MARTIN PIPE Conditionals Handicap Hurdle

Pondering a punt on Hawai Game for this race, running again today in the Moscow Flyer.

33/1 Available for the Ballymore.

20/1 Available for Martin Pipe.

I'm a little bit torn as Willie sounds quite upbeat about the horse in his sporting life column:

"He put in a really good performance at Naas. He showed a lot of class on the day and was very green – that run should have educated him a lot.

He might be second string on paper but on what he showed me at Naas it wouldn’t surprise me if he upset the odds here. He appears to have a bit of class."

I could wait for the race, but I think if he runs a good second/third the Bookies will shorten the Martin Pipe price.

Is this horse on anyone else's radar, if so what would you advise?

…I read that quote earlier and had a little bit of 33-1 on offer with Hills to win & a/r. It’s 10-1 in Hills a/r market which doesn’t really appeal.

I've backed him with hills to win sunday and any race at the festival at 36.5-1.
But mainly as I'm hoping Dysart wins easily, and he looks a danger.

He will have to run again after this race to get a mark for the pipe so not certain how much his Pipe price would alter. If it did then I wouldn't worry as there are at least 50 mentioned for this race every year and they rarely win, it's usually something else.
If he wins then he's unlikely to go for the pipe, so a bet now would be almost certainly money lost.

I've taken the above on board.

I've decided to go down the Ballymore route and take the 33/1 available with Bet365 and a cashout option for some more cover in the book. Probably the sensible way to play it if he turns out to be special.


Edit: Out to 50/1 for the Ballymore now after today's run over 2m, I may cash out for a small loss and go back in on the Martin Pipe JP loves a handicap.

So I backed Gringo D'aubrelle for this on Friday and been seeing the sea of blue today.
Has he run to well..... Or just right? I kind of was hoping he would win and shorten for supreme or bally. But that's OK.. I guess?
 
I think the beating he was given showed he won't be up to G1 standard, so ensured he would be handicap bound

Ash Tree Meadow is one I've thought about for this. Couple of runs behind Gringo D'aubrelle and Sir Gerhard so far. I remember in OJA it was mentioned he could be a better horse in the spring too. Definitely one I'm interested in.

Ash Tree Meadow entered over 2m4 at Navan on Saturday. Nice run there and on to the Martin Pipe... if only it were that easy! :biggrin-new:

Au Fleuron entered for his (possible) third run at Navan on Saturday. Gordon used that race for one of his MP runners last season.

Declared for Saturday. Not sure if this will be the target for sure but it’s great he’s getting the third run in with plenty of time to spare.

I’m still interested in Au Fleuron as I think that shows he needs stepping up in trip. Jumped pretty slick today and will likely get a mark of high 120’s which would be a concern getting into this without some hefty tax added.

That adds to my confidence having your good self on board. I’ll be checking his mark next week but I’m a little worried it won’t be high enough.
