Cheltenham Festival Handicaps

Boredom has taken me to have a look at the CLose Brothers Handicap and i was very taken with Hells Kitchen, pulled the hands off for most of the race and still was bang there cruising near the finish when emptying in the final 2 furlongs. 12/1 looks a decent price.
big field will help him settle the bit as well

The big field and likely faster pace should help but I'd be slightly concerned by his absence since November and lack of experience. He has only had one chase start and only four starts in his whole career. On the plus side he does have a chase rating of 139 so he'd make the cut.

He got to 139 over hurdles so going to be dependent on what side of the bed Phil gets out of but an interesting shot.

He has an official chase rating of 139 too which was published 31st January. He must have been entered somewhere and pulled before the final decs.

Ivanovich Gorbatov

Ivanovich Gorbatov

It looks like Ivanovich Gorbatov could be going for the County. What could he be carrying in this being last years Triumph winner?
25/1 nrnb.

I.V. Is rated 148 by Noel oBrien. Wouldn't have thought this years performances merited a higher mark in the U.K.

Almost without exception they get at least 5lbs more than their Irish rating so he'll surely be on 153 at best.

does anyone know when the handicap entries come out/cut-off dates for handicap entries
TIA

Next week are the entries Doc - weights announced the week after

Not sure if has been mentioned but does anyone know if Hargam is County bound ?
Dropping down the weights like a stone which suggests a plot, 40/1 looks massive.
This race normally goes to young unexposed horses and Hargam doesn't fit that description but already 11lb lower than his rating after last years Champion hurdle and sure to drop further after last weeks betfair hurdle, if he were to get into this off around 144, good enough for around 11st or a little more....

De name escapes me is much shorter than Hargam isty so bookies must think he's more likely for the county, plenty of time for that to change though

That makes sense FM but he's usually happy firing several darts at the same target....

One of the most obvious rides to get a horse dropped this year?

Will be another over bet JP plot job? ... they could have a thread on their own. :devilish:

I've climbed aboard the Hargam ship today. He has been dropped 6lbs to a mark of 140 after the betfair hurdle - seems very generous to me.

I've backed him for both the county hurdle and coral cup at big prices.

Weights released Wed 1 March, can anyone confirm this ?

Hargam is the horse that they've ALWAYS said needs better ground isn't he? That 3rd in the Triumph seems a long time ago now and he's clearly below graded level, but 140 is quite fair. I'd be slightly worried that he has run his race every time and just doesn't look good enough. At the prices though, if I am right in thinking the ground is really important for him, this looks a nice punt (or two)

It's either the 1st or 2nd March - not sure which. I always thought it was a Thursday, which would make it the 2nd.

It seemed to suggest in this weeks Weekender that Harrington would keep Don't Touch It for Fairyhouse and Punchestown again.

Does anyone have any views on Diego du Charmil for the County. I have it on my shortlist notes and i cant for the life of me remember why. Also have Ivanovich and Hargam written down too. Those 2 i know why i wrote down but diego im at a blank.

No reason I can see to put you off Diego Du Charmil, course form, he either runs absolutely shocking (albeit 2 of them runs were at Ascot, which I find things happen pretty quickly there, so maybe a possible reason) or brilliantly, lightly raced, won 3 from 6 so 50% win rate, will likely get Good ground which seems to be required, a lot going for him IMO.
