Champion Hurdle 2020

I see Buveur D'air has jack all to beat in the Fighting Fifth. Bit embarrassing for a G1 tbh.

Especially when you consider how brilliant (on paper beforehand) last year’s race looked with Samcro v Buveur D’Air v Summerville Boy.

The 2017 edition was really poor and pretty much comparable to this year.

A bit harsh I feel, the 3rd from last years champion is in there with a run under his belt, where he returned better than ever when hammering grand sancy and itchy feet, he may not have a "sexy" trainer, but hes a very nice horse. People are backing the hendo trained fusil raffles for the champion who had life and death with grand sancy. Yet have no respect for a horse who hosed up against him.

Wouldn't be certain he was better than ever- suppose it was probably his best reappearance ever.

15.5ls in 3rd of 7, not sure it's that harsh to be uninspired by the race.

It's more an indicator of the 2m division in general.

For all everyone crabbed Elliot leaving Samcro in 2m hurdles last year, something to be commended in my book (for all it didn't work out). The division is bang average + not many are keeping their horses in it, rather go over fences.

I mean if you're taking the form literally then what about Beat The Judge, 2nd to Silver Streak, only 8 lengths behind off levels, but over 15 lengths behind Fusil Raffles getting 3lbs. Grand Sancy also had a run under his belt before taking on Fusil, not that I think Fusil will be winning any CH anytime soon either though. Grand Sancy was also giving Silver Streak 6lbs. I don't think any of the previously mentioned would get any closer than SS did last season to winning a CH myself.

It's a crap renewal, and I am now thankful Gordon and co didn't bottle last season, at least they had the balls to make it a good race.

Ok silver streak the champion 3rd is a crap horse. You know best.

Bit childish.

Just my opinion! As per the case above.

FWIW I didn't say he was crap!

Common sense applies, when silver streak is a progressive 6yo and a better 2m hurder than samcro and summerville boy, who were in last years renewal. Other than buveur d'air silver streak has shown the best 2 mile form on the uk and comes in race fit. Yet because hes not trained by hendo or Mullins, and doesn't have the hype of samcro, he's "crap" opposition.

Alright stroppy :devilish:

I have an annoyance for horses not getting the credit because there not in the right colours, or with hendo/ mullins.
Its not a vintage CH , but a race fit silver streak is good opposition relative to what's about.

And I wasn't the one who brought Silver Streak into the argument, you did, I said it was a crap renewal, and I stand by that.

Official ratings last season, 169, 160, 156, 152 & 150

This seasons race, 167, 154, 148, 146, 142, 139 & 127 - the only reason I see a 127 rated animal racing in it is because they can pick up some decent G1 prize money due to a lack of opposition

Maybe it's just a crap, early season race tbh, and we was spoilt last season

When you look at last year's Champion i suppose it's hard to see what people expected from the entries. Absolute car crash of a race. Ireland 4 of the 7 finishers.
It still is a crap race and the 2mile division is in tatters.

If you beat silver streak convincingly, your in the money in the champion itself.

In total agreement

However I love Silver Streak
What a servant to Evan Williams
Just check Race record

The 2m hurdle division is woeful, because nobody really cares about the CH.:devilish:

HF wasn't happy I rate the Arkle over the CH ..... yet we're discussing horses like Silver Streak (not kncoking him, just an example) in here and commending Samcro for giving it a go.:disgust:

Good God, Samcro giving the CH a go was the biggest waste of a season ever. Boo you Jack :p

Buveur D'air sets the standard and he's just good. That's it, a good horse.

This division has been rubbish since Hurricane Fly won in it.

Faugheen was a complete anomaly and should have been chasing but Vautour blocked his path :very_drunk: I'm convinced NH racing would have been better if he went chasing.... ultimately, Annie Power could have been racing in the CH and done fine, while she was fannying about over staying hurdle trips and falling against inferior horses, as she went on to prove!

There's not many races you do like is there Kev? :devilish:

Haha :highly_amused:

I love them all really, but just because you enjoy something doesn't mean it can't be improved...

I enjoyed them removing the Charity race on the Thursday for the Mares Novice hurdle.... even though I'd prefer not to have that race....

As Ista has said, it is inevitable we end up at 5 days, and I'll still enjoy the week more than anything.... but it doesn't mean it's improved.
