Supreme Novices 2018

Really surprised at this. Thought it would make sense for Sharjah to be aimed at this race of the RR horses.

All quotes from Mullins and the horses debut suggest 'staying hurdler'...

That was a good performance. He jumped like a chaser rather than a hurdler, and to do that on that ground takes a fair bit of ability. I thought at the third last that he'd blown up and then he came back on the bridle again. I think I saw today what we saw as a bumper horse. Hopefully he stays right now for the season, and he'll be a nice staying novice hurdler. He'll come on hugely from that. W P Mullins

I wonder if anyone will come out and say "you need a stayer to win the Supreme".

I'd be happy enough to see ND in this race. Wouldn't roll on to any multiples for me but I think if Next Destination is Mullins best novice, he'll only win one of the novice hurdles at best (excluding the mares one)

Is there quotes to say hes going to the race? or just an entry at this stage. We all know what Willie is like with his entries.

I assumed it was more than just the entry from reading that post...

Was an article in 'the times' newspaper. Said Getabird goes for the moscow flyer, Carter Mckay will probably join him.

Moreover, he supplied the 25-1 third, Duc Des Genievres, who ran a most eye-catching race. “He’s improving all the time,” the champion trainer said of the winner. “It was a very slow-run race and tactically it was a lot different than we thought it would be.

“His jumping held up under pressure over the last two and he was in front far enough to withstand the late challenge of the second horse. We were very pleased with him.

“It’s a Grade One and when they starting racing from the third-last it’s very testing. I’d imagine we’ll find a race at the Dublin Racing Festival next month. I’d be thinking the Ballymore, while Getabird will probably run in the [Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown next Saturday]. Carter Mckay probably will too if he’s alright — he had a minor setback which ruled him out of Naas.”

Maybe just a case of the horse being ready to run and this is a valuable prize in its own right? It would certainly come too soon for Sharjah?

I suppose it easy to think Cheltenham is the be all and end all sometimes when there are plenty of other races to think about.

I'll take 16/1 NRNB Getabitd for the Supreme then. Mikael D'Haguenet ended up Ballymore, Gagewell Flyer in the Albert Bartlett, but Simenon, Vautour, Douvan, Min, Crack Mome in the last few years have all gone Supreme.

Surely they will split Getbaird and Sharjah up?

Likely... less likely than previous seasons perhaps. Sharjah could go up though in trip? Sharjah a much better winner in the race for me but Getabird wouldn't be double figures if declared IMO.

Purely a bet to help me ensure a profit in the race rather than my idea of the winner CCM

My guess would be that Sharjah is definitely Supreme bound and will be joined by either Next Destination or Getabird (dependent on who looks the better chance in the Deloitte/Moscow Flyer). I’d say he’ll end up with his best novice this year in the Supreme assuming Samcro impresses again next time out. Of course either ND or Getabird could also take in the Albert Bartlett

Wasn't questioning what you had done mate, makes perfect sense at that price NRNB... just thinking aloud really with regard to Festival plans.

Willie has me more confused than ever this year!

Would RR want to run both Getabird and Sharjah against each other though? I'd doubt it.

Yeah I think Annamix was quite a clear 'best' at home and since then, things aren't following a set pattern. To be honest, this year more than ever, the trips he runs them at are probably less important than ever during the season. Maybe he is just running them whenever they are right and will make a decision incredibly late on. That is probably what happens anyway and we all spend too long second guessing it :highly_amused:

I think you are absolutely right.
