Supreme Novices 2018

Impossible to assess Getabird at this stage for me having never run over hurdles at the minimum trip. A one length beating of Hardline (albeit it giving him a few pounds) on the level doesn't look great when you consider Mengli Khan beat that horse 20 lengths in the royal bond, but can't really glean a great deal from that. I'd be surprised if Getabird proves good enough to win anything at the festival, but that's based on little more than a hunch

Another exciting novice for the Mullins-Ricci team is Sharjah who fell at the last in the Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle over Christmas when seemingly set to land the Grade One prize.

“He’s in good form,” Chambers added. “It was unfortunate what happened. Patrick (Mullins) is adamant he jumped the shadow and he felt he had the race won going to the last. He’ll go to the Deloitte Novice Hurdle on day two of the Dublin Racing Festival.”

Getabird.

: “He’ll do his last piece of work on Thursday. He’s back at Punchestown where he won his maiden and we’re not concerned by the drop in trip. His bumper wins were over two miles and we think the quicker gallop will help his education.

“We’re more worried by the opposition than the trip. He’s been in tip-top form since the last day and the setback he had last year could be a blessing in disguise.

“He’s by Getaway and from a limited pool they are showing a fair bit of speed which is encouraging. He’ll be entered in all three novices at Cheltenham, as well as the Martin Pipe, and we’re encouraged Willie is running him in the Sky Bet Moscow Flyer, a race we won with Douvan and Vautour.”

Interesting to mention the Martin Pipe.

More hopeful that expecting regarding Getabird at 2m. I think he'd have to blow MK away to be in the Supreme.

Guesswork and reading between the lines - Sharjah Supreme, Next Destination Ballymore and Getabird AB would be my guesses.

Agree that's most likely. Wouldn't rule out the following if Samcro appears fairly unbeatable following next run:

Sharjah and Next Destination Supreme, Duc Des Genievres and Draconien Ballymore, Getabird AB

I can't see duc de genievres in the ballymore. Iv already pencilled in the owners real steel for that. Depends who they think is better . And you could make a case for it.

I'd say the result of the race will determine the target!

But the AB seems the least favoured going by the exchange prices and market volumes.

If he beats mengli khan well guessing he runs. hes the supreme fav. No doubts about that

Yeah that'll be a shake up for sure. If that did happen, so Getabird becomes a worthy Supreme fav... then Sharjah wins the Deloitte, I wonder if they'd aim both at the Supreme.

Sharjah showed how well he settles in that slowly run race time before Last. No reason what so ever why he couldn't go ballymore. They will know themselves at home who's the better of the 2 at the moment. They just have to show it on the track. A win over mengli is arguably better form than sharjah last time out.

Assuming Sharjah and Getabird are split between the Supreme and Ballymore, which currently looks very likely to me... There still seems to be a big hole in the AB for the Mullins camp.

ND still a decent possibility (I hope!)

I hope Mengli hacks up then I don't need to concern myself with who the best Mullins supreme horse is :highly_amused:

Cant see ND going AB CCM.More likely to go Supreme than AB.

I think after Mullins lost Annamix he knows he doesn't have a Supreme horse so hes trying to fill a gap.On his stable tour he states he sees Getabird as a bit of a stayer. So now chucks it at a 2 mile race.Soz just my take on it but im not Mullins.

Somer , you probably right though Sharjah i think surprised Willie.

:highly_amused:. I echo this!

Although a convincing win by Getabird 'should' mean it will be the Mullins supreme horse.

Paul Kealy put Sharjah up today in the Weekender, a maximum bet

Very little to dislike about Sharjah. His French flat form is seriously good so my main worry about him was whether he would be able to quicken off a strong pace. He was still cantering when coming down at the last and if we could only know he would have quickened away then he would be favourite now I guess. Only negative if he wins for me is that he was one of my first bets in the race, and to think of the points I’ve wasted since :disgust:

Have we given up hope on Real Steel here?
Held by Sharjah and Daly Tiger got beaten over Christmas in a bumper?
On jockey bookings they thought more of Real Steel than Sharjah going in to the PP Future Novices?

Needs to go up in trip.
