March ‘25 Yankee

I think the stayers could be the right target, winners of the MP tend to be future stayers,

I've just watched the Pipe back and I agree, have taken the 33s on offer.
She actually took off again about 100 yards out and was going further away at the line, I therefore wouldn't be convinced 20f on the Old Course would suit, she actually looks made for a Stayers Hurdle to me.
Obviously they'll consider chasing and could well end up in the BANC but if she stays over timber I think it more likely she steps up in trip...

Edit - yes ignore for the yankee unless targets get mentioned (unlikely) before Aintree

….one from left field, but with the top of the GN betting opened with today’s defection of Inothewayurthinking, any thoughts of going for a Canadian this month including a GN selection?

I recall us doing it once before without success.

I’d be fairly confident majborough will be aimed at the champion chase next year.
He’ll only be 6.
Id back him over anything else for the queen mother right now

He'll only be 6 but he still won't be able to jump a fence well enough to win a 2mile chase at cheltenham.

You can't seriously have him in your mind for a qmcc?
i can understand you're hoping his jumping can improve but i havent seen any evidence from any of his chases to suggest this is possible at 2 miles.

Cheltenham was the quickest average entry speed in to the fence from any of his chases and it showed.

I can see this horse has a serious engine but id have him more likely a faller than winner if turning up in the queen mum.

I always thought it would be quite interesting for one of the Yankee legs to be a near term antepost horse. Get that in the bag and the excitement builds over the other 3. And at least it's a near certain runner!

Of the rest, I think you're looking at the right races. I'd only be interested in the 4 championship races and 2 novice chases at this stage. I struggle to pick a Ryanair runner in February, let alone 12 months out. I may have missed the chat, but Kopek at 5s would be my preference over William Munny. 6 year olds, especially who won grade 1s as a novice hurdlers have a great record in the Arkle. El Fab, Douvan, Gaelic Warrior and this year's winner spring to mind. Edwardstone was the only 8 year old in the last 15 and that was a terrible Arkle.

I could see Fact To File running in the Champion Chase before Majborough.

I wouldn't disagree with you on this.
with the qmcc run at such a pace it usually turns in to a proper test, his proven stamina and excellent jumping would be huge assets.
For me fact to file would more likely win going down in trip than up in trip to the gold cup, however having said all of this I think the Ryanair is the perfect race for him, as he showed this season.

I wouldn’t be single minded enough to jump to a conclusion on that horse based on what we’ve seen of him so far.
So absolutely I’d back him. Depending on prices of course.

He didn’t and hasn’t fallen yet, which is probably a shame as he might learn to steady himself a bit vs the way he attacks some of the fences.

Though Id rather a horse attack fences than be cautious at them myself. Especially 2 milers - which is similar to champion hurdlers.

sometimes they’ll come unstuck. That’s the gamble.

I agree with what you say here .

I'd much rather a Gidleigh Park than a Ballyburn thats for sure. But then over hurdles I'd prefer them the other way around.

Do you not think connections will want him to step up in trip?
If he continues at 2miles clouting fences will he not end up like el fabiolo?

No price now unfortunately. Adam Mills and Johnny Dineen have both put him up. The way Johnny was talking on UTA, I'd be confident that he knows FTF is going to run over 2 miles at Punchestown.

I’m not sure what they will do.
But at age 6 next spring I doubt he’s going much further in trip.
Fact to File looks classy enough for any trip but don’t see the need to drop him back long term.
It’ll depend on switching and majborough and how the fair when next seen.

:applouse:Switching is auto correct for sir gino

How about an early related double
fact to file qmcc
Majborough Ryanair

Even this far out id be fairly certain they would be split, same trainer, same owner.
And if fact to file impresses over 2miles at Punchestown as you seem to suggest through jonny dineen seems probable, the odds would soon look very favourable.

…..anybody fancy making the final selection?

Haven't heard jonny or adam mills views, Daryl also seems to like Fact To File if he was to show up in the QMCC.

FTF is still 16s with ladbrokes. :cheerful:

Very hard to predict.

….are folk generally ok with these 3 suggestions?;

Munny (Ark) 12-1
Marine (CC) 7-1
Inothewayurthinking (GC) 5-1*

if we’re in agreement and looking for one more I’d be very tempted with Derryhassen Paddy whilst that 33-1 with 365 is still there. Russell absolutely loves this horse, everything is geared to chasing yet he ran a very decent 3rd in AB for one so lightly raced. She certainly knows how to train a staying chaser.

The consensus could be he’s an unlikely winner?

*Inothewayurthinking not running in GN.

Jasmin de Vaux for the Stayers with those 3 would be my ideal pick.

….happy with that and a popular suggestion but a little concerned about the differing trainer/owner view on whether he stays over hurdles or goes chasing.

Is there no love for Lecky Watson in here ?
Can’t be often a BANC winner gets initial quotes of 33s to follow up in the Gold Cup and no-one is keen.
Unless I’ve missed comments ?

Edit - just taken some 33s Lecky Watson, been trimmed to 20s and 25s in a couple of places…

I'm happy with those three, already done one of my own with those and the new lion but will go again with the the fourth pick.

I've backed him purely because he won the banc, not often you see the winner of that at 33's for following season gold cup.
