Thanks to @knockando for picking September selections, we now move onto October and maybe more informed options as the season gets underway. Pleased that @RufusFlynn has volunteered to captain this months effort and @somer1 has already agreed the same for November.

So, let the discussion and suggestions begin.

Thanks @Eggs - looking forward to the discussion this month. Hopefully we're now starting to get little snippets from various sources along with the start of some interesting NH meetings - Cheltenham is back this month! 🥳 The Down Royal meeting where Elliot tends to unleash some of his big players is also at the end of the month - although (IMO of course) GE's race planning seems to have been slightly off in recent years and he doesn't quite have as many big hitters as previously.

I would like to ideally pin down four selections where we are as close as possible to having a confirmed target - but will see how the discussion unfolds.

At this stage I think there's surely still value around as well:

Arkle - after Kopeck & Lulamba everything else is double figures
BANC - everything bar Final Demand still double figures

Still plenty of discussion to be had around the Championship races too.

A reminder of the September selections:

BANC - Jimmy du Seuil
QMCC - Kalif du Berlais
Supreme - Mydaddypaddy
Gold Cup - Gaelic Warrior

Can't remember where I've heard/read it, but I'm sure there's been talk of Elliott starting his a little later this year. Could be wrong though.

Has anyone heard what the plan is for Cromwell's Only by Night? Always looked as though would get further in her 2m races and I think I remember the plan was to go for the Mare's Chase last season and they switched late. Could be a good bet at 9/1.

Ive also read/heard that somewhere too... also haven't saw many quotes of any who he will run there yet. Im also struggling to see who is going to be in the feature race on the Saturday, the big 3m chase, which is a shame, as im due to go to it again and usually a decent renewal, albeit usually a small field, im struggling to see who he has now, all his getting on abit?

Im sure we will get an idea on other races though, usually his Hurdlers and novice chasers. But not much success last year, in regards to trends, The Yellow Clay finishing 2nd in Turners probably the best trend. Not to bring it up again but with the mid distance Novice chase now a handicap, it sort of makes it difficult to trace that one, but if he has an arkle candidate he may well send it to the Friday race, or keep in tracker for the handicap.

But as you say, if hes starting back abit later its no good to us. But this is "his" meeting and selfishly i hope he does send a decent team and we get some good clues.

Have to say Elliott has went down the pecking order for me in terms of focusing on his for Cheltenham. He’s been off it a few years now imo. Obviously it’s not a bad thing to have his best novice hurdler, chaser, juvenile and bumper horse covered but he’s not delivered much on that front last 5 years has he? Selfishly talking from a win only point of view, I know a lot of folk bet each way so worth following as he places a lot of the time.

Agreed re Gordon - he hasn't really been able to translate the big money horses into big races winners - especially at Cheltenham.

I still wouldn't dismiss his in the handicaps even though his strike rate has reduced in those races too but at this stage it's difficult to pin any of those down from an antepost perspective and the changes in the conditions of the NHC & XC haven't helped on this front.

The only horses of his I'd really be interested in antepost is Wodhooh - and even then there is plenty of debate around what her ultimate target would be - IMO most likely the Mares.

It is interesting though if he is delaying his effort this year as in previous years I had a view that many of his had gone over the top by Cheltenham. Mullins tending to have a slow start to the season suited Elliott - a delayed start might mean he wins less prize money in Ireland but will it lead to improved performance at Cheltenham?

Cromwell seems to be punching above his own weight with the owners he has compared to Elliot. JP is the only big owner that he has whereas Elliot has Robcour, Gtown, Bective & JP. I know where id be sending my horse if i owned one.

….maybe OJA can inform a few suggestions.
Yep - mine has landed this morning so will do a detailed dive

Good news is that Doctor du Mesnil and Mydaddypaddy both in top 40. DDM name checked for turners and MDP for either race but as expected to be one of Skelton’s top novice hurdlers

Manlaga is mentioned for the Triumph as was discussed last month.

The other is The Reverend who gets a very positive mention for the supreme - so that’s my initial shout to throw in as an alternative to MDP last month’s Yankee - 25s

The Reverend is not widely quoted so far as I can see!

….i notice 22k visitors to last months Yankee thread.
Much as I’d like to think it’s something to do with me being captain 😂… it’s more a sign, speaking on behalf of forum - that we are all sick to death of the flat and eagerly waiting for the start of the NH season. I for one was refreshing to both see the selections AND for confirmation if anyone’s OJA had landed..

Now that it’s here - the excitement is building for sure. Let’s be having you!
