Weather Watch 2021

I walk around the course every day and occasionally speak (shout over to haha) to the ground staff who will be more frequent the closer we get, so will try and update daily. The difference yesterday compared to a week ago was apples and oranges, so 14 days of little rain could see good to soft a realistic possibility, although Simon will get his hose out :stung:

By mid-March and the latter period of the month, a more mobile pattern may begin to develop with an increasing likelihood of Atlantic weather systems moving across the UK, bringing wetter conditions. The most unsettled conditions will likely be seen further north with the driest conditions further south. Strong winds may also develop at times, particularly in the northwest, with winds likely lighter overall in the southeast. Temperatures will probably be near average overall.


The above taken from the UK met office site; sounds like a dry spell leading up the the festival but we could see some rain in the days beforehand. Which I wouldn’t mind to be fair, as an antepost punter I don’t think you want extremes in ground either way. That said it’s been a bad winter, with very little ground any better than soft, so I wouldn’t really mind if we had it on the softer side.

Lucky you Charlie.

Well remember the days when you could walk the track on race days - fantastic experience.

I once took my spaniel with me and she had a lovely time splashing around in the water at the water jump.

For what it's worth, the BBC forecast for Cheltenham is not a drop of rain between now and Wednesday March 10 which is as far as they are looking ahead.

I live about 20 miles away and there's been so much rain this winter it's got into the ground really deep.

Even if it is largely dry between now and the Festival do you think they'll need to water Charlie - or could it still be soft enough for that not to be necessary?

The ground's still saturated here, boggy in places it isn't normally at this time of year.

However, I do like a good photo of someone on the course :applause::encouragement::love_heart:

Especially like it when Punterplonker put his up last year :highly_amused:

So Charlie, I expect to see one of you very soon, and all the other lucky locals.

There is always something over the last few years to throw doubt around festival, hopefully this year everything goes smoothly and we get decent spring ground.
 
Reasonably warm, wet weather should have been a good starter and the cancellation of the January meeting would be a plus.

They lost both Jan meetings I think so ground will be about as fresh as it ever has and this warm spell means fresh grass...

I've taken the 100/1 for a biblical rainstorm of frogs, gone in at the same price on a plague of locusts on any of the 4 days too. Absolutely no chance this will turn out to be relatively normal.
