Cheltenham Gold Cup 2020

Just think the 6 year olds going on 7 steadily improve over the season. 5/4 cover bet 2 places for CDO is huge IMO.

On talent and form it is...

The Nicholls' first time out is putting me off.

Then again, he should have CDO ready to rock and roll.... you don't ferry over to Ireland for a prep race do you!

Nicholls just doesn’t have his horses as ready as other trainers do on November 2nd.

Delta is a cracking bet at 7/4 in my opinion with that in mind.

I’m also on him for the Gold Cup but even if I wasn’t, the single tomorrow is just asking to be backed at 7/4.

Even if CDO is tuned up, as a big Delta Work backer I would expect him to beat CDO.

Do applaud Nicholls though for sending him over

Struggle for Delta Work there, never fluent jumping at the pace it was run at. Won't get much chance to run at the gallop he likes in the GC either.

Poor from delta work. Plenty of time yet though.

Very poor jumping. R2R and CDO looked good.

Waiting to see if anyone over reacts to that performance by Delta Work...*
Can't take any positives but he's a horse who has needed a couple of runs each season. His chase debut had a few mistakes in he improved bundles for that. Didn't look anything like the same horse we saw at the backend of last season. Littered with mistakes and jumped far too low. Keith Donoghue is riding a wave right now and hasn't put a foot wrong in his recent rides but I also can't help but feel maybe at this level that might have also played a factor.

Could well just be found out at the top level but i'd give him the benefit of doubt until next time

*Edit. 20/1 biggest. Not enough to tempt me

JLT form looking strong after today.
DEfi du seuil should go for this race FFS.

absolutely.
then my 350-1 bet is definitely on

Delta Work didnt jump today and beat long way out , perhaps he needed the run , although Elliotts horses have been on fire just lately.

Somewhere in back of my head im sure Gordon mentioned Delta Work needs knowing in terms of making his mind up at a fence , he seemed to lose his confidence early doors today , although he travelled well in the main .

It would surprise me if Davy not jocked up next time , nothing against Keith D.

Don't think its a worry with Delta Work, i remember a piece last March by Tony keenan on how Delta w improves after first run after a break, he flagged it as a negative for last seasons rsa after he missed the Punch festival . can't remember the numbers but timeform & racing post ratings seemed to confirm it more so in him than what you'd generally expect.

I wouldnt be throwing the slip in the bin, but theres no positives there.
Onto the next race to see if he can redeem himself. I'd rather see him have a confidence booster low key, if at all possible.

Watched the race this morning, couldn’t take much from that at all from Delta Work seemed to travel well enough but jumping was poor. Not giving up though and hope come March and a couple of positive runs he’ll be right in the mix.

Delta Work just didn't look the same horse yesterday. He's often thrown in a mistake or two but he didn't look happy at any point really.
He's not the biggest and hasn't got loads of scope over a fence. Something Elliott has mentioned a few times. Could be a hinderance at this level where as he got away with it in his novice season?

I agree that a low key confidence booster would be ideal. Despite the odds it wasn't the easiest of seasonal debuts. The problem is it'll be hard to find such a race (that I can see) before/around Christmas now in the Irish calendar. Elliott took Don Cossack to the Kinloch Brae after his King George fall to do the same which could be an option in mid January but there's not much a hiding place for him this season especially so in Ireland. He's also a horse who benefits from plenty of runs so i'd be wary of them not getting 3-4 runs into him before the Gold Cup. Very tough one though as a similar experience at say Leopardstown over Christmas could be hard to recover from

Do you think Vindication can improve enough to get competitive in this race this year or is the King George more realistic? I thought that was a very good performance yesterday even though he was receiving weight. A few horses standardly disappointed especially On The Blind Side and Mister Malarky.

I really like Vinndication and I'm on at 66s but he does need to prove he can perform as well going left handed. It was another boost to the JLT form and right now thats looking much stronger form than the RSA to me.

Always been a fan of Vinndication but i've got a question mark over him for the Gold Cup. I think he'll stay the trip. But I think he may be one who needs to be right up with the pace and help dictate the race to be seen at best effect. If he is out of his comfort zone his jumping suffers. And I think you have to be very good to do that in a Gold Cup. I think his best jumping performances have been at Ascot as well - I think the track suits him well. The Ascot Chase in February could be another good race for him but then you have another Ascot specialist in Cyrname to consider!

I think you have to be looking at the King George now though with him and he's got every right to go for that

Nice round of jumping by LIT

Not worthy of being cut to 8/1 though
