J.L.T Novices Chase 2019

See Vinndiication is entered in both the Scilly Isles over 2m 4f and the Towton Novices Chase at Wetherby over 3 miles both on Saturday. Looking at Kim Bailey's Twitter account he name checks the Scilly Isles adding he is expecting rain later in the week. Do we think if he takes up that engagement he'd be unlikely to step him to 3 miles for the first time in the RSA if heading to the Festival?

The Scilly Isles looks a good race. I hope he rolls the dice. 3 miles and left handed instead would make me fear for this race for him

Scilly Isles looks to be plan A lads & nice to see he doesn’t just see him as a soft ground horse.

Bailey said: “I am very happy with Vinndication since his last run at Ascot, he has had plenty of time to recover from it and it has always been the plan from when he went past the post to run at Sandown.

“Comparing him at home to the racecourse is a tricky one as he is a very laid back individual. He wouldn’t give you a huge amount of encouragement at home by what he does – he does it in his own way.”

All of Vinndication’s wins over jumps have been on soft ground, but Bailey is hoping to learn a little more about his preferred conditions at the weekend.

He said: “The ground is going to be the 100,000 dollar question and we will find that out this weekend. If they are putting frost covers down it will obviously make it softer or tackier.

“I have always said he is a horse that goes on soft ground but if you watch his action at home, he has got a very good ground action so I don’t know.

“I think it’s most probably a case of his previous opposition has been slowed down by soft ground where he has been able to handle it. So we will find out an awful lot on Saturday.”

Bailey explained why he did not run Vinndication in one of the novice hurdles at Cheltenham last year after his victory in the Sidney Banks Memorial Novices’ Hurdle in February.

“He was a very immature horse last year, and when he came back from his race at Huntingdon he had a touch of sore shins and you certainly can’t go to Cheltenham with sore shins or even attempt to,” he said.

“You have got to gallop downhill which puts more pressure on him and I just felt he wasn’t ready for it.”

Let's hope he's ready this year then

As someone in the comments section said, how does the interviewer not ask JLT or RSA?

I find it baffling when this happens. It’s literally the main question most people would’ve wanted asked.

I sometimes wonder if the trainer tells the interviewer beforehand not to ask that question because surely it’s the obvious thing to ask him? Surely?

Yeh I thought that

Let's play that game again ....He would have just said 'he's entered in both, we'll see how he gets on next time, let's take each race at a time'

:highly_amused:

Fully expect vinndication to win this and go fav for the JLT

He's beat Jerrysback. There's stronger form in Ireland and England.

Anyone heard news on champagne classic’s intended target? I doubt he’ll take on Delta Work in the RSA, and not sure he wants the 4 miler. Looked to be cutting out a little at the 3M trip in his last run, although given he needed the run badly. I’ve backed any race, but can’t help but get tempted at the 33/1 for the JLT, given I can’t see giggins town having anything else for the race? Anyone else getting tempted in ?

He’s beaten everything that’s been put in front of him. He’s not a flashy horse, he’s never going to win by 10 lengths doing handstands. He’ll only ever do enough by the looks of it but he’s a hardy sort & we’ll know if he’s got the class to be a proper contender at Cheltenham on Saturday

Wouldn't be surprised if only 2 of the top 5 turn up on Saturday.

I’m on any race but topped up with a little of the 33s in the JLT with B365 after his run at the weened. I don’t have a particularly strong belief that this is where he’ll turn up but he travelled well enough through the race to make me think it’s certainly plausible and 33s is/was too big with the option of cash out if it looks likely he’ll go elsewhere.

Yeah. I think boopa is right, his form isn't strong over fences yet but I am with you in thinking he'll keep pulling out more.

I would just LOVE this horse to win that race

I think Vinndication will be outpaced in this. You'll see the best of him when he goes up in trip. I've kept 33/1 for now. Other bets are Hardline 35/1 34/1 30/1 29/1, Winter Escape 35/1 (open double), Real Steel 60/1 (open double), Mengli Khan 250/1.

Agree with that Sean, he cannot beat horses he hasn't faced yet. Not sure why some are quick to write him off, hes a very good horse and I hope this is his target as I think he has a very good chance indeed.

Iv come round to hardline. I'm hoping la bague au roi beats him. And dosent go here therefore he drifts out and becomes a false price.

I think he's short enough with that race ahead. But I could be shown wrong. He wins it and goes very short

And then gets beat by Voix Du Reve......again!
