It was literally just a domestic garden hose reel on its own in the middle of the track :cocksure:

Always some guesswork involved.
There has to be, because not every horse has ran in every set of conditions possible.

My comment was about Goshen, and his ability to run on better ground. Not about comments relating to the forecast

Just to go back to my point, not many horses can go to places like Sandown in a bog and win, not many can go to Wincanton in the bog and win. For him to come out and win the CH over decent ground would.... make him a very very special horse. So the question is, is he a special horse or he is a track/ground specialist

I say this only because there has seemed to be an assumption that 10-14 days of good weather through early March means we are looking at a Good soft festival even though the Festival doesn’t start until March 16th this year. No doubt this extended dry spell will be drying the ground out nicely and although I personally pay little attention to forecasts beyond 5 days, I do see Accuweather is projecting rain every day for Cheltenham from Thursday 11th through Wednesday 17th (Champion Chase day). Whether it materialises who knows but just flagging to those who seem to be very confident it will be good to soft and are backing horses accordingly, personally think it’s a bit early

Been a lovely sunny day today in the glorious North where we don't care about England egg chasing results. Colder than the excel tab for my antepost multis tonight though.

Metcheck paints a very different picture which confirms forecasts beyond a few days can’t be relied upon.
The difference in March compared to mid Winter is the air temperature usually being much higher so ground can dry quicker if there is rainfall, last year I think we started on heavy and ended up with good to soft, but I think we’re still some way off being able to make accurate predictions...
 
The British weather reporting is generally useless!! The number of times I’ve planned work outside to find out that the sun on display on the BBC weather forecast for that hour is no where to be seen whilst standing in the pissing rain trying to pack my kit up is now a regular occurrence. I don’t understand how they can get it so wrong so often and then not bother to update what they are predicting on their website!!!

Unfortunately it will change by the day and worse still there is nothing we can do about it. I do genuinely hope there are more drys day than wet and please please let the sun be shining for the Champion Hurdle because it reminds me of Hurricane Fly and his best races at Cheltenham.
 
Overcast today, but no rain at all. Supposed to get nicer later.
 
Overcast yesterday all morning then lovely in the afternoon. Exact same today. Sat by the racecourse in the sun and I’m warm, strong breeze. At least the 8th/9th day of no rain. If anywhere can make you forget about all this recent shit it’s this place

It's perfect weather. Good to soft ground at the moment, but it's drying all the time. Few days of rain in the long term forecast, but all this dry weather is fantastic, undoing all the wet weather impact and should leave the ground good to soft come day one. The different walking round the place now compared to 2 weeks ago is chalk and cheese. I can't even speak on my hands free the wind is that noisy, and the wind is the key to drying out the ground.

And the Spring like temperatures will have helped massively with grass growth.
They lost the New Years Day and Trials meetings so reduced group repair needed anyway, but the ground this year really should be as good as it's ever been...
