August ‘23 Yankee

JackieMoon33 Love your list and your input. Just curious why You Oughta Know isn't on it? I thought he looked very good beating Croke Park easily who has form with Barry The Butcher and He's My Hero.

I think archie is right in respect of the novice hurdle races being very tricky, you only have to look at last season's winners for that.
Most had barely been mentioned by now.
To be fair, neither had the novice chasers aside from El Fabiolo, and GDM.

The races to focus on should be the NH chase, triumph, arkle and maybe mares novice. (pretty sure Faugheen's big yankee win had at least 2 of these races and the gold cup included)

These are Probably the four novice races that the target is slightly easier to predict in most years. Unless you go for a horse like a dream to share where it looks fairly obvious at the moment.

Despite the current pricing, I’d only be interested in him for the AB. However, I also like to have a horse from a PTP background too. Certainly nothing wrong with him and it was impressive, but I’ve got to keep the list in check.

I’ll throw one in that I just want to get others opinions on really (feel free to move if this is the wrong thread for it). The way Dysart Enos tore the field apart at aintree really sticks in my mind but the form isn’t all that great looking back now is it? Fergal hasn’t trained a festival winner (correct me if I’m wrong) and the mares novice is always a tricky race even come the day but she will be held up off the pace you’d imagine and they often go too hard. Probably not one for the Yankee but I can’t work her out is 7/1 a good price? A terrible price? Or about right? If trained by Willie she’d be 3/1 but she’s not!

I thought she looked an impressive horse, but the price right now doesn't seem right.
It's hard to imagine a horse of that profile getting a great deal shorter, unless she wins some serious races in the UK as a hurdler before xmas, rather than listed mares novice stuff. Especially when novice mares will emerge in Ireland to hold the price up.
Could happen, but unlikely.
But I do like the horse's chances at this early stage, based on all known form on the track.

I think you’re better looking at her Market Rasen win for form purposes where she was trapped wide throughout and still came off the bend to pick up a horse (Queens Gamble) who had won the listed bumper at the November meeting.
She was impressive at Aintree and we won’t know how strong that form is for a while, it might not look great now but it could turn out to be OK.

I’m with Dysart Enos at 25/1 for the Mares novice, but I couldn’t back her now at 7/1, I fully expect Mullins or HDB to have one currently chewing grass that we haven’t seen who will prove to be better…

….not seeing nominations for any of the novices who have already made their way into our monthly Yankees. Not sure if this means they’re no longer popular but they are surely worth considering;

Stay Away Fay/Nick Rocket (BANC)
Maxuum,(NHC)
Brighterdaysahead (MNH)
Mister Policeman (Ark)

Chapeau de Soleil - Supreme
At 40/1 this one has to be value...

What am I missing? Hype horse from last season who never delivered, looks a difficult ride too. Rather back him at 10s after showing me something than wasting a pt now.

I'd be inclined to agree. Looks to have a big engine but he'll need more than that to reach the top.

Of the wpm’s Bumper horses I have backed a few anyrace cause I thinks some might go handicaping.

That could well be the case, but he suffered a setback and for much of the season it seemed he would not run again so his prep was about as bad as it could be.
The fact he went off at 40/1 for the Bumper tells me he was never going to be competitive and they were just using that race for experience, he didn't run afterwards either which I like to think confirms the point.
I got the impression they were minding him from that setback and when he appears again he'll be a different horse, that's assuming he is fully recovered/healthy.
It's a curveball option and not one that will appeal to everyone but he's 40/1 and 40/1 for a reason, but could easily be single figures after one run....

No. Last race/win was Longchamp in October but that form has been franked as Valiabad, who he beat, went on to romp home in his next.

….hopefully get MoM popping in over the next few days to give the August steer. The Novice selections seem popular but not set in stone yet if FJs think a hybrid approach might be the way to go.

From what I read, Champ Kiely and Mirazure West seem particularly popular.

We can firm things up in the next week or so, hopefully when MOM posts, in the meantime I’ll try and facilitate the discussion.

Surely Captain Teague for Ballymore has to be in the mix, course form already in the mix and with Nicholls it's likely to be the target. For a very early dart, can't go wrong.

Anyone got the Triumph nailed yet ?
I seem to remember Lossiemouth, Vauban and Quilixios were mentioned by this time.
Kotkijet has been instrumental in this division, hopefully he’ll be back soon with a nugget of two….
