Hi all Fatjockey members

I'm Maxfield, I use to be on the old sun racing forum a long time ago and haven't been active on forums for years, although I have been following the fatjockey forum for some time and have been meaning to join. I will say I recognise a few names from past and they are still doing a great job as all on this forum are.

I’ve been betting for over 15 years and have tried and studied every form of betting from every kind of sport with Horse Racing always being my main go to and my biggest love.

I have spent hours each day studding race after race, I have won comps and have had people following me privately over the years, but with being a parent and having a busy life I don’t have the time nowadays, so I have stuck to the most profitable way of betting and that is ante post betting on Cheltenham and that’s pretty much all I do now as there is no sport in the world that gives you the odds that Cheltenham offer and there is no better way to enjoy making good money each year.

It took me years to realize that I can put much less work throughout the year and just concentrate on four days of racing in which you can follow the best form of any pattern when it comes to betting i.e. same trainers/owners and targeted races. People will argue you’re mad to make bets so early and I say your mad not too. Let’s face it, it’s not a big a gamble than you think as the horses are kept in the field for a big part of the year and the horses which you are backing are treated and looked after so well, plus the top graded horses don’t race as much these days, so the gamble isn’t as big as you think. I always look at Cheltenham as an investigate, my company owner will tell how he invests 5K to make a 1k profit in a year, I can invest ?50 e/w to make a ?1,200 profit of a 20/1 bet. What’s the biggest risk!

Anyway, a big hello to everyone and looking forward to Cheltenham 2022 :)

Welcome Maxfield. I'm looking forward to hearing about your antepost bets and strategies.

Using the Festival antepost, rather than being a daily or weekend punter, is the same comparison as taking an annual dividend instead of being on a zero hours contract. :encouragement:

Difference being the former is naturally more likely as it should be at 1/5, Risk vs Reward a truly endless topic. Be interesting to hear from yourself going forward after a decent intro with some punting pedigree attached as you've touched on.

Hi Outlaw

I know what you mean in the difference between the stock market, and maybe not worded the best as a comparison, but I suppose my point was meant to say I certainly can’t afford a 5K risk (albeit not has high a risk) but I can certainly afford the money I bet to try and make the same.

Hi everyone,

I've enjoyed being a lurker for about 18 months and now I've taken the plunge to join in proper.

I vaguely recollect some rare trips to the races as a child with an air of mystery but the once a year adrenaline filled excitement of small/no stakes family bets on the Grand National was the height of my exposure through my youth. I had ?2 on Bobbyjo in '99 and followed that up with ?2 on Oath on Derby Day (must now avoid such blatant aftertiming!). I wasn't hooked yet but a new friendship with an older racing aficionado gave me a richer appreciation of horses & racing. I threw myself into the sport following both codes, studying, exalting and punting.

My interest has ebbed & flowed for over 20 years now . Punting wise I win, lose & learn (hopefully)! I have experienced a few large losses, they are outweighed by successes but I am mindful of keeping control (allowing a fancy to win without my money at 'bad' odds is not a strength)!

Favourites? Too many! I have a near religious belief in the strength of Sinndar's Derby. I would also subscribe to the uncontroversial view that Frankel is the supreme flat racing talent of our time. I saw the underwhelming end of Istabraq's career, in truth chasing eclipses hurdling for me... and jumps racing has my heart: from First Gold's long low fencing in the King George; Moscow Flyer v Well Chief & Azertyioup; destructive Denman; sublime Kauto Star; majestic Sprinter Sacre; indomitable Native River; all obvious I know - don't care and I'll end with Best Mate... may not be the greatest but I haven't seen a better fencer, the embodiment of an armchair ride...I swear you can see him clock the last two at Cheltenham in '04 before measuring them perfectly. Heartbroken to see him so cruelly stricken at Exeter the following season.

I look forward to joining the discussion.

Brilliant post. Are you Alastair Down in disguise?!:devilish:

It sounds like you got into racing around the same time as I did, in and around the late 90s.

I was at York when Frankel won the Juddmonte and it was awesome. Kauto's last Betfair Chase and Faugheen's Champion Hurdle win are two NH races that I can watch over and over again.

Welcome aboard :encouragement:

Hello all
Found this site by chance during lockdown and now find myself visiting a few times each day, so took the plunge to actually join.
Think the forum is really quite excellent and some members really do know their stuff, giving valuable advice and insight. Really would love to share my views and add my ten bobs worth into the mix.

I'm 45 and have loved racing since school, my passion developing from watching Granstand and the like on a Saturday afternoon with my Dad, and him constantly checking ceefax for the racing results.
Flat racing I enjoy but I much prefer the thrills and spills of Jump racing. To me Flat racing is much more of a business, the very best horses we see for far too little in time. Jumps we get to know the horses as they are around for so much longer growing attachments to your favourites.
My all time favourite is Kauto Star, he was a joy to watch and I was lucky enough to see him win both his Gold Cups. Sprinter Sacre was quite the animal too, his defeat of Cue Card at Aintree tackling 2m4f for the first time and seeing him off without coming of the bridle is my standout performance by a jump horse.

Welcome. Welcome all

Whenever I read 'Ceefax' I always feel bad about 'Teletext' ...

Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself, get stuck in. :encouragement:

Welcome on board Big Strand. I’m with you on Kauto Star. He was the perfect chaser in my eyes. He had a unique blend of stamina and speed. Classy enough to win all those King George’s, stout enough to win his Gold Cups, and fast enough to win Tingle Creek’s. What a horse.

Hi All

Having been a lurker on these pages for the past few festivals, I’ve decided to take the plunge and get involved this year.

always been a keen racing and festival fan but was only last year that FJ’s very own Penzance introduced me to the thrills and spills of ante post betting. The knowledge of you guys on here certainly made it a fruitful experience and has got me excited to join in with the debates and hopefully have a another rewarding festival

Thought it would only be polite to introduce myself before posting having been encouraged by a lifetime friend to join in!

I have been a contributor on several horse racing message boards over the years, going back to when I was 16 (I'm now 40!) and have always used the same moniker of 'Runragged'. I consider myself a semi-professional 'investor' and have profited from betting for several years though needless to say the majority of my betting accounts are restricted! I will bet on anything and everything if I can gain an edge, hence the restricted accounts. I concentrate on the better class of races on the flat and over jumps, class 3 and above and rarely bet in sprints on the flat. As a form student then I don't have much to do with 2yo races on the flat either.

Over the years I have leaned more and more towards the jumps and Cheltenham as the pinnacle of a season where you know every horse is trying. So much so that 1/2 of my betting profits this year came from that one week in March. This season I plan to focus even more on ante post markets, using a combination of what I see with my own eyes along with trends. I like to build a book of several horses and attempt to profit race by race, utilising my position to stake multiples to further enhance profits.

Hopefully I will be able to contribute to posts in some manner. One day I may even share my 'dodgy doubles' method which is accepted in shop and online with one betting company, though fear shooting the golden goose if too many people abuse it! Even though I know it works online I don't use it as I know the account would be closed immediately and the method stopped like what happened with another company. However, in shop it seems a lot less likely to get flagged up and i'm on good terms with the staff.

What else do you need to know? My first favourite horse was Mr Frisk who would always run his race and was my first National winner. My most memorable racing experience was being at Cheltenham the day Denman won his Gold Cup. An incredible race and atmosphere, watching a horse with his engine break the hearts of all his competitors was a sight to behold and will always live with me.

I look forward to getting stuck into some of these ante post threads!

Hi all, I am a huge fan of the jumps season, so much so that my interest in the flat, or horse racing in general, takes a huge nosedive post Ascot and begins building back up once the jumps are in sight. The past couple of weeks I have been getting back into things in hopes of not being rusty or playing catch up when the good stuff starts. whilst re-immersing myself I found this forum site. There appears to be many knowledgeable people on here and it has only made me more excited for the season to come. I hope to get involved in the discussions and thought it best to say hi first.

Welcome to the site Cunningham. Call me old fashioned, but I always like it when someone introduces themselves before piling in. :encouragement:

This is a great time of the year with some flat races/meetings in next few weeks (Cesarewitch, Arc and Champions Day are 3 of my favs), combined with some of the familiar NH horses getting their campaigns underway.

Look forward to reading you views:very_drunk:

Another long time lurker. In awe at the level of expertise on here, so much so you don't want to block threads with inane tittle tattle.

Recently retired so have plenty of time to read the news. Will try and post anything relevant on news if I can post quickly, if that's any help.

Don't think I have ever come across a racing forum where there is such camaraderie and a willingness to help each other.

As obsessed as you all are with racing, but for me it's both codes. A late entrant to AP betting though which is why this forum is such a help. I'm only interested in the festival for AP betting so thanks to all the regular posters for their insights.

Welcome on board Irish Rugby. No need for any thanks. As you've gathered we love it.

Opinion is just as important as expertise, and that's what keeps things going, so just join in and share your thoughts.

Evening All, no it's not old bill so carry on smoking that funny roll-up.
It's the start of October and that means NH starts with a gentle build up and I just popped in to wish everyone a successful season ahead.

For me it begins with Cheltenham 22nd 23rd Oct,

GLA

Good Evening All,

I'm new to the forum, I was directed here from a Youtube horse racing channel. I find myself obsessed with all things Cheltenham Festival and have been going for a few years now. Although I've been enjoying a bet for about 10 years, I've still got plenty to learn about horses although I did have a very profitable Cheltenham 2021.

I could talk Cheltenham Antepost until I'm blue in the face, and I'm currently scouting the markets and placing small wagers ahead of what will hopefully be another profitable campaign.

I look forward to talking horses with all of you
