Marsh Novices Chase 2020 (was JLT)

City Island is one I am keen to get onside for the Arkle also, waiting on some free bets this weekend!

Me too CoD. Is this definitely the plan for him though as he doesnt scream 2 miler and you'd have to think JLT is more suitable?

I liked the idea of him coming here, but this quote put me off. For all things change + this was before Cheltenham:


It was an ideal race for City Island to run in before he goes over. The owners are mad to have a runner in their own race and thankfully we might have fallen on one. It's been the plan since Galway, we found a couple of races to fit in. He jumps very well and it was a nice opportunity to find. Mark (Walsh) says he'll get three miles a bit later on, so he should have no problem with the 2m5f at Cheltenham - Martin Brassil, trainer.
 
Watch his Leopardstown race back lads. Raya Time & DDP are hardly rapid and they had him off the bridle early over 2m. Can’t see the Arkle being suitable.
 
Yeah that was my thoughts. Think there is a real void waiting to be filled in the Arkle by a good one though.

That was his first run after a fairly long break. The Ballymore is not run at a dawdle either, but travelled well in that. I think he's more than capable of keeping tabs in an Arkle, the problem, as always with any horse in a 2m chase is the jumping I find. No room for mistakes usually.
 
There’s more chance he steps up than drops back for me.

Haven’t backed him yet either way. Will wait till he gets an entry/dec.
 
I’ve backed City Island antepost for the Stayers Hurdle (yep good planning!); couldn’t have him for the Arkle at all, surely wants further
 
Anybody heard an update on City Island? Trainer said the plan was to start him off at Nass on the 9th of November.
 
Thought Champ looked quicker than him in Ballymore but City Island finished stronger. More likely an RSA horse than Arkle for me. They were talking about the Stayers Hurdle at one point and not the CH so connections seem to think he's more a stayer than a 2 miler
 
There's no doubt that connections of City Island think he's more of a stayer.

But had the Ballymore been ran over 2 miles this year.
I'm pretty sure the same two horses would have fought out the finish.
They'd both be useful in this years arkle, (taking the differing jumping ability out of the equation.)

The City Island for the arkle has been sparked a little bit by David Jennings tipping him up.
Now just cos he's an Irish racing journalist don't mean he knows any more than we do, but he might.
The connections have been quiet for a while on this horse.

I enjoy watching him and find him very entertaining, and he often writes very well, but his tips fall on deaf ears with me

Although he did not win, there was some promise to Mister Fishers debut today.

1.) The first 3 home were all rated within a pound of each other with the winner getting the weight for age allowance. They therefore probably ran to a decent enough level today.
2.) The winner was race fit after having two runs already this season.
3.) Mister Fisher jumped very well at a left handed track with a difficult back straight.
4.) The ground was softer than ideal for Mister Fisher but ideal for the winner.
5.) Mister Fisher lost on debut last season.
6.) Today was over 2m whereas Henderson has said he’d need stepping up in trip this season.

You could call the above a whole bunch of excuses but he’d have easily won an ordinary Novice chase had they found an easier race.

I would give a shout to Lisp for the Grand Annual too. He also jumped well in the main and ran in lots of the big 2m handicap hurdles last season. He’s better in a stronger run race with a big field and if they can keep him around his current mark in the mid 140’s, he could be competitive if he finds some improvement over fences. He’s only a 5yo with not many miles on the clock either.
 
The racing manager of Sueode and Munir sponsors that race so they always target one of their best at it and have him ready to win, just look at previous winner of the last 5 years Bristol De Mai, Top Notch, Sceau Royal. Wouldnt give up on Mr Fisher as a result and the winner needs to be kept a big fat eye on!

Don't blame you, I Never follow anyone's tips blindly, but my ears are always open.
I actually meant that he may know more about the flexibility of the horses/yards plans.
Although he probably doesn't.:p
 
Birchdale and Angels Breath take each other (plus First Flow and The Mighty Don) on at Ascot tomorrow
 
First flow must have a great chance against those 2, would have beaten Summerville boy comfy I feel if he hadn’t blundered badly at the last fence on debut. Not an easy start for them both, only have birchdale backed any race at present. Might be worth having the triggers ready during the race.

The Henderson guns are starting to be fired now and it seems the novice hurdlers are not far behind either.

Angles Breath looked awkward still in the video of him schooling so he would not get a penny of my money. Birchdale I really like and I'd expect him to prove one of the best of Hendersons novice chasers.

Market seems to think so too but hard enough to split on hurdle form ( and mighty don also similar) - based on price I am backing AB
