They all looked like handicappers that were entered against Laurina and would have ruined marks if getting anywhere near,
no surprise the other two pulled out on roughly the same ground as when declared.
they may have had to pay connections of sensulano to run in the end,

Who would bother sending their Mare against Laurina though? I'm surprised the other one stood it's ground, but fair play, as that one absolutely hated the ground too.

My point was in relation to ITV showing the race, hardly their fault it turned into a 2horse race.

I'd rather see Laurina today in a 2 horse 'race' than a competitive all-weather Lingfield 0-90 handicap though :p

They show BDA run vs FA in that race same weekend as the DRF....hardly a great race either.

And I said exactly the same then. I'm not digging out Laurina, just pointing out that it wasnt worth a slot on terrestrial TV. It's hardly going to get people into the sport watching a 2 runner no contest.

People will be more inclined to see a good horse than competitive bad ones though?

Has to be a happy medium, they could remove all the graded races and we could watch handicaps all day (and while I'm sure that'd appeal to some) I prefer to see the elite.

I don't enjoy all weather, class 6 handicaps as much as I would enjoy the narrative of Laurina running today.

I do see your point, I just don't know what the alternative would be, other than just "less races of all kinds" so more horses have to run...... but that isn't certain to work.

The last point is exactly what I would do. There is far too much racing at the moment and not enough good horses to go round.

Nail on the head here. It'll obviously be to the detriment to some racetracks but the racing calendar in the UK needs a dramatic change. Would solve a lot of the problems that racing currently faces

i totally agree, A 2 horse race and a 48L cruise. Could of stayed at home and done that and probably gained as much.

Whilst we learned nothing apart from her well being...you can never replicate everything surrounding a day at the races at home.

I know she didn’t have to go at any pace at all but she’ll have to jump slicker surely in the CH. BVD pings those faces when he’s flying

Yeah, Faugheen the only standout exception to that in my time.

I wouldn't know anything before Rooster Booster really in terms of how 'slick' they we're.

Laurina hasn't proved she can hurdle slickly yet, but she hasn't really had the chance too, if you're being fair.

Anyone fancy anything as an each way bet for this? Other than a few multiples with Buveir D’Air in and a decent double with Altior, I’be no angle at all for this.

Buveir D’Airs loss at Christmas makes him no bet as a single for me. No value at that short price after a loss.

Laurina is too short as a single.

I did have If The Cap Fits each way at 33s with some free bets from the start of the season but I doubt he will run here now.

Any each way value lads?

Melon still 10/1 is the one now for me, don't know if that is too small for you for an each way play.

Can't help you with an each way angle MoM but can confirm ITCF's definitely won't run. Owned by The Rooneys and Fry said this on the same day in his blog:

If The Cap Fits ran well in the Christmas Hurdle, but he clearly needs more of a stamina test. He got slightly outpaced down the back straight before turning in and then just stayed on.

We know for sure now that he needs stepping up in trip and the Aintree Hurdle is the big spring target. He won’t be entered at Cheltenham.

How do you rate Melon's form with Sharjah's?

Melon's best form is the 2nd behind Buveur D'air, but with a line through Mick Jazz, is that safer to use knowing Buveur D'air may not have been at a high level?

Sharjah's so in and out it makes it so tough.

I'm not on Melon, I'm hoping he gets to 16/1 at some point, but probably unlikely.

It was Melon's first run of the season, so I wouldn't take that at face value.

IF Buveur D'air is not at a high level he shouldn't be a top price of 6/4 favourite for the race, given he has been beat by Verdana Blue this season, again, form that has to be questioned. Melon's best form is his neck to Buveur D'air, and it was certainly his best run all last season, he'll again be trained for this particular race and nothing else this season IMO, and with just a neck to find 10/1 over 6/4 for a neck is value for me.

I wasn't initially thinking Melon for this race as I expected better things from Samcro, but now I have Melon ahead I am happy to include him, and suprised, given the fade of both Samcro & Summerville Boy that he is still double figures.

I mean Melon's overall form, not just his first run this term.

I agree on 10/1 and 6/4, if they were both at the same form on the day, I can see it.

I just thought Sharjah is probably the one I'd side with over Melon... and if we believe Ruby, they're both playing second fiddle - but we all know her price is wrong :highly_amused:

Messy. I feel the bookies haven't taken any chances with Melon. I have really struggled for an angle in to the race though all summer

Melon will probably lose another race prior to the festival so could end up with a better price yet and just like last season the gamble will take place on the day for him all the while with the focus on Laurina.

10/1 is value as it is. 13.5 on the exchange. I think the price can drift a few more points. 16/1 would be a great bet.
