National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Riders' Novices' Chase

I would imagine Patrick would school most of willies horses at some point
This race has had it’s fair share of incidents and controversy recently
Willie and Patrick lost a good young horse in it last year
It may temper their enthusiasm and owners of good horses may shy away from it
I know they have shortened the distance but only four finished last year with a number of jockeys banned
The fact they are running carefully selected over 2.5 miles today when he has not yet qualified would be a concern
Especially if he runs well, could be an RSA horse

Other than last year's race, I don't remember their being any controversy.

The plan was to get two more runs into CS, one today and the next over 3 miles. Hopefully he'll learn plenty today and then qualify for the NH Chase in the Ten Up Chase.

Unfortunately horses will pay the ultimate price in this sport, risk can be reduced but never removed. I honestly can't see any owners refusing to run their horses in it. If they are then they shouldn't be owners of national hunt horses.....imo.

Yep, I'm pretty sure willie is not ignorant enough to blame a specific race for a horse dying.

Think most people on here, including myself, will be more interested in the after race comments rather than the race itself for CS today.

4 points on both CS and CC for this race at 5s NRNB agree with Q on CC and think the same for CS if lining up. Already have a big position on both and very much see this as a top-up with the intention of laying this extra stake off in full if either or both line up on the day

Patrick talked about this race for Carefully selected after racing today. Running tomorrow for experience the ten up to get him qualified

Impressive from carefully selected there
Looks to have a bit of class
Showed he has plenty of speed too
Still not convinced he comes here
RSA for me

Mullins with a major headache with his chasers now on where to send them

Can't think of any he has qualified yet ??
anyone got any ideas ??
Who he runs in the ten up will be interesting.
They might bring Brahma Bull out of hibernation.

Absolutely no chance he comes here after that imo. Too good, too pacey for this race. CC backers must be happy with that.

So the plan Patrick talked about yesterday evening goes out the window because he wins a grade 3 beating (albeit very well) a few horses that have underwhelmed massively this season, Speak Easy will probably end up in a handicap and he was running a nice enough race into second before tipping over at the last. He wins the NHC for me if going that direction, can’t say the same of the RSA.

Have both avenues covered but I’d be far more confident of this route being a successful one!

It may depend how well Willie does in the Flogas with his other runners.
But so far Carefully Selected looks his best.
Only champagne (of note) to beat though in the NH chase

Only backed him at 12's for NHC but not hopeful at all that he rocks up here.

True enough, if Allaho bombs in the Flogas plans can change.

The only novice chaser of willies that has a target set in stone is cashback (because hes too keen to go anywhere else) You'll be a poor man trying to work out the rest of them. Even willie dosent know right now.

I think the play here is obvious...
Champagne Classic.
May not have a great deal to beat?
Two very obvious contenders (Carefully Selected and Sams Spinner) far from certain/won’t make.
Yard always state they’ll go for the easiest race to win and this most certainly could be it.
