a rare overpricing by the bookmakers, IMO.

As you note above, the target has been named, that's key for the bet.

I'm hoping Willie gives him a much lighter campaign this season as he ran 6 times over fences last season, so two run and off to the Ryanair would be ideal for me.

There are sooooo many horses shorter than him that shouldn't be as well.

A fair few horses have been beat in their novice chase race at the previous seasons festival and then go on to win the Ryanair as well, so I'm not bothered he got beat in the Turners.

Allaho declared for the Clonmel Oil Chase. Only 3 rivals. Janidil, French Dynamite & Grange Walk.

Whilst Allaho usually needs the run you'd still have to be disappointed if he couldn't put that field away, especially as he'll also be getting 5lbs off Janidil as well, who is his nearest rival on ratings.

Has to be winning that, yes. I always try to get him on board after his first run but will have to get him on board before.

I'd imagine he'll be given a very gentle re-introduction, I wouldn't want to be backing him at short prices in that...

He always badly needs his first run

He'll be as fat as a pig

No surprise at all if he loses

As long as he runs well il likely go in again if he gets beat and gets pushed out

If he wins with any kind of authority then just give him his 3rd Ryanair win, he's a stone better than the rest so even if he can only run to 170 these days not high 170s he'll whallop them

True that, the Ryanair has a very different look about it with Allaho lining up.
It's a race that has produced some excellent performances (both visually and rating wise) but too many races are won by half the straight for it be regarded as a proper G1 race, it;s a race that produces proper G1 performances but generally has little depth for me...

Can't see anything else that'll run to much over 165, so even if he's regressed 10lbs he will still win

Which is why i was happy to take 7s

His first run won't really tell us much as he'll improve 10lb for it at least

His second run will reveal where he is at

He wins they might go king george

But clonmel, Thurles, ryanair and punchestown seems most likely

Unless Jonbon takes him on. 166 currently, could improve also for a step up in trip.

Worth keeping an eye out for the NRNB offers, I know Betfred are usually first off the mark with this around Christmas so hopefully he bombs on reappearance and the market is available before he runs again.
I genuinely think I'd take 3/1 NRNB and probably try getting a fair bit on....

Definitely be one I'd use as a cornerstone for some doubles at 3/1 nrnb
