Champion Chase 2018

Its not that I am not impressed, it just a would get carried away with what he beat, everyone knows he is a very good horse maybe great, but in my eyes the QMCC was always going to be a two horse race and if Min and Altior is both on song.

Personally I think Min would have beaten the second without much trouble. .

Yes I remember you aren't keen on Politilogue, which is fair enough... but Altior has just beaten him on the bridle on his first run of the season... he's worth LOADS more than that... Min I assume would also beat Politilogue too... but not that easily.

I'd agree with the last Bit, but altior just does what he has to do and gets the job done. Regardless of opposition.

I agree you can only beat what is put in front of you, but he still needs to beat Min, If and when he does I will put my hands up and say he is one of the greats, but not until then...

Beating Min won't make him a great IMO.
He's already beaten Min by 7L when they met.
His beating of Special Tiara and Fox Norton as a novice in Open company are well clear of ANYTHING Min has achieved... and if he adds the Champion Chase, then he will be undoubtably the best 2 miler around.
Whether he goes on to be great or not is a different question.... if he reaches the heights that Sprinter Sacre did that'd be incredible!

If you took prices out of it, and you had Min, Altior, Special Tiara, Fox Norton, Ordinary World and Simply Ned in a race... you'd genuinly think Min would win that race?

I'm not so sure Min will go here after that performance.

Don't forget a fully fit Douvan..

All I am saying is that we know how good BVD and Alltior are, but Min was fav to beat them both in the Supreme and if your like me & do not think that RR is a lair then Min was not 100% after that race, then last year he was also backed to beat Altior again but got pulled out because he again got injured. RR also said Min would be a better chaser and again unto now he has not been proven incorrect.

So hopefully it will be a great race and may the best horse win, just a shame a fully race fit Douvan will not be there...

I also think Altior is a better chaser than he was a hurdler... so I don't like that being a positive for Min. IThey cancel each other out in that regarid.

If Douvan turned up I'd take it incredibly seriously... but as I said before,.... Altior and Douvan are a class above Min for me. Douvan would have plenty to prove though and I've always sided with Altior when before his Arkle win they were talking up the clash for this season... I'd love to see that, and I wouldn't be bullish either way. I'd just have to favour Altior on his prep compared to Douvans.

I don't think they'll avoid Altior based on that though... unless Douvan ran OR it was Heavy and UDS got drafted in... Min will be here?

I have not got much invested in Min so hopefully I am not just talking via my pockets..

We could debate who's going to beat who until the cows come home, hopefully in just over 4 weeks we will find out, fingers cross..

Has anybody read the Racing Post commentry on the app for Altior's win today..... I think they've been drinking:very_drunk:

??? why, that does not make sense..

I think Douvan will run so think it now less likely they will run two in the same race given how well Altior looked today and the comments they have been making about Min and the Ryanair. Ricci was mentioning it straight after Mins win last week.

Very impressive performance from Altior today, no sign of any rust whatsoever, he wins the Champion Chase now for me, fingers crossed Poli can run into a place I don’t think setting the pace today suited him but he was never beating Altior today in the form he was in

Just watched the race.

Blimey o Riley.

That's a few accas looking a bit stronger!

Superb from Altior.

Probably get slated for this in light of the above comments but I think Altior could get done for toe in a good ground Champion Chase. Think Min is a great bet to take this. Will get a good tow off Special Tiara again and cause a minor upset.

Altior (IRE) 4/1
Nico de Boinville Nicky Henderson
Travelled and jumped well, mid-division, headway after 5th, challenged after 2 out, ridden to lead before last, quickened clear, impressive (tchd 9/2 in places)

Min (FR) 15/8F
R Walsh W P Mullins
Tracked leader, mistake 3rd, challenged after 2 out, soon ridden, kept on but readily outpaced by winner (op 2/1 tchd 11/4 in places)

-------

Last time they met, Altior looked to have more toe than Min?

Min not !00% not my words

different race different year different fences

Exactly, Min travelled better to the turn than Altior despite what the race comments say.

A literal reading of that race obviously gives him no chance but he has certainly improved in the interim and was very impressive given how quickly Special Tiara went last week and how easily he tracked him.

Just my opinion that Altior will need further on good ground. If it turns up soft then this is a non issue but I think he will get found out on spring ground over 2 now he is a couple of years older.

Of course it is, but that isn't proof Min would have more toe? It just negates the point rather than proves it - so you've got nothing at all to base Min having more toe than Altior on?

Dangerous to say he travelled better IMO - I think the style of the jockeys is absolute stark contrast and Nico will push along long before RUby would dream of it... we can onl tell how a horse is travelling by looking at the jockey on top (bar them throwing their head around etc)?

I agree Altior may be better over further, and have said that previously. I think he'd win the Ryanair incredibly easily...but obviously don't want to see that.

Special Tiara wouldn't have liked the ground either so picking him up wouldn't have been as impressive as it perhaps looked?
