I hope so, providing it's not a marsh in March, and he doesn't win the GC, I'll likely start getting stuck into him for that as soon as Tiger wins his 3rd in April.

I think he should be the price he was before today's race, after. I like the horse, but just think he'll find a few too good. I'd have likely put some on the Cotswold/GC double if I'd been at my desk in time to spot it, though, as I've only got 2 darts in the race atm.

Santini looked good without me going Wowwwwwwwwww , that said he was doing all his best work in the closing stages so the extra furlong of Gold cup will definitely be up his street.
The third last at top of hill on both circuits of race nearly caught him out as they come round sharpish bend , but for such a big horse he fiddled them well.
Alot to like going forward , love the battling quality he showed also after briefly headed (did same in RSA).

Happy with Santini at 10/1 for this. He has a strong finish and just gets on without being flash. My kinda horse.

LIT was more disappointing last time out than Santini was first time out

I'd definitely prefer a horse to be improving their form than the other way around, as the season progressed.

They're a similar price, I can see people being more forgiving of LIT than Santini, despite Santini still winning when he disappointed, whereas LIT didn't?

Fair too. For me Santini would come into the picture on really soft ground, otherwise I think he will be too slow for them

Cant beleive everyones now buzzin on santini, his first run wasnt that bad at all he done everything wrong beating a good horse this is a serious stayer and 10/1 EW is huge!

I’m definitely not buzzing on Santini.

He did well today, receiving 2lb from BDM, and is in the mix, for sure.

I will watch back on tv when a I get home from Chelters to more, but at the moment it didn’t strike me as a huge Gold Cup winning “come and get me” performance. Maybe after next weekend it may look different, on reflection.

Not convinced he can win GC but on a personal note I’m pleased he did as found a bet yesterday in an account I’d forgot about that I placed after end of Cheltenham last year that was a santini 16/1 and envoi Allen 14/1 double. He will need to improve though significantly in my opinion to get anywhere near winning

To be honest I normally only bet with 365. Last year I opened a few for the offers that I hadn’t used since. This bet was with hills and hadn’t used this account since. Forgot password etc. Reset password and found 2 open bets that I’d placed end of last festival. I know I’d got some with 365 obviously but thought that was it. It was only small stakes but a nice surprise

I’m a bit like yourself in that I predominantly use Bet365 and Hills. Occasionally I use my Ladbrokes/Betfred accounts and see a bet I had forgotten about.

I think the Gold Cup market is a bookmakers paradise. Plenty of single figures about horses you could make cases for and against.

In the context of winning a Gold Cup I am not sure what Santini achieved yesterday. Those on his side will point to the distance back to the third but the reality is it was testing conditions and nothing in behind is going to go close in a Gold Cup. It was good because it was much better than Sandown. Anything had to be better than that.

I would be concerned that De Boinville had to cajole him along the whole way. How easy is that going to be against better horses and in a bigger field when you perhaps don't have daylight in front of you?

Those on his side are more likely to point to the horse that was 2nd to him, the Gold Cup 3rd, which puts him only a few lengths behind the winner Al Boum Photo.

How far behind the others were just lends itself to those to running to their marks, rather than being 'the point'.

That wouldn't concern me as much as it used to, having seen Davy Russell ask Lord Windemere for effort for an entire circuit.

I'd say that it's a safe assumption the horse is quite lazy and needs encouraging, and Nico would be one of the better jockeys at that... like Dickie Johnson would be, or AP would have been on him.





I've found myself knocking Santini when he was popular, and now defending him whilst he's not... says more about me than Santini :highly_amused:

I'm often guilty of reading form literally and whilst it's been a while since I re-watched last years Gold Cup Santini didn't meet either of the last two yesterday on a stride, probably costing him 3+ lengths which brings the BDM yardstick bang together with ABP.
At 9/2 and 7/1 I'd say Hendos horse represents much better value.

As someone who sits on a 40/1 voucher (and I'm sure there are others) I want to believe Santini can win and yesterdays performance did nothing to suggest he can't, I was quite vocal in the aftermath of his RSA but disappointingly every multi I had him included Gypsy Island or Buveur D'Air so the jackpot has gone...

It alboum photo just runs to previous form. He'll be gone before santini stays on. Theres no way santini can lay up with him. Hed have to tie up on the run in, which hes never done before .

Santini jumping poorly when jumping at pace should be a worry more than an excuse no?

BDM came to a virtual stop when he pecked after the 3rd last which would easily counteract it.

Santini was also in receipt of 2lb which is a negative.

Just watched the race back from yesterday.

Have to say I think Santini will be a huge player for this. He does look a slow old boat but he will gallop all the way to that line that’s for sure. The gallop yesterday by BDM and the likely pace for this will surely suit him perfectly. He looks as though he takes a while to get going and if he’s able to keep the pace will definitely keep plugging away. That mistake at the second last should have ended in defeat, but he kept going battled back and galloped up the hill to win.

Stayers win gold cups and he certainly a proper stayer. Obviously the problem with this race and has been all season is there is no generous prices so trying to back up horses with a bet in mind is hard.
