National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Riders' Novices' Chase

I think the play here is obvious...
Champagne Classic.
May not have a great deal to beat?
Two very obvious contenders (Carefully Selected and Sams Spinner) far from certain/won’t make.
Yard always state they’ll go for the easiest race to win and this most certainly could be it.

Sam Spinners out for the season!

But That's frought with danger too.
Youd also be a poor man listening to Gordon about who is horse for the NH chase is.
He was adamant the likes of dounikos was going there.

To be told otherwise.

Not at 5-1 NRNB you wouldn't

PP/BF ducking CS in the NHC into 9/2 (he still hasn’t even qualified) & biggest price of 16/1 for the RSA.

I see your point but they wouldnt adjust yet. Hardly in the weighing room texting them theres a change of plan. Owners to be spoken to and discussed. Its miles out.

Prior to today it was obvious the race they were planning to run in.
Awaiting comments after today though.

Willie Mullins, who won the race with Invitation Only in 2018, said: "I was very happy with the way he tackled these fences on his own in front. He was careful when he needed it to be and got good jumps when Paul wanted them."

Mullins indicated Carefully Selected's future could lie over further, adding: "He would enjoy a faster pace and probably a longer trip, but I wanted to get experience into him after we missed Leopardstown.

"The way he jumped there, I would think the National Hunt Chase would look to be right up his street but we'll keep the RSA open too. I would like to get another run into him before Cheltenham."

The trainer suggested the Ten Up Chase over three miles at Navan as a potential target, with Paddy Power cutting the son of Well Chosen to 5-1 (from 6) for the National Hunt Chase and 14-1 (from 20) for the RSA.

Just responding to some 4/1 and 5/1 chat earlier, and note CS is 6/1 any race. I wouldn’t personally back him at those prices for anything, at this point.

Can you not see why he'd be value for the NH chase.
With the lack of qualifiers and quality in the race ?
The biggest danger is CS and he could easily go for something else now, after today. And still has to qualify, so has to be fit for the ten up and get round in first four.
He's 7-1 best price antepost and 5-1 NRNB.
I'm very surprised you don't see this.

Very pleased with CS there. He's one of my bigger winners of the week.

As Sean alluded to, it appeared this has been the plan for him, and you'd be hard pushed to see them changing their mind on the back of today's run. I win fractionally more on him in the RSA but have a very healthy cash out position so happy either way personally.

This race looks like it will be much more winnable for him though.

Hopefully all roads lead here.

Mullins said: “This race wasn’t the plan, but I wanted to get experience into him because he missed running at Leopardstown.

“He was careful when he needed to be and got some good jumps when Paul wanted him. He learned a lot today, and we are very happy.

“He didn’t get too hard a race there. I hadn’t planned running at the Dublin Racing Festival – but maybe something just after that, he could go for before Cheltenham.

“The way he went around there, the National Hunt Chase would be right up his street, but we have to keep the RSA open as well.

“I’d like to get another run into before Cheltenham, and the Ten Up at Navan is a possibility. I often think it’s too near Cheltenham, but this fella doesn’t take too much out of himself racing.

“He’s well able to jump and he’s well able to gallop on at his fences. He’s also nice and careful when you leave him alone – so that’s all the things you want in a staying chaser.”
