Close Bros Handicap Chase

:triumphant:

That's a pretty dumb tweet.

What bit is confusing?

The weather looks like being okay up until Tuesday.... they aren't sure after that.

Lough Derg Spirit runs

Don't count of their runners later in the week yet?

Cooper agreed to ride Taffe's horse UNLESS Quamino got in. He got in - and is a massive player! 20/1 with WH 5 places wont last long. Should be half the price. Form horse as opposed to those who need to show a marked improvement in form. Will be held up off a stupid gallop and pass them one by one.

Phew he’s in!! Weird tweet as looks like Tuesday might be the worst ground wise!

It's dumb cos the owners and trainer have said that LDS ideally wants goodish ground.
It sounds like it's soft going they are concerned about for their horses.

The short term forecast is obviously more reliable than the longer term (even though it looks drier later in the week).
The short term forecast is for heavy rain from early Tuesday up till the race, on already Gd to Sft (soft in places).
If they were ever serious about the need for goodish ground then it's a likely NR in my mind.

Hope not though as I'd like to see it run and couldn't care less about the ground.

much more succinct than me.:highly_amused:

I am still wondering whether to back him. He is going to be nursed round to get the trip and sometimes on that ground you can find yourself too far back, particularly if you throw in the odd mistake. I would be a lot more hopeful on good ground.

Davy

CUBOMANIA (4:50pm Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase (Listed))

My final ride of the day is aboard Cubomania, again for Gordon. He has had a very busy time of things and this will be his 13th start since August. He won that day in Perth of a mark of 117 so this will be be a little tougher off what is nearly a 30lbs higher mark. However, there are plenty of positives in that he has had so much experience and has won here at Cheltenham in October. Any rain shouldn’t be a problem either as he seems to go on all ground. So, I guess it just depends on whether he can defy the big hike in the weights. Here’s hoping he can!

Davy in a handicap chase, it's just a bet isn't it...

You got a link to the whole article OV?

I agree with you Innoko, Davy for Gordon in a handicap chase is a good bet... mentioned he was booked early this morning when 20's, and Noble Endeavor in the Ultima is a good bet at 20s too IMO

Really coming round to Roaring Bull for this, ive already backed 3 in it though so not sure I need another one! Can anyone dissuade me?!

At the price I would just add him Stormez, even if it's just a saver. Nothing wrong with during a few bullets in the handicaps.

errrm...

He's not well handicapped on any of the collateral form I can see?

Beaten by Campeador that's been beaten by Articulum which wouldn't leave him thrown in?

9L behind Us and Them and 11L behind Sharjah over hurdles (behind Shady Operator too)

I'd respect the connections but doesn't look particularly well handicapped?
Then again, 20/1 so do what you want :p

I see it as a positive that Cooper will ride Quamino
Brian Hughes is a much better jockey for Ridersonthestorm

Racing Post Verdit:

The solid-looking A PLUS TARD is taken to show further progress and give rising star Rachael Blackmore a Festival success.

A Plus Tard
Last two wins came in big fields; only a 5yo and looks open to plenty more improvement

Azzerti
Reserve; won two of his last three starts but fell at this course in between

Ben Dundee
Let down by his jumping since winning at Punchestown; needs to cut out the errors

Cubomania
One of three runners for this yard; has won here and could go well under Davy Russell

Dell Oro
All wins on good ground; not sure to get his ideal surface here; cheekpieces fitted

Good Man Pat
Ran well on the figures in Grade 2 last time; looks well treated back in a handicap

Highway One O One
Good effort from the front in novice handicap here on Trials day; bigger field this time

Huntsman Son
Incurs a 5lb penalty for recent Newbury win; this race usually goes to a younger horse

Larry
Reserve; has doubts over his jumping; first-time cheekpieces need to help

Lough Derg Spirit
2-3 since chasing and form has substance; all rules wins in much smaller fields, however

Militarian
Comes here in great form but this is the toughest assignment he has faced

Movewiththetimes
Hasn't completed on last three runs but master trainer may yet bring out the best in him

Quamino
Two chase wins have come on good ground; has question to answer back on softer surface

Red Indian
Some useful form but it's not ideal that he unseated when 1-5 favourite last time

Riders Onthe Storm
Has improved with each start over fences and can rate higher yet; enters calculations

Roaring Bull
Powered clear for 14l success in Naas handicap a month ago; still unexposed at 2m4f

Shady Operator
Beat a notable rival two starts back (3m1f) but this drop back in trip looks a negative

Solomn Grundy
Running okay (at 2m4f-3m4f) for new stable but still seeking first win over fences

Springtown Lake
Front-runner; return to left-handed should suit but faces competition for the lead

The Russian Doyen
Two chase wins elsewhere but he disappointed at this track in between

Tower Bridge
Looks well treated on last year's Grade 1 novice hurdle form; interesting contender

Walt
Form figure of 121 since fitted with visor; won major 3m handicap at Kempton last time

....with Gareth en route, Riders onthe Storm has to be a very topical selection regardless of form.
