Cheltenham 2019 Ante-Post bets

I see Lethal Steps is showing as the most backed horse on oddschecker for the triumph, looks like hes gone to Gordon Elliott but no mention of him on the stable tour, has anyone heard anything?

He was mentioned in the Betfair stable tour

Lethal Steps
He cost a lot of money at the sales during the summer but I'm hoping he will be worth it. He was bought as a dual purpose prospect and the hope is that he will make up into a quality juvenile hurdler before we revert to the flat for some big handicaps. He showed some very smart form as a two-year-old for Ger Lyons and he also showed up well in a couple of good races this year - finishing fifth in the Derrinstown Derby Trial and fourth in a Newmarket Listed race. His profile suggests that he should make up into a quality hurdler.

Personally I prefer the profile of Coeur Sublime who also came from the flat and was trained by Peter Fahey. He said that if the horse didn't sell then he'd go juvenile hurdling anyway. He won his maiden impressively and the second horse is now rated over 100 and was favourite for the Cesarewitch.

Having spent the last few months concentrating on building up a football index portfolio (highly recommend if you haven't checked it out already) it's about time attention turned to the festival!

Just had a look through all the threads and most people far more knowledgeable than me, some great shouts already. I was waiting for nrnb to get most of my book on, but can't resist having a few on early.

I'm trying to be more controlled this year and two races i'm willing to leave alone completely are the supreme and rsa (I say this now but bet i get dragged in). The supreme has been poor for me the last couple of years and looks open again, the rsa there must be value with santini too short but there are so many quality novice chasers that go jlt/rsa that i'm happy to wait on those races til we see some horses out.

The ones that jump out at me for this year are samcro for the arkle, apples jade for the stayers, tiger roll for the cross country.

I've got Samcro to win the arkle now in multiple doubles so that's by far my biggest ante post gamble. They bought him to be a chaser, everything about him screams chaser, all comments from previous years indicate he will go chasing. I would be pretty surprised if they now made the decision to keep him hurdling, it would have a detrimental effect on his chasing career to keep him over hurdles for another season, agewise as much as anything else. It's not as if the champion hurdle is a penalty kick in any way - Laurina could be anything, and I expect a sharper Buveur D'air this year. Samcro would have to be some horse to outpace Buveur D'air over 2m hurdles given all previous comments are about him being a chaser in the making and a potential gold cup horse. If Samcro goes chasing then the most winnable race is also the most prestigious race. If Elliot thinks he has the pace for a champion hurdle then why would they go further than 2m over fences in his first season, especially when that race looks the most winnable at this stage. If he runs in the arkle i'd be almost 100% confident he wins it, if he runs in the champion hurdle no more than 50%.

I just get the feeling Apples Jade will have a pop at the stayers this year. With Willie likely sending one of his big guns for the mares hurdle I think connections may as well train her for the stayers. If they do so it could eke out some improvement, not that much is needed anyway on a line through Supasundae.

Tiger Roll is just the bet of the festival for me, odds of 5/1 entirely fair. Trained for this race as a priority, kept fresh, i don't think we'll see him as big as 5/1 at any point now before the off

In addition to Umndeni who's inability to jump hurdles means I have likely already done my doe there are two other novice hurdler recruits from smaller stables I have my eye on, both entered for the same race at Cheltenham this Friday. The horses in question are Olly Murphy's Brewin'upastorm and Tom Lacey's Sebastopol. Both horses are highlighted in OJA and JTF as top prospects for the season having won their sole bumper starts stylishly last season.

I expect to back both this week for at least a point in the any race market (both 22s boosted with Hills) and use this week's free bets on Sebastapol for the Supreme (top price 33s) and Brewin'upastorm (top price 33s) for the Ballymore, the latter as mentioned on that thread has already been nibbled at for that race over the last week

Brewin'upastorm entered up on friday at cheltenham 4-55 race. R.C.

Two of my favourite horse shave been given an update on by Harry Drew on Twitter

Moon Racer goes over 3 miles, most of us have the belief that the bumper is won by stayers, while long overdue could this be the making of him? A dark horse for the Pertemps? (We all know Pipe shudders at the idea of trying to win a graded race)

Un Temp Pour Tout could take on the Charlie Hall, but key bit for me was “he will stay 3m chasing whether it’s graded or handicaps” so avoided the question of the National which means I’ll keep my powder dry on the nash for a while

Welcome back Rob.
I do think unfortunately the market is speaking heavily to suggest Samcro is staying over hurdles...

I like the idea of Apple''s Jade going for the stayers, I'm mulling over that idea in my head before I make a case.

And feel free to start a thread about the football index in the other part of the forum. I'd be interested to read about it

Not a huge market by any stretch but a bit of money for her for the Mares' on the exchanges. £278 matched @ 6/1, seems a ludicrous price tbh!

Cheers Kev. Though the market is speaking that way I think that's largely based on Elliott stating that he wants him in the champion hurdle. You can see why he would want a live chance in that, but i'm certain there is absolutely no decision made as yet. You would think that O'Leary will ultimately have the final say and he has always seen him as a chaser. I can't see them forgoing his chasing career which is effectively what they're doing if he stays over hurdles this year - he'd likely be 9 by the time he takes in a gold cup if he switches to fences next season and I just don't see his career as a crack 2 mile hurdler. Time will tell but thought it worth the risk he goes the arkle, i'll be in a great position with my book if so and not a massive amount lost if not.

Will put something up about the football index over the next couple of weeks... it's a flegdling platform but gaining quite a bit of traction now, massive potential

Hard to say, HF. You'd say he wouldn't be a thorough stayer but Willie wouldn't usually differ much in his preparation for Supreme or Ballymore.

Added Delta Work 'any race' today, boosted price with WH.

I have just gone back in on Delta Work and also on Champagne Classic. Both 16's without the boost

Donn McClean on the Matchbook Podcast this week is very keen on Delta Work this season. Gave him as his progressive horse for the season. Tom Stanley and Rory Delarghy also gave their horses to follow in the following categories.

Well worth a listen - the best national hunt preview i've heard so far this season for sure.

Class Horse:

DM : Balko des Flos
RD : Saint Calvados (...Kev ;))
TS : Vinddication

Progressive Horses:

DM : Delta Work
RD : Discorama
TS : Ballymoy

Dark Horses:

DM : Call it Magic
RD : Now McGinty
TS : Garrettstown

Entered up Sunday

Same race Presenting Percy started his novice chase campaign off in and winning of course.

Be interesting to see which of the Gigginstown runners currently entered take their chance.

Call it Magic is a strange pick for a dark horse, considering he ran in an Irish national last season. :devilish:

I'll give it a listen. :encouragement:

So is Vinndication as a class horse... he'd have been allowed as 'progressive' surely.

I'll give it a listen, is it a good one. I like Donn and Rory and Tom Stanley to be fair (have they binned Emmet Kennedy)?

Are with thinking Vinndication is more likely to end up in the JLT chaps ?
