Cheltenham 2020 - Ante post bets

Not sure if anyone else here is but I will be at the showcase at Cheltenham on October 26th and that had a few good ones come out of it last year. Elixir De Nutz and Thomas Darby to name a couple. Will report back...

Bet365 have a horse called Zero Ten listed in their Champion Bumper market, 200/1

A Toronado descendant currently in Aus that has finished dead last in all three runs over 5f. Is there another horse by this name or is this the most left field request a bet ever seen?

Pretty sure it will be the horse who's been on the go with Emmet Mullins . 7 next year so won't be eligible anyway .

Too early to worry about things like that, back what you think, and most importantly keep an eye on the odds off PP/ BFSB. And you wont go far wrong.

Spot on. Matt Tombs highlighted following the PP / BFSB prices when I was part of his syndicate. They are currently 7/2 and 15/4 respectively, as opposed to best price 6/1 elsewhere.

If CPS lives up to the hype I would struggle to see them go for the Ryanair when Mullins hasn't won the Champion Chase. Then again I didn't see the Vautour GC/Ryanair switch coming - I'd be looking to lay some off if targets aren't fairly clear and the price is right.

As it’s Mark Howard’s livelihood to produce these books, I think it’s only fair that large amounts of information are not shared here. The outlay for the book is reasonable and has received many positive endorsements from posters who purchase it every year.

I concur, I think we had a similar discussion about closing a thread about the books last year

Its the sort of bet you do and then forget about till February next year, but I've added Any Second Now @ 22/1 to win any race with Hills.

I think its quite a straightforward bet. Even at this relatively early stage you would expect connections to aim him for a second tilt at Kim Muir. I am sure they already have a plan hatched to get his mark down to 145 or less. I really like the way he won the Kim Muir. Finished his race off powerfully and he's still relatively unexposed over the 3 mile trip. No reason to think he won't come back even better and stronger as an 8 year old, and he will probably secure the services of a top amateur like Derek O'Connor.

The main risk, other than the obvious of not qualifying or getting injured (just those 2 small things :)), is Ted Walsh has said 'he might be a horse for a National one day', so missing Cheltenham all together would be in the back of your mind. It doesn't worry me too much though. He's only 8 next year so they may decide to give him some more experience over fences and aim him at the National when he is 9, like they did with Sunnyhillboy. I am quietly confident all roads lead to the Kim Muir. Ted Walsh has a nostalgic connection with the race having won it twice as a rider in the 70's on Castleruddery and Prolan.

I doubt they’ll get his mark back down personally- but it’s possible
Rated 150 in Ireland now
Might need three bad runs
And the uk lad could easily give it 146 for laugh
Having said that. You’d have the Tuesday race to fall back on
So it’s not a bad call I reckon.

Mention of the Kim Muir had me think of Cheltenham’s decision on replacing one of the current races with the Mares Chase for the March 2021 Festival.

Any news on when this choice would be made?

I was wondering whether the decision for the following year, would be made before or after the March 2020 Festival.

I have no idea although I'm sure someone will. Will worry about that on March 15th!

Just in case anyone not aware
B365
If you try and place a bet antepost and it gets referred to the traders.
If they accept it then cash out is disabled.
It gives you the option to refer it or not.
But once accepted it’s not available to cash out.
At least not for me on two bets out of last 6 or so I’ve made.
Just a heads up for anyone who’s not aware this might happen and would want the cash out option

Think it’s just a time delay Q, been referred plenty and can cash out everything at the moment

Either that or it could be dependent on an individuals use of cash out, as to whether they want to offer it to you or not. It's not compulsory so I suspect some punters probably have restrictions with it.

I’ve got roughly 16 bets with cash out available at minute
And 2 without- both referred others weren’t
One a week old and one from yesterday.
But placed bets in between that are cash out able.
So who knows

Backed defi du seuill
King George and gold cup double
See no massively obvious reason why it’s assumed he’ll stay over shorter this season
Won over 2m and a half on soft ground on stiffish tracks against stayers.
Just don’t make sense that lost in translation is so much shorter
Already backed for king George 33-1ew few months back.

Cue stable tour saying they’re aiming at the champion chase or Ryanair :)

More stamina in defi breeding than kemboy from my untrained eye
Surely connections must have seen kemboy improve and had a thought at least

Just received me Paul Ferguson book today weekend sorted. Will order Mark Howard OJA over the weekend.

No reason it's not possible but don't see it myself. Hobbs said “Most Triumph Hurdle winners end up wanting three miles but he’s got plenty of pace". I agree and think of him as a small speedy chaser type, that was able to beat stayers over 2m5f on soft ground on stiff tracks precisely because of his speed. Pre-Cheltenham they were weighing up Arkle or JLT. Post Cheltenham Hobbs was undecided about future plans but nominated next year’s Ryanair Chase or Champion Chase (if ground was testing) as options. I know connections only had two options in going up or down at Punchestown, but they opted to go down. All points to 2m/2m5f next season for me, but you could be right and he's a big price for GC.

Re Lostintranslation, connections said the Gold Cup is the plan off the back of hacking up in a Grade 1 over 3m beating RSA winner comfortably. That, plus the comments and actions of DDS connections, explain the discrepancy in price

350-1 worth a stab
Hobbs comment can be taken in many ways
They went down in trip at punchestown largely to find out how useful he’d be at 2 and Hobbs also mentioned the lack of competition in that race vs the longer version.
Can definitely see them going for king George
Maybe amlyn Chase first

Great price to find out.

365 usually have cash-out on all my antepost bets, but at the moment I have about half without cash-out.

That includes both a £1 AP Canadian and a £1 AP Heinz where I did have cash-out until the first one to run was Logician in the St Leger at 14/1. I hoped to have an increased cash-out position on those post-race, but they have got blanked out cash-out at the moment.
