Cheltenham 2017 Antepost Bets

The Tizzard horse looked good today at Hereford, Finian's Oscar.

Anyone see it?

Neptune/Albert Bartlett worthy?

He was purchased recently at the Cheltenham sales for £250K (second highest lot) and seems to have a lofty reputation already within the yard. On breeding I'd have thought the Neptune but I'd need to see the race.
===========

Setting aside issues relating to the King George (Thistlecrack runs!), Colin Tizzard has another reason to think of this as a big day. Finian’s Oscar (1.05) makes his debut for the Dorset trainer in a novice hurdle at Hereford, having been bought for £250,000 at auction last month.

Tizzard teased the press about this horse when we visited his yard last Wednesday. Naming various animals as they whizzed past us on his uphill gallop, the trainer said at one point: “Royal Vacation, Alary, best young horse I got, Tom O’Brien on the back one ...”

Uh, Colin, what was that about the best young horse you’ve got? “Oh, I thought you’d missed that,” he said, smiling. “Can’t remember his name. I’ll tell you when he’s won.”

Groping for a way to identify the beast, I asked Tizzard if he knew its pedigree. “Yes, I do,” he replied, cheerily. “We bought him the other day. He’s raced once and won, in an Irish point. I don’t want to hinder him with too much pressure but he’s a beautiful horse.”

It became clear that we weren’t going to get a name, so someone asked about another horse and the conversation moved on. I found out later that we’d been talking about Finian’s Oscar and today we’ll see whether all this preamble is leading anywhere interesting.

I did see that JM, impressive as it was I can't understand why he sent the horse to Hereford which is the almost polar opposite of Cheltenham.
Amazing how Tizzard has suddenly become the most fashionable trainer around, great for the game

Maybe trying to play down the hype ?

Not sure how much people buy in to / care about PP pricing up Mullins runners, but they've had a significant switch in target regarding the CH and Mares. Having previously been BIGGEST price about Faugheen (CH) AND BIGGEST price about Annie (Mares) they're now considerably shorter...

6.56/1 the double with PP
Sky best prices 19.63/1

Of course, neither may get there... I've been of the opinion that Annie Power will turn up in the CH, but I'll back this as a 'saver' at least.... it is the kind of obvious double on the day but I doubt you'd get better than 3/1 on the day

Thanks Kev - is strange how they have cut both given the various rumours but 19/1 is more than fair and worth chancing they go down that route.

Could be all smoke and mirrors but I just KNOW I'd end up backing 'the double' anyway, whoever turned up, so I don't mind backing them at bigger prices now.

Just noticed this on sky's specials..

W Mullins To Train The Winners Of The Supreme/Arkle/Champion Hurdle + Mares Hdl At the 2017 Chelt Festival 12/1

Seems value to me assuming the big guns come back..

Ooosh, don't know if I agree with that being value. His shortest Supreme dart is 10s at the moment with no guarentee at all in that race that you'll even have a favourites chance. Granted there is NO stand out anywhere in the Supreme at the moment but I'd want 12/1 for Mullins to win the Supreme :devilish:, let alone beating Altior in the next race!

I'm with Kev - I'd want 33/1. Even the Mares race will be tough for him to win this season with Apples Jade in the line up.

I may be interpreting the text incorrectly then. I'd read the slashes as winner of any of those races plus the winner of the mares. There are other options of special bets with lists that contain commas, hence why I thought it was value.

Ah yes, I see what you mean... if it did mean MARES AND (Supreme OR Arkle OR CH) then 12/1 would be a magnificent price. Too good to be true moment :heart-borken:

Confirmed by SKYBET - it's a winner from either supreme, arkle or champion plus the mares hurdle.

Tempted now?

Very tempting! Now that is value.

I'm amazed at the price - thanks for sharing Rowebot

More than anything ever... that is a MENTAL price..... 12/1 for the CH and Mares alone would be worth 12/1 wouldn't it?!

How did they confirm it Rowe? Did you ask them/email?

No problem - subtle differences in how they have laid out the bets

I've just had £30 on it..

Incredible.

The combinations of ante post prices you can get just working on the CH and Mares are 11/1-13/1 etc... to elimate the 'who' is worth it alone for me...

I feel like I am getting 12/1 for Mullins to win the Mares hurdle ..... I am trying to work out the negatives. I can't.

You need to get that confirmed in writing Rowebot. The way I read it is he needs to train the winner of all 4 races.

Luke S: Okay looking into this for you, you are correct it is one of those 3 races as well as the mares.

That's what I got from Sky. Somebody else ask the same question?

I've sent you my details Rowebot.... this is exciting.

Somewhat ironically, the winnings from VVM that I have today are just sat waiting to be used .... :triumphant:
