Ryanair Chase 2018

Did you have many winners scooby ? , only wondered because i'm not so brave . although have supplemented a
few of my each way bets with a small win only this year.

I won't aftertime individual bets but in a short answer yes. I started off ew then have gradually gone win only last 2 years,

I think most people generally agree with that scooby.

I can't remember where it is on the forum now, might be a month or so back but we had a chat about it and I do back each way but only when there is no doubt in my mind about a target.... but for the same reason that you have for Melon in theory, so I can punt it on whatever I think will win the race as a form of "risk-free" bet (although obviously not risk free, as it might not place).. A better example would be Samcro 16s each way .... 6/4 the place :highly_amused:

You'd probably get matched on the exchanges for samcro at 6/4 a place lol.

I know some on here are not keen on Douvan for this race, especially at 10/1, but to me it makes more sense than sending Min here.

Having spent a lot of time last night looking through this race, market and race videos of both Douvan & Min, as well as comments/interviews (though couldn't find the ones I mostly wanted to read/watch) with regards to both horse.

My take on it. On more than one occasion both Mullins or Walsh have said Min is an out and out 2 miler, yet on occasions Walsh, whilst gushing about Douvan, has said we can put him in anywhere, we believe he's that good.

Watching the race replays of both horses Min is generally very keen to get on with it, putting doubts in my mind he'll stay the Ryanair trip, if he were to come up against another front runner like Un De Sceaux, whereas Douvan can settle anywhere and cruise through the race like he does best.

Whilst one defeat over 2m for Douvan shouldn't be the end of him running over that distance, I do think that connections have enough of an army to now step him up in trip, it has been spoken about before.

I can actually see Douvan going for the King George, like they did with Vautour, then either head here, again, like they did with Vautour or if things go well a tilt at the Gold Cup with possibly Djakadam and Yorkhill (under different ownership, but suspect Walsh wouldn't want both against each other) dropping back for this, but my own opinion is they will head here with Douvan and then go for Gold Cup glory the following year, though I do recall Mr Ricci saying they had learnt their lesson or something along them lines, after the sad fatality of Vautour and for that I wouldn't rule out the Gold Cup as an option.

It's just about 5 weeks since I was there and heard Willie say words to the effect of:
they're both good enough for the QM but you'd have thought that Douvan had more raw speed. Breeding suggests that they could both go further.

I was left in little doubt that if they both stayed sound, Douvan would end up in the QM and Min the Ryanair. However, that was 5 weeks ago and that is an eternity in Mullins time. I'm hoping to get there next week and it will be interesting to see if anything has changed in the interim.

I must admit, I haven't piled in on Douvan, for this race, more so Min for the QMCC, but may hold off on anymore until you get back from the yard, if you're able to provide an update when you return? If not, I'll probably go out on a limb and back my thoughts/opinions of them at this stage, based on what I have read/seen previously by connections.

There was no embargo on information the last time so hopefully not this time either. The only censorship I ever do is on Supreme horses out of respect for the other owners or when I'm specifically told that it's confidential information.

Thanks Archie.

Gotta say information and little tidbits like this are fantastic and one of the main reasons I'm glad I found this forum. Thanks archie

Taken the plunge on Disko for this Race after yesterdays win at Down Royal. , well a small each way! .

These are Trainers comments from yesterday:
Disko had a tough task today giving away weight to everything, and he did get a bit tired but he was entitled to. Ballyoisin was well in at the weights on his rating and he's a fair horse and we're thrilled. The John Durkan Chase might be considered but I think 3m is his trip - Noel Meade, trainer

He got a huge rating from the Racing Post Ratings assessor 167!

I expect Disko to go for the Gold Cup, but if he was going here I'd be interested.

One I am interested in but haven't backed as I am not sure of the target is Waiting Paitently. Jumps beautifully, now 4 from 4 after today over fences. Does anyone know comments regarding targets this season for the horse?

I'd imagine he'll go to Cheltenham next for the Bet Victor Gold Cup. The race at Carlisle has been a good prep in the past for horses targeting the BV GC.

There are quite a few horses that are interesting for this race, what id be more confident about is Un de seux won't win.. if you re watch last years race.. beating Aso and other "good" horses the distance he did isn't outstanding form.. to be honest if the race was another 100 yards I think sub lieutenant would Have caught him.. not knocking him as such but don't fancy him and certainly not at the prices 4 months out..

That's interesting. How many 'good' horses are you expecting to turn up?

The good horses normally run in the good races ... UDS might be defending is crown against similar opposition ?

.... according the the betting, horses like Disko, Fox Norton, Yorkhill, Djakadam, Min, Douvan, Might Bite are the 'good' ones...... to me, it looks like the first "guarenteed barring injury" runner is Top Notch at 16/1... the consideration would be Mullins could have 'a good one in the race....but at 13/2 on UDS as the reigning champion in the race, I wouldn't want to bet against him turning up and having to beat the likes of Top Notch to win this again?

Firstly I have a sneaky feeling fox Norton may turn up in the Ryanair and if he did.. right now.. match bet..I'd side with him.. also if the race was re-run I could see young mullins going a stride or 2 earlier and catching UDS on the line.. also think the ground that day was probably perfect for UDS in the sense of he isn't best seen on genuine good ground yet I doubt he'd of gotten up the hill on soft/heavy ground.. add into that the list of unexposed chasers like disko, waiting patiently, politilogue and yeah top notch I don't think it's a bet I'd like to have.. obviously I'm not knocking the horse as he's won an arkle and a Ryanair but I'll try look elsewhere for a bit of value

Charbel would interest me in this.

But can't find any quotes saying they will step him up in trip as of yet. 20-1 as it stands...

Just wondering what people think about the pricing by Paddy Power & Betfair (obviously owned by the same company), with regards to this race.

I have seen a few times on this forum that there is belief Paddy Power have links to the Mullins yard, I assume due to them being a Irish company, however their pricing up of this race alongside Betfair suggests they are unsure about any runner for this race from that particular yard.

They are either clear price leaders or at minimum joint best prices on Un De Sceaux, Yorkhill, Douvan, Min, Djakadam, Great Field & VVM for this race, yet find themselves a long way short of the prices of Top Notch & Road To Respect, 2 horses that are with different yards entirely.

Are we to assume that the muddied waters for us are just as muddy for them at this stage or that they potentially don't want to give anything away should they know which horses are being aimed where? Or something else?

Nice form boost with Politologue winning earlier. Only quote I can find is he will miss the BetVictor and the key to him is soft ground...

Waiting Patiently does seem to have enough pace for 2miles and id be very interested if he was to run over that distance as a betting proposition.
