I think there's a bit of smokescreening going on Thorne. Some of his qualified horses I'd be sure go to other races. His MO with win and place horses for the Pertemps is remarkably similar each year, so by understanding the past you can fairly closely predict which ones will be targeted here I think.

Similarly his MO for the Coral Cup, the Pipe, and horses that don't go to the Festival at all is similar each season. It's not completely foolproof of course, but you'd be right barring the odd exception.
 
Sporting John in the Warwick qualifier still 20/1 for the final with sky (14 365)
 
Probably should know this but, do first 6 qualify from Warwick even though there's only 7 runners?
 
Should hopefully mean MrFred Rogers will be Pipe bound with Chemical, there’s a few more qualms to do,e but maybe Gordon is happy with the 5 or 6 he already has qualified for the race.

I just wonder if Mr Fred Rogers will finish up in the Coral Cup.

Gordon put excellent 5lbs claimer Shane Fitzgerald up on him last time. Fitzgerald also rode Chemical Energy lto.

It's entirely possible they could both target the Pipe with Jordan Gainford on one and Shane on the other.

But it does strike me that Gordon may have been giving Shane the leg up on two horses he'll be riding at Cheltenham.

Fred on 138 less a 5lb claim would be interesting if his jumping holds up.

If I'm right it begs the question: who will Jordan be riding in the Pipe - because his mount will surely be Gordon's number one dart.

It would be odd for Elliott to put a novice in this race as it isn't something he does. The more stamina laden new course would be up his alley as well.

Lets see if he turns up to the Musselburgh qualifier then it will either be the Martin Pipe or they have aimed him at the William Fry hurdle at the DRF
 
So do we think thats Mr Fred Rogers not coming here now then? Seems strange that they wont have got him qualified in this with how little are actually in the race

Not that easy to qualify "easy" in a race with so little runners, if you know what I mean.

Be an interesting watch.
Only Riggs interests me seriously for the Final, but I've just spent an hour on him and decided against it.
Might back him Saturday though.

Personally I would say no, although he may end up if a different qualifier. I think Gordon throws a few red herrings out there when he does this mass entry thing before Cheltenham.

You're right about the number of horses in the race though, makes it very easy to qualify for the Pertemps. Not sure that makes it interesting or put a line through!
 
Could the master plan all along be for Sire du Berlais to come back and win this under top weight for a third victory in the race?

Was just thinking about the horse this morning as he falls into the bracket of horses that don't always give their running over Christmas or get beaten in the depths of winter only to come good at Cheltenham, but with all Gordon's other qualified horses for this I didn't think this would be his first target. He does seem to love the place.

Last year was probably his year if he was going to win the stayers, but think he could still be good enough for this.
