Cross Country Chase 2018

Cause Of Causes has come for significant money over the weekend.

I can't be sure of the exact date, but Wednesday or Thursday last week more money had been traded for Josies Orders on Betfair than COC, however there seems to have been a vast influx of bets on the same exchange as COC has now traded nearly 10k more that JO in the space of 2 or 3 days. Whilst this is no guarantee the horse will win I do like to see monetary confidence behind a horse especially this close to a festival. Note a few bookmakers have cut him, i'd imagine in line with the money on the exchanges for him, too.

I think I recall Kev saying last summer if CoC lines up then there's a good chance he'll go off around 7/4 - certainly heading that way now. And without wishing to give the man a big head he was pretty confident of BVD ending up long odds on - fingers crossed for a quiet week

So I mentioned on another thread about some info (not ground breaking) about Vinndication running in the Ballymore from a close friend of mine who is friends with one of the owners (I know but bear with me), well I've also been told about something else relevant to this race of more interest I think. So also trained by Kim Bailey is Last Samurai who apparently had a trot round the Cheltenham cross-country fences last week (just like CoC, TR et al the other week) and is apparently coming here.

If you were to look on oddschecker you would probably think that was highly unlikely as he isn't even listed. However I recall him being listed with Bet 365 some time ago I think originally at 8s, he is still on their list but now into 5s. He is available on the exchange last matched at 10.5. My close friend has been told to back him along with Vinndication so they obviously feel he has a chance. So those with much more knowledge than me what do we think his chances are in this?

While this thread has been bumped just wanted to highlight that TLS has now been priced up by most bookies now and backed into 8s from 12s. Anybody thinking of a saver or still agreeing with Jono should be 20s to get you interested?

Petrified everytime this thread is bumped. We could nearly do with a cross country bar Cause of Causes thread so one of us dont take a banger before the festival :highly_amused:

Elliot’s yard love a punt, always makes me feel so much more confident when strong money comes for one of his

Hoping it’s good to soft at worse come the Wednesday! Wouldn’t be sure if causea is the same horse on soft/heavy ground or if he’d even turn up! Forecast not looking great this week and next! Lots of wet weather around!

GO ON THE CODDFATHER

The CC course always rides on the firmer side compared to the main course.

Gordon Elliott very positive on cause of causes at preview tonight

GE: Apples Jde very good at home. She's been there and done it before. Best chance going over. Cause of Causes very good form. Tiger Roll been schooling well. Hard to get away from Caue of Causes. Loves the place. Jury goes for RSA. Mossbank 4 miler & Fagan.

That is the best news I've heard in weeks.

FINALLY he has come out and admitted Cause of Causes is better than Tiger bloomin' Roll!

Jury Duty also going RSA??? That will be the first 5 in the 4 miler betting all going elsewhere

Couple of quotes today from Gordon Elliot in Kevin Blake’s Colum

Cause of causes

He goes to the cross-country race. It looks a good opportunity for him. He’s in very good form at home and we couldn’t be happier with him. He doesn’t do anything fancy at home, but he always seems to come alive at Cheltenham. Jamie Codd will ride him.

Tiger roll.

He goes for the cross country and Keith Donoghue will ride him. He had a kissing spine surgery before he came back this season and he’s another that seems to come alive at Cheltenham. We brought him over to school over these obstacles since his last run and I was delighted with him over there. We don’t like to leave any stone unturned if we can at all and that is why we do things like that. He’s absolutely flying at home and I think he’ll run very well.

Interesting Davy Russell hasn’t chosen to ride tiger roll, making me even more confident about cause of causes chances. Confidence seems to be getting stronger and stronger with causes the closer we get to the big day!

TW - Cause of Causes classy horse, and Tiger Roll same. Thinks between them, and CoC wins. CoC is a certainty here.

LB - Trainer doesn't stop talking about CoC. Trained to win this again.

RP - Definitely CoC, his form around Cheltenham.

LB Gives man in audience €100 @ 4/1 on CoC.

RP - Tiger roll had a spin round but his jumping wasn't great, and Lisa O'Neill gave him a great ride, I wouldn't fancy steering him round. CoC wins

It's the kind of preview night you want if you've been following the cause for the last five years.
Looking more and more likely that Tiger roll only in here to keep Causes price nice, had to save on it obviously.
