Mares Novice Hurdle 2018

Would this not worry you for the festival then, as last 2 Mares' Novice Hurdles have been on good ground?

I think Cap Soleil will still run in this race if good ground, but she might be vulnerable as there is so much chat from connections about how she likes a bit of cut. I'll be checking the forecast about a week before and if there is rain about then i'll go in again. Salsaretta will have been out by then, and we should also know more about the others at the head of the market

On the FFP Johnny ward said he had heard whispers that they weren't at all afraid of taking of Fayonagh with Salsaretta.

Really excited to see Cap Soleil at the weekend, I think her price might hold up quite well, especially if Salsaretta is looking good in Ireland.

Was interesting to here that from J.Ward on FFP ... certainly a strong talking horse and you'd have to respect it given they've had the last two winners..... she'd only need to win once and she'll likely be fav!

I also found it interesting that same yard have already brought a brother of Salsaretta for next season, whether that's on what he's shown or they are so impressed with Salsaretta and her breeding line I'm unsure, but unlike Mullins and Co to bring one in that early from France.

Ricci certainly hasn't been shy of how he rates Salsaretta.

Hadn't seen that... what is his name?

Breaken I believe. With Mullins but not Ricci, believe it's owned by same owner of Melon, so will be on my radar next season.

Finished 2nd at auteuil on his last start. Typical purchase from Pierre boullard, and one of many.

Forms not worked out well behind him, but I'm sure hes been given plenty of time and will improve from that. Could be one for the fred winter, If hes not out at grass.

Did really like the Cap Soleil hurdles debut performance, but as with all early season hurdles form I'd want to see more to say that the ground was the only unanswered question about her that I have. That final bumper run (at Sandown) form is nothing special, them horses she beat have done hardly nothing of any note since.

She's done nothing wrong to date, so can't knock her, but want her against some better opposition now.

Think that sums up the early season form. Full of hit and misses, and that wasn't even a strong race really. Salsaretta giggling away to herself right now.

Diddnt expect that at all. Just took some 16s dame rose.

“We’ll stick with 2 miles and soft ground,” trainer Richard Hobson says of Dame Rose. “We’ll think about Cheltenham but there’ll be no rush with races."

Inexplicably Betway have gone 50/1 for Dame Rose.
They’ve restricted me to £1.53 (how they come up with these amounts I’ve no idea).
I can’t imagine that will last long ...

I’m keeping the faith with Cap Soleil. Valid excuse for defeat yesterday with wound on leg reported, bit of juice in the ground come March and she’s the one to beat for me (having not seen Salsaretta out yet)

Interesting.
They may meet again next time up.

Same course, ground and trip and a 20 length swing. ‘Bad cut to the right fore leg’ the only logical reason for such a turnaround

Too many unexposed types still though. Dame De Compagnie, OK, exposed against the boys but not against her own sex, she can't run in the Triumph due to her age, and her performance against Slate House would suggest she won't be put up against the boys again, and needs to be respected back against her own sex, and also, Mystic Theatre was looking like winning the Grade 3 before falling, she's done nothing wrong this season bar that fall and is entitled to go well again, them 2 before Salsaretta even makes her hurdles debut suggests there is plenty for Cap Soleil to think about, regardless of that run over the weekend.

Hello all, hope you are well.

Just a quick (and possibly stupid) question.

Benie Des Dieux, winner of the mares chase at Carlisle today. She has had two starts, big over fences.

Could she theoretically therefore be a novice hurdler if she went over the smaller obstacles?

Looks like being a strong race for sure, Apples Shakira might even turn up here yet as well, JP has so many to slot in. Won’t be going back in on Cap Soleil but think shunting her out to 16s is way too big given the injury yesterday

No unfortunately not.
She lost her novice status at the end of the 2014 season

Was pleased to see an excuse in the context of me already having 2 pts at 10/1... but wouldn't be racing in again at 16s.

Not very encouraging comments on the Fergal O’Brien blog about Cap Soleil. ‘Cap Soleil ran another blinder in a Listed Mares Hurdle on Saturday and just needed the ground to be softer to show her true colours’. No mention of injury though it’s been reported elsewhere. Don’t know what to make of that given that the ground description was exactly the same as when beating Dame Rose previously.

Have Salsaretta, Mystic Theatre and Ainsi Va La Vie backed for this race also, but in looking for some more cover I’ve stumbled upon Sunshade. Out today in a fairly hot looking novices Hurdle, Sunshade beat Oscar Rose 6 lengths cosily first time out over hurdles. Oscar Rose previously finished ahead of Petticoat Tails (also out today), so Sunshade’s form ties in nicely with Dame Rose and Cap Soleil. Clearly likes good ground so today will be a nice test on good to soft over a bit further. Owned by the Queen, If she wins today I think she’ll shorten quite a bit so happy to take a chance pre-race and have a small interest at 33s
