Handicap Shortlist - Cheltenham 2020

Ciel de Neige is a very interesting horse and clearly very well handicapped. Janidil is another in the same boat who I've got my eyes on for this... Another very well handicapped JP / Willie horse.

Looking forward to seeing Janidil today, disappointed not to get a bit bigger than 5/1 but think he will take some stopping.

I mentioned Saint D’oroux a while back but I reckon he could be one for the Fred Winter. Gordon is going back against a decent horse again and as Munir & Souede likely have better options for the Triumph with Hendo, The Saint could be ‘handicapped’ instead.

I like Saint D'Oroux, backed him on debut to be disappointed, so hoping for a bit more in the future.

Be interesting to see what mark Janidil gets for that... mid 140's maybe?

Still, not all about Cheltenham, a very nice pot today.

Good run by Ciel De Neige as well. shouldn't affect his mark too much

Maybe add Articulum to this list , 3rd today , 3rd in the Arkle this year at the festival.

Interesting to see Campeador race with more enthusiasm for a while before dropping right out over too sharp a trip these days. Should set him up nicely for finishing a never nearer 5th or 6th in a Pertemps Qualifier in a few weeks. Over to you Davy Russell.

....Lisp just won a race at Plumpton which carries a £60k bonus if it wins a Chase at Cheltenham (Close Bros perhaps).

Although he did not win, there was some promise to Mister Fishers debut today.

1.) The first 3 home were all rated within a pound of each other with the winner getting the weight for age allowance. They therefore probably ran to a decent enough level today.
2.) The winner was race fit after having two runs already this season.
3.) Mister Fisher jumped very well at a left handed track with a difficult back straight.
4.) The ground was softer than ideal for Mister Fisher but ideal for the winner.
5.) Mister Fisher lost on debut last season.
6.) Today was over 2m whereas Henderson has said he’d need stepping up in trip this season.

You could call the above a whole bunch of excuses but he’d have easily won an ordinary Novice chase had they found an easier race.

I would give a shout to Lisp for the Grand Annual too. He also jumped well in the main and ran in lots of the big 2m handicap hurdles last season. He’s better in a stronger run race with a big field and if they can keep him around his current mark in the mid 140’s, he could be competitive if he finds some improvement over fences. He’s only a 5yo with not many miles on the clock either.

I mentioned Lisp in the JLT thread but for the Grand Annual

...some good ones have won that Plumpton race. Chapman interviewed Tom Bellamy afterwards and said the 2.4m Novice Handicap Chase might be the way to go but it’s not up to him. Lisp is 20-1 in the Hills ‘any race’ market.

Indeed, plenty of blue for Lisp on Oddschecker for the Arkle at very big prices.

Probably because no markets for the handicap chases yet, and not great strength in Britain for the Arkle yet either.

I've just watched the Hennessy back and the fact Beware the Bear got as close as he did off 158 I'd question how strong the renewal was, but, although we know the horse is a rogue I can't help thinking Yorkhill might have gone close had he not veered left and fallen (when staying on very well).
I think the UK 'capper has him at 154 which would put him at the top end of an Ultima or Browns Advisory should connections decide to send him down the handicap route.
He wouldn't have the standard profile of these races but he can clearly be a class act on his day....

Cartwright pertemps 20/1 looks very tempting

There is a 0% chance I wouldn't back Yorkhill for any festival handicap.

Imagine he gets in the Brown Plate, a C&D festival winner. Jeeeezus.

I really do think he was running a massive race too. Not really connections that plan Cheltenham handicap plots though over fences? Or is that just a myth?

....not sure if the Pipes can still ready one to pick up a big pot after a long absence, but Kings Socks will be of interest if (as Pipe reports) it could be back from injury in the New Year.
