RSA Chase 2020

I didnt say that no horse had ever won a grade 2 chase 1st time up over fences, I just asked if anybody knew of one.

He is clearly on a different planet you only need to look at his build to see that. Absolute freak of a horse with the ability to match.

Maybe I find it a little bit tedious that people just go on and on about Chump, a nutjob who isnt a natural over fences.

Even the champ fans aren't in Timmy Mallett's class.

He's not on a different planet, it's a crap saying anyway :devilish:

Appreciate you might find it tedious about Champ, but that was numerous people saying it not one person banging the same drum, even if I do agree to a degree about the drum you are banging.

Are you more keen or less so about Champ’s RSA credentials after his win at Newbury?

Noel Fehily, former jockey More keen. He was unlucky to get bumped by a loose horse early on and things didn’t really go his way through the race afterwards, so I was impressed with the way he battled back to beat another proper Grade 1 horse in Black Op. He’s a hell of a good horse.

Micky Hammond, trainer I’d be more keen on him. He’ll have learned plenty from the outing. He quite clearly wants further but has the class to win over two and a half miles and I thought it was a very encouraging performance. He quickened well and ran right through the line. He showed good battling qualities and the Newbury fences take some jumping.

Patrick Mullins, jockey More. We now know he stays well, jumps well and that he has the ability to sidestep any fallers in front of him! He’s a very, very good horse.

Amy Murphy, trainer I was impressed with Champ’s end performance over what definitely looked a sharp enough trip for him. I think he was very honest to go the right side of the rail in a last minute switch. So many horses may not have reacted as quickly as he did. He’s a lovely, genuine horse with a big future, and I wouldn’t be against him in the RSA.

Kevin O'Malley, Tote spokesman The quality of his form is beginning to stack up. It was a good running of a race typically won by very good horses. Champ didn’t make it easy for himself in the jumping department, but he clearly possesses an impressive engine and will to win. Building towards an RSA tilt seems logical and he is an exciting project.

Champagne Mystery should easily despatch Dashel Dreaver today at Haydock which will not only weaken the form of champ but also provide Nicky with a more realistic RSA contender in Champagne Mystery. No prices available on him for RSA yet but should announce himself a player as of today.

Question for the Champ fans...

Are you convinced he'll stay 3m at Cheltenham well?

Seemed to sprint away yesterday rather than outstay them, and looking back at the Sefton at Aintree, they crawled and were all on the bridle at top of the home straight - wouldn't have been a true 3m test.

The horse will stay 3m no problem. His finishing turn of foot doesnt work uphill however the same as it does on a flat track.

At Cheltenham he will be losing lengths at every fence and his turbo wont kick in up the hill.

Should go for the stayers hurdle as he has no answer to Dazzling Danny Whizbang.

Champagne Mystery may even take Champs position as Hendos best RSA chance though I think Champagme Mystery would want it testing in March.

I would definitely worry about Champs jumping as he is not a polished jumper, losing distance and energy at each fence. I struggle to see him winning if they go a good gallop. Coupled with that is he has not been in a quickly run race yet which may put his jumping under more stress.

I’m still strong Minella Indo for this. His run in the Bartlett was one of the most taking performances at last years festival given how hard he pulled for much of the race. His jumping looked tidy on his return and was beaten for speed by Laurina, as would be expected, in a race that reflected well on the clock.

Can’t quite see how ET is so strong on Danny Whizbang. It was a nice win but couldn’t get overly excited about him yet.

The only worry I have with Dazzling Danny Whizbang is that they may try and win the gold cup with him this season. If he does come to the RSA he is simply untouchable. There will be few who disagree after the Kauto Star Novice Chase.

Sometimes i wonder is this Mr.Segal's Fat Jockey account......:very_drunk::devilish:

Hard to say, Champagne Classic was disappointing and the 4 fences missed out didnt help his tactics.
Safe to say Champ is probably better than Champagne Mystery though Dashel Dreaver has also probably improved for his seasonal debut against Champ.

Its ultimately all irrelevant as Champ isnt a natural over fences and these types dont win RSAs.

No horse will trouble Danny Whizbang here.

The worst thing about Champ, is when I go to find him in my spreadsheet, I end up having to fire through "Champion Hurdle, Champion Bumper, Champion Chase" etc to find him

Realise a lot on here are huge Champ fans , personally I’m not convinced .

Lacks fluency in jumping ( to me not a natural jumper) and Bazza ( Sat Nav required)

Recognise has fantastic engine but there are “buts “ for me
Minella v fluent in the jumping dept and Elliot eulogising over BOD, Billy Whizz in the wings

Looking forward

Massive champ fan, think he didn’t jump as well as he did on debut but his engine won him the race, everything that could have gone wrong did. He beat a good horse in black op going away in the end. He could have threw in the towel but had plenty left in the tank. They ran him over the wrong trip in the ballymore I think because they knew how damaging the Albert Bartlett can be to horses. They obviously know they have a proper tool on their hands. When he goes up to 3 miles I think we’ll see the best of him. RSA winner for me.

Has to improve his jumping to win this for me
Covered at 10/1

Have included in ew multi’s as I see him placed as opposed to the winner.

As I say “ looking forward”

Poor run from CM and Drasher won very easily, not sure where he goes now ET, one of the novice handicaps maybe?

I wouldnt have a clue where he goes. Not a horse of interest to me. Fancied him to turn over Dashel yesterday thats about it. He didnt. Not on my radar.
