Cheltenham Preview Nights 2018

Top work Tim :encouragement:

I was meant to be going to that preview night tonight if it wasn't for the weather. Have to say pretty glad I didn't after watching it!

From another preview night involving Elliott apparently tonight:

- Shattered Love could end up in the JLT

I know not many are interested in this one, but I've been on her for the past couple of months (luckily all NRNB) but this would be rather annoying for myself!

That said, I also think she'd have a good chance in the JLT too, but do not have her covered for this.

Great stuff Tim, well written and good info., sounds like it was lively ?.

From another preview night involving Elliott apparently tonight:

- Shattered Love could end up in the JLT

- He wanted to run Dounikos in the 4 miler but the owners wanted to run in the RSA. Still to be decided

- Jamie Codd booked to ride Jury Duty but might save him for the Irish national if Dounikos shows up here

- Felix desjy will run in the bumper

- Davy rides De Plotting Shed in the novice chase

- Donagh meyler is qualified to ride in the Martin pipe and will ride one of his. Mentioned flawless escape, blow by blow/Dortmund park depending on weights

- Jamie Codd will ride Squouateur in the Kim Muir if he gets in

Aaagh , it's that time again ., After we were discussing last week , elliots stable tour , I did .A.Jade -mares, Dounikos -N.h.chs
, Shattered love -R.s.a and C.o.C - X/cntry. sounds like all change now !.

Tim that is a brilliant write up. Thanks. I missed the start but know from the later bits you got it all down.

A few of the crowd seemed to forget that what goes onto YouTube stays there. Nick Luck is wasted on pay to view. he did well to keep any order.

Doc kinda confirmed for No Comment interesting

Yes, too many idiots but you have to accept that is probably the kind of younger audience racing now attracts. In my opinion Luck could have done without straying down the sexual innuendo route. That seems par for the course for racing as well. I don't think the bad language from Kealy added anything either.

For me Luck's suggestion of laying Buveur D'Air was the most bizarre 'tip' of the evening.

As everyone else has said Tim's write-up was very concise.

Is that definite that Felix will run in the bumper? That would be very interesting, although it’s probably too long since he last ran for my personal liking

Given my record in the bumper (and my huge fancy this year for didtheyleaveuoutto) I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Felix Desjy romps home, but no way could I back him. On all known form he’s got 15/20 lengths to find, Hollowgraphic beat Cask Mate 15 lengths in a bumper last season, Felix Desjy a length or two this season (and didn’t make it look easy). Given that their confidence in Hollowgraphic is based on him improving plenty I couldn’t back Felix Desjy. If he wins you take it on the chin as no form had him doing so

Ive just read through your posts Tim Riggins. A big Cheers to you for your work. Nice one and appreciated by all.

There is no mainstream preview nights tonight is there? or even any local ones with comments due up late tonight?

Totally agree with this- the collateral form is poor and he should be 50/1. The argument seems to be that if Gigginstown are sending him then he must be good as they rarely have horses in this race. I am not sure I buy that argument: yes, they haven't had a runner since 2015 but they had two in that year (Stone Hard and General Principle) and neither could even beat Bay of Freedom!! :highly_amused:

Though jockey vibes (both Jamie Codd and Lisa O'Neill) wouldn't suggest it you could very well use the argument that it's a negative they are running him in the race i.e they keep their very best horses away from the race

Ryanair

Both think that Balkos Des Flos has to be backed, will go off much shorter.

DJ - Sub Lt 2nd to UDS last year, BDF far better horse, won a plate impressively, albeit off 146. Came back against Road To Respect, and ran a cracker. Eddie O'Leary likes horse, and best chance to win the race.

PK - Loves BDF, and was 40/1 in JLT, got backed. Tanking when he came down. No idea where he would have finished, but handles track well. Doesn't like soft, and we know UDS is fantastic horse. Sometimes you get on the wrong side of a horse, and just stay there. I'm like that with UDS.

Luck takes piss, and says shame when they win 20/26 :D

UDS won worst Ryanair, and thinks BDF better than anything that ran last year, and CC is, too. Can't have 12yo winning it, but will back Cue Card anyway, lol. BDF can't be out of the frame as long as he gets round.

DJ - Don't get affectionate about horses, never got it about The New One, but loves Cue Card. Bloody good horse, if BDF doesn't win, no greater pleasure than seeing CC win.

Waiting Patiently

PK - Not certain to run, Malcolm Jefferson not all that keen. If it's soft he wins. Potential superstar, but don't think he's going to run.

Is Middle of March there?

“How far does Burning Ambition win the fox hunters”

Ha - did someone ask that? What was the reply?

Cheers for the write up Tim

Balko Des Flos was certainly more popular than I’d have thought. Just seen his price for the Ryanair and I’m suprised. Didn’t realise he was so short now.

Thanks for all the kind words, but it was no biggy, and much easier than transcripting morse at 40wpm :)

I think the preview nights are more of a night out for youngsters, or blokes that don't get let out very often, by the looks of last night.

Once Ricci instructed them to give all in attendance freebar, it was never going to end well.

I think Betfair will be rearranging their preview, but as a live stream only, unless I'm mistaken.

I go to one on the Monday night before racing, it's attended by 250-300 people and although there's always a few that seem to attend these events just to have their views heard, disagree with the panel and rubbish anyone who disagrees with their opinion, rather than going with an open mind and actually learning something from people far more knowledgable and well connected than them, it never descends into that level of disrespect.
I guess many are sheep, one idiot heckles/boos and others follow suit....

^ in everything not just horses !

But then I am contrary.

I watched the BB live cast last night and it reminded me of the BF forum... Thats why I am here....

Is this preview in Cheltenham Ista. My group are always at a loose end on the Monday night and this might be something they'd be interested in attending.
