Supreme Novices 2017

From Pipes Blog

Social media is a wonderful way of keeping racing enthusiasts connected but it can sometimes lead to Chinese Whispers that are wholly inaccurate. Consequently I would like to report that Moon Racer (pictured right) is still very much on course for the Cheltenham Festival. We may get a little run into him somewhere although at this stage he is likely to go straight to Cheltenham next month. The main objective remains the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

Talking horse mayo??? 1st & 2nd in grade 1. Can't think off anyone else to have contested those Grades (except moonracer)in the supreme betting.

Snippet on Charli Parks from Nickys Blog this week:

How does Charli Parcs compare to last season’s Supreme horses Buveur D’Air and Altior?

I think Charli is a very high-class horse and I would be pushed to say he is as good as Altior because HE is as good as it gets but I’d certainly say (at their novice stage) Charli definitely as good as Buveur D’air, yes.

I was on Twitter yesterday and almost every other person was posting questions to NJH about the well-being of Jenkins. He hasn't answered any of those questions in his blog so I'd assume he's another NR I can add to my list.

:highly_amused: the doctor has put me in my box (for now)

Would he need a run before turning up? I think everything I fancied pre-Christmas will be a non-runner :highly_amused:

RUBY on deloitte pick

I had only the six to choose from in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle, and went with Saturnas. There have been a few small changes to the programme, and that’s what has left us with so many runners here. Some of them would have been running in winners’ races, but those races seem to have gone out of the programme.

I think Bacardys and Bravissimo probably want further to be at their best, while Chateau Conti and Bunk Off Early were impressive in their respective maidens, but both have had just one run over hurdles.

Riven Light didn’t jump great at Christmas, when behind Saturnas, but his schooling has improved since. He will have to translate that to the track, because he’ll have to jump a helluva lot better to be competitive here.

Saturnas is the Grade 1 winner, and that’s a lot of the reason I went for him. He won that race well at Christmas, over two miles, and I think the step up two-two will suit him. I’ve gone for form over potential. Potentially, who knows what Bunk Off Early, Chateau Conti, Bravissimo or Bacardys could be?

The form of Saturnas’ race at Christmas was strong, and the time was quick. Maybe I’ve played it safe, siding with the form horse over the potentials, but you have to have some rationale behind your decisions.

Been reading through this forum the last few weeks but this is my first time posting. Always good to read other people's opinions and views especially ones that are very different to my own. Now skybet have gone nrnb thought I'd post my first bets of Cheltenham 2017 all 1pt ew
Riven light 16-1
Avenir Dune Vie 25-1
Ballyandy 25-1
High Bridge 33-1
I know a couple may not turn up but I am pretty keen on high Bridge and Avenir dune vie. With most bumper runners ending up being stayers these 2 stood out as travelling into the race then being out stayed. Both have won fto over hurdles and imo represent good value.

Today's been a good day for me regarding the supreme with high Bridge and Ballyandy both winning well and confirmed for this race. Think I need a miracle regarding Riven light tomorrow though.

Certainly is. Well done. :encouragement:
High Bridge hasn't even been on my radar.
Ballyandy I took 25/1 NRNB a while ago for similar reasons that CK put up (obvoiously 33/1 I'd have preferred haha)
Riven Light passed over by Ruby this time so would need to improve.

High Bridge quotes

Winning trainer Ben Pauling said: "He quickened very nicely off terrible ground, but he has got plenty toe as he is out of a Guineas winner (Ameerat).

"I think a true run two miles might suit him very well. You only change plans for a reason and I don't see any need to do so.

"I think it would be quite brave to go into the unknown over two and a half. I think the Supreme is a bit more open as the Neptune looks quite hot."

A good form boost there for Moonracer with both the first 2 being out away by MR earlier in the season.

Have to say I didn't see that coming from Ballyandy today. I always thought of the horse as a Neptune horse but can see the Supreme suiting him with a similar run as today.

Onto the Deloitte tomorrow...

so much for trainers being creatures of habit ..expected him to go the new one route

Maybe he will? Maybe I will give him a call and tell him that I posted the Moon Racer (SUP) / Ballyandy (NEP) bet up at 288/1 many months ago after that run at PERTH. Maybe he'll feel sorry for me? Maybe he'll get offended by me calling him a wussy at being scared of Tizzard and Finian's Oscar? Little wussy! Maybe? Just maybe.

Maybe I need his phone number first?
