October ‘25 Yankee

Sortudo
Saw a couple mention him as a potential 2 miler, but being by Authorized you'd have to think he'll be a staying type eventually. They've also ridden him like he's plenty of stamina too.

I've got involved in him for the Bartlett as he is in my list of horses to follow in the diary section.
He was quite keen in his bumpers which led to him being prominently ridden in the majority of his races. He showed a nice cruising speed in his Fairyhouse win too.

I’ve backed him for the Supreme. A fast paced end to end 2m would suit him well I reckon. I couldn’t back him for the Turners personally. He doesn’t have the tools for what I want in that race at all.

He’d be effective racing from the front in 2m races and running the finish out of more speedy types or if he learns to settle better 3m would come into the equation for me too but 20/1 isn’t very inviting.

Lossiemouth (Mares Hurdle) surely has to go in one Yankee? Short price now but will go off long odds on in March. No harm in having a shorty in a Yankee either.

….Nicholls mentioning Champion Chase for Kalif de Berlais in his stable tour, bits of 16-1 and plenty of 14-1 available.

25s with B365 if that's anymore inviting.

Think it's probably fair enough to be honest. Despite everything I said about not being a race I like to get involved in antepost this far out. Not much else too exciting out there.

Gameofinches in the BANC another with a strangely similar profile that I don't hate. Also ran in the Champion Bumper for Willie and is seen as more a stayer. Talk of him going straight over fences, as Fact to File recently did before winning this. 33s is fair enough like given who he's with.

Gameofinches is very interesting. He took the same unorthodox path with both the great Florida Pearl (Willies best ever horse IMO) and Fact To File. Who's to say he can't make it a hat trick. Clearly he knows the type that can make the jump.

What about a sporting bet on the horse that beat him in a point to point who is 3 times the price - albeit he is now with Kim Bailey?

I’ve taken it alright, thanks for the heads up Benjy, if he drops the bit & settles over hurdles I can see him being very effective over 3m too, plenty of stamina in the book.

I’ve actually got 4 backed now for the Albert Bartlett. Probably need my head testing but just liked the profile of a few especially at bigger prices. I’ll try post them & some reasoning in the Novice Hurdle thread tonight.

For me Lossiemouth at 2/1 for the Mare Hurdle needs to be considered. If Anzadam wins the fighting fifth big if I know but I think that give Mullins two big darts at the CH and Lossie goes Mares with Kargese going CH also. I know they are different owners but I think RR and Willie will pick the easy race and the Donnelys looked happy to send Sir Gino and Salvator to the Triumph before SG was pukled out.

I don't think we have Majborough CC in any yet, I know people think he might go out in trip but at 8/1, I think he is great value. Willie has said he will start at 2m and see how he gets on. I think JP will be happy to throw more than one dart at the CC having not won it.

Sober Glory for the spud race anyone ??
25's currently, the form of his bumpers looks reasonable, yard have said they'll be starting off over 2m4f this season then stepping up as the season progresses, related to a fair few stayers, big old galloping unit could see him loving a dour test against all the other boats.

Another Triumph dart to throw in…

Howard OJA top 40… Narciso Has - 14s as an alternative to Manlaga

Strangely enough was a stablemate with Manlaga. Some notable quotes:

‘the Prix Wild Monarch, a conditions hurdle for unraced horses has produced State Man, Gaelic Warrior, Sir Gino and Salvator Mundi… Narciso Has won the 2025 edition.

‘NH has looked a strong stayer and recorded a winning time three seconds quicker than Manlaga over the same C&D’

As someone who takes times into consideration looking at these juveniles, worth noting that although 3secs overall quicker, I often find it more helpful to time from a certain part of a race as starts are often skewed a little. From the first hurdle down the back straight, Narciso Has was around 3L quicker than Manlaga to the line, but imo, Narciso was given a much harder ride and they were off level weights (Manlaga would receive 7lbs when they meet from now on)

Just something to bare in mind

I think there are a few that have talked about this one, I know RPRs aren't for everyone but Narcisco Has was given 96 for his debut run, Manlaga 109 and of course fillies get the allowance, that's not to say the gap won't be narrowed or even reversed but on bare ratings (albeit one performance each) right now there's a world of difference between the pair....

I think Majborough is a good shout. With fact to file (Ryanair) and Inothewayurthinkin (GC), the champion chase looks an obvious target for Maj this far out. Gives Mark Walsh a full book of rides in the big chases for JP. I still prefer Marine Nationale but could easily see Maj winning the G1 at Christmas and/or the DRF and going off much shorter.

All eyes on whether he starts off at Cork in the Hilly Way or the John Durkan

"We’ll start out over two miles anyway and go down for the Hilly Way."

So with over half the month now gone - thought it would be useful to list the main horses that have been discussed either here or on other threads:

BANC:
Derryhassen Paddy
Gameofinches
Final Demand
Taponthego

Triumph:
Manlaga
Narsisco Has

Stayers:
Ballyburn

Ryanair:
Impaire Et Passe

Gold Cup:
Lecky Watson
Gaelic Warrior

Mares Hurdle:
Lossiemouth
Air of Entitlement

Mares Novice:
Bambino Fever

Champion Hurdle:
State Man
William Munny

QMCC:
Kalif du Berlais
Majborough

Mares Chase:
Dinoblue

I have left off the novice hurdlers, largely as there is still quite a bit of uncertainty re targets. Still plenty of time for discussion - plus there are some interesting meetings still to come - and the stable tours are now coming through so potentially getting hints re targets and clues re running plans.

….The Yellow Clay a consideration for Stayers following the Elliott stable tour. 14-1 available;

‘We’ve decided to keep him over hurdles. There is a Listed hurdle for him at Down Royal or he could go to the Boyne Hurdle instead. I could see us stepping up to three miles with him sooner rather the later, maybe at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting.’

….not sure you picked up the discussion in the Juvenile thread @RufusFlynn but @darlojim gave a positive mention for Mange Tout (TH). Plenty 16-1 available but worth noting she’s down to run on Saturday of next week.

Has to be doesn't he ??

If The New Lion and Final Demand are supposedly top notch then he must be to as he split them at the Fez.

He looks the value bet in the Stayers to me.

I know I've been beating the drum a bit (a lot).....

But if people like Lecky Watson or Stellar Story for the Gold Cup then you just have to consider Haiti Coleurs for the race.

On a line through Better Days Ahead, who plenty fancied for the BANC, Haiti beat him nearly 30 lengths in the Irish National. On paper that would have been good enough form for Haiti to have won the BANC.

Haiti was also well clear of Resplendent Grey in the NHC who went on to win the Bet365 Chase at Sandown. Spanish Harlem finished 4th in that race and came out and won at Punchestown next and won the Kerry National this season. Behind him in the Kerry National was French Dynamite who has since won the Munster National. Klarc Kent was also well beaten in the NHC and came out again and finished a close 2nd in the Scottish National.

The form lines are very good to say the least !
