2022 Supreme Novices Hurdle

From Saxon's Race Planning Thread,

Gavin Cromwell's interview on Racing TV.

"Could go back on the flat, he has got plenty of gears"

Question: no need to step up from 2 Miles?

"No, we will stay with that, he has plenty of gears, he wouldn't want bottomless ground in the winter, so he is one for the Spring Festivals and we will see where he takes us".

So, if we take Gavin Cromwell at face value, all Ballymore bets are off and it's all aboard the Supreme Choo Choo train??

Don't take those quotes literally.

The horse has to run again and the trainer have more thoughts about, trip, opposition, ground etc.

I would say Supreme sounds number one for now, but the Ballymore mustnt be tossed away, particularly if you have big odds with cashout with 365.

Sit in, on both races for now.

How long has Gavin Cromwell been training? Never had a Supreme runner as far as I can see? That's not to say he can't start now of course!

He probably had a Triumph winner until Espoir D'Allen got injured at the DRF Grade 1.

Then won the Champion Hurdle as a 5yo.

Something I forgot to post about My Mate Mozzie, just slipped my mind, as it doesn't always mean an awful lot but his P2P form has worked out well enough.

The 2nd, Gris Gris Top (8 lengths behind My Mate Mozzie) finished 2nd on his rules debut in a bumper for Michael Scudamore.

The 3rd, Western Flyer (who was disq. on the day, but was 14 lengths behind My Mate Mozzie) went and won his next P2P fairly comfortably.

The only faller in the race, Nickle Back (who was disputing the lead 2 out before falling) has run twice over hurdles, the first behind Cadzand (who had plenty of experience at the time of the run) of Dan Skelton, by just 1 1/4 lengths, before absolutely hosing up at Fontwell by 30 lengths, and is rated 136 after just them two hurdles runs.

One thing that hadn't passed me by either which would be of slight concern, was that My Mate Mozzie was sold out of Mag Mullins yard, which would seem rather strange that he wasn't snapped up by Willie if they thought he was going to be a bit good, so this had crossed my mind, possible it's just one he's missed though.

Neon wolf was also in the care of mags mullins at one point and they let him go. I agree its a slight negative but they have missed one in the past, and probably more that I dont know about

MY MATE MOZZIE
did what I hoped he'd do. He's a lovely horse and he loves a bit of nice ground. I don't know how he'd get on on winter heavy but he looks a nice festival horse. I wouldn't like to run him on heavy. We could go for the nice ground at Leopardstown and maybe on to the spring. He's a very straightforward horse and has been good since day one. The good ones are easy to train - Gavin Cromwell, trainer

Leopardstown is the Grade 1 over 2 Miles.

The 2M4F Grade 1 is at Naas in January

You'd think he'd take in a grade 3 or 2 first.
Big jump from maiden to a grade 1.

Yeah I'd definitely like to see him take a small jump up in grade first for a bit more experience.

Having just watched the race again, god he was impressive wasn't he? Foot perfect all the way round and when Sean pushed him into one he absolutely flew it.

The jumps are back! :bee:

Probably not that many to be fair.
Royal Bond & Moscow Flyer the obvious ones over 2 miles.

edit, royal bond a grade 1

I am Maximus from Hendo's stable tour:

'He obviously put up a smart performance when beating My Drogo in a bumper at Cheltenham last October and we were considering running him in the Aintree bumper, but he had a few niggly problems so we finished him for the season. He has schooled very well, and we just don't know how good he is. He could be one of the most exciting prospects we have had for a long time, and we hope he can live up to our expectations.'

The horse is either an absolute aeroplane or Hendo's losing the plot given it was only 18 months ago Shishkin won this for him...

Hendo turning into Aidan, throwing out the superlatives like confetti.

They may take one in, if the ground suits next month, if not aim for Christmas at Leopardstown and keep their fingers crossed on the ground.

Its been Soft or Heavy at the Christmas Grade 1 in 7 of the last 10 years. Good/Yielding or Yielding the other 3 years.

If he were mine, and he truly liked better ground, then I would get another run into him in the next four for five weeks, to get his experience up, just in case it became too soft in December (which is odds-on historically)

Haha if you just had the quote without the horses name I'd have guessed it was Hendo saying that :highly_amused:

He's full of it :highly_amused:

Haha

Vividly remember the CHurdle where they ran CP as a pacemaker

My mate Joe says "I cant let Charli Parcs go off at 100/1"

Me: "really? I can do it fairly easily tbh"

we love those sound bites this time of the year though even if they are covered in glitter!! I accept Henderson does love his horses but when he really builds them up there does tend to be some substance to his proclamations. I backed IAM early and haven’t backed him since May but he was a horse I was really excited to see on his seasonal debut, I do think he’s something special

I think Hendo is losing the plot but he’s brilliant at this sport even if he is becoming more erotogenetic with age!!

He’s ran two in the supreme a few times and it’s a statement race for him, to win the opening race and grab the headlines so it’s very possible he will run Jonbon and I Am Maximus in the opener if they progress as expected.

I'd love him to be right about IAM, he's my best winner currently, mostly down to his original price of 50/1, but I'll reserve full judgement until he is seen over a hurdle and take Nicky with a pinch of salt.

JP loves a Supreme runner or three . He won't mind Jonbon running in the opener at all even if Henderson has others for the race.

Yeah Nicky had both Chantry and Shiskin in this 2 years back so if good enough i expect Jonbon and IAM appear here.

Agreed, hopefully we’ll see him I Am Maximus soon and he’s as good as we all hope
