Cheltenham 2020 - Ante post bets

Are fences a target or are they just throwing options out there ?
Making the switch is only worthwhile if you have a plan, and I’m struggling to see where she would target if fences were her future.
Surely she won’t have the speed for a Champion Chase and questionable whether she’d stay a Gold Cup trip, so would the long term aim be a Ryanair where connections already have Min ?

Sounds like another Vroum Vroum Mag where they don’t know so could enter the horse in every race they allowed to, making her as a punting proposition near impossible...

Yeah very true.

I wanted VVM to go back over fences too - but I completely understand why they won't.

Worth noting that Mullins said this after her Mares Hurdle win in 2018

March 2018
..."Ruby was brilliant on her but she only just got home. She really needs a trip and will go way back up in trip and back over fences now

Then at the start of the following year:

November 2019
Benie could do anything. She is a fantastic jumper. We would love to go chasing with her, but what I want to do is keep her for the mares' hurdles. I think she might mix it a little bit. We kept her sound all last year and I think she is probably easier to keep sound over hurdles. The Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham would, in my view at the moment, be her aim, unless something changes in the meantime

So she hasn't yet gone over fences and kept at the same distance for the Spring festivals, though did go up to 3m1 in France last time out. I have no doubt they'd still love to go back over fences with her in an ideal world but her fragility, and the past evidence of how they campaign their mares lead me to be almost certain it won't happen for all it would be great to see.

The above isn't a knock on him just i'm taking the recent comments as Willie just throwing a few ideas around contemplating options like he often does. Like I said and agree with Ista I would really see it as either looking to exploit a lower chase mark or targeting a few Mares only races aka VVM - not an indication of where she will end up next Spring / longterm

Jono

Any more quotes from Nov 2019 ?
I’m hoping you can pull something out that references the Eclipse, Galway, Derby and Leger winners plus a few from Royal Ascot and a nice yankee from Goodwood.

On a serious note, anything Mullins says comes with a health warning, he is a genius but has to accommodate so many top class horses and I doubt Ricci will want Min and BDD taking each other on for a Ryanair

Suprised no one has said anything about Interconnected on here yet.I see sky bet has him at 16/1 anyrace but was thinking of getting a price for the spud race.

Bought as being a future Gold Cup horse in mind - would suggest to me he's a chasing type.... if he gets beaten as a hurdler they might not care and that'd put me off for next season.

Could well start shorter though with the price tag around his neck.

Promising horse, but not sure other than the price tag what the huge appeal would be (price tags mean nothing ofc) Decent debut, but was getting weight from Emitom and he probably goes into training with Kirby- who doesn't exactly bang in the festival winners for all he's capable.

I think gypsy island could turn out very good over hurdles and could be a short one for mares novice just depends on what comes from
France

Once again I’ve some how ended up with the Mares Novice being my early leader for most bet race with Gypsy Island and Princess Vega!

Yes and National hunt chase carefully selected is the early selection for that

Strange to see Wicklow Brave make his debut chasing this evening at Ballinrobe, he’s a 10 year so not sure what the plan is for him? I didn’t watch the race but just saw the result and he won. Anyone know what the plan is for him?

Only three AP bets struck so far which is poor from me......Paisley Park and E D'Allen for repeats and Benie for redemption in Mares. No way will she go any other race. Might be wrong but can't think of Mullins ever running a Mare v Boys in a chase in this country ??

A possibility she would run in the Stayers Hurdle though. Annie Power did (albeit different circumstances)

Can't see past Paisley Park in Stayers. Multiple winner in waiting.

Question to the people who look into the breeding of racehorses. Is there anything in the breeding of Tornado Flyer that says JLT?

Might be worth hovering over hipsters (25/1 for the triumph hurdle) who runs today at auteuil.
He looks very nice to my eye.
Purchased alreadg prior to the race by JP to be kept with maccaire, who himself has already mentioned he could travel him over.

....something clearly amiss with the horse, hope it was a precaution as opposed to something serious.

Hopefully nothing too serious but always a wrong when pulled up sharply

Hope so too. Atleast the jockey spotted it early and took no chances.
hopefully he'll be seen on the track again as been really impressed with his 2 wins so far.

The JLT could definitely be a likely target indeed. By Flemensfirth you’d expect middle distances at least although his profile is a bit strange on the dam side. As Mullins ran him over two and a half at Punchestown I’d expect that to be an indicator that he’ll be going out in distance next season.

May have already been discussed? But does anybody know anything about Eleonore D’apsis for Willie and Ricci? Left France last May after one win in France but yet to be sighted. Time to settle and fill out I guess
