Up and down mate. Had a horrendous week with a couple of things but nothing I can do now about either. Just have to keep going.

Inthepocket turners I do like. Salvador ziggy another I’m a fan of for the NH chase. Other two selections will be novices but that can be hurdling or chasing. One week left to decide.

….ha, ha, weirdly enough Dave was an old team mate of mine, our Dads travelled to away games together. In 1971 I scored 25 goals in 19 games for Liverpool Schoolboys whilst Dave scored 9. We both signed for Liverpool, he won a European Cup winners medal & i didn’t. He’s a good lad.

Terrific we have MoM back and looking like we have two definite selections with InthePocket (Turners) & Salvador Ziggy (NHC).

Hurdles look a bit of a minefield but it’d be good to include one, I personally like the shouts for Sandor Clegane (BANC); 16-1 365, 14-1 elsewhere.

Is he still alive ?
I read somewhere he had a stroke a while back, hopefully fully recovered and fit and well.
I reckon there’s only about half a dozen on FJ who would have understood my post, you were definitely one of the six…

….supersub Dave is still going although his wife passed away a few years ago.

…blast from the past for me, thanks for posting.

Ronnie Madine & Dave were friends. Ronnie was a fabulous midfielder, I was surprised he didn’t come through. Tom Saunders also signed me, never forget him coming to my school to ask the headmaster if he could take me to Anfield for the rest of that day. Tom ended up a very close assistant to Bob Paisley.

i also stayed on at school but to do A Levels. I stayed at Liverpool for 3 years but I had zero ambition to be a professional footballer. Scored some fine goals on some famous grounds & footy remained a big part of my life. Great memories.

Too many negatives for me.

Firstly, the injury. Do we know how bad it was? Do we even know if he's back in training?

Secondly, Sax's brilliant stat that no horse who missed the entirety of the previous season won at Chelts the next.

Thirdly, on breeding, it's a bit of an unknown as to how he might take to fences. I think he'll be fine, but combined with the above, I'd want a lot more than the 20/1 generally available.

100% agree. Although my yankee strategy is different to these threads, The Nice Guy wouldn't be on a shortlist with those risks attached. You could also argue that he may stick to hurdles which adds another variable.

Agree.

For me, if he did come back sound, he'd have Stayers written all over him. Willie won with Penhill after a year off so it can be done.
 
I would consider Affordable Fury for the BANC....

Placed horses in the A.Bartlett have a good record in the BANC
Sure there was talk of fences for next season
Would have thought a stayes campaign over hurdles unlikely given how far behind Gaelic Warrior he was at Punchestown.
I know Noel Meade doesn't send loads over but will obviously come with a good one.
Price is massive comapred to Stay Away Fay & Sandor Clegane.

Yes he would have to prove up to it, but I would say target far more certain than many others nearer the top of market.

Whilst the intention right now is for the final two selections to be novices, I’ve also seen plenty of talk of the Ryanair being a good inclusion this month.

If a consensus is agreed about one for the Ryanair (no idea who myself), I’d be open to having that race as one in.

But ideally we can find two more novices

I do like Saint Sam for the Ryanair. Seems to be on a very progressive curve and I know others on here have gone into much greater detail which caught my attention.

Depends how other feel though at the end of the day :eagerness:
 
….I think we should stay with the novice theme for this month.

We have selections for Turners (InthePocket) and NHC (Salvador Ziggy). I’d suggest we concentrate on picking the final two from;

BANC
Supreme or Ballymore.

There’s a few nominations for the BANC and I’d be with Sandor Clegane shouts. Picking a novice hurdler is a bit of a minefield but it’s risk/reward if we can find one. Mirazur West seems popular for the Supreme but there’s a few being highlighted elsewhere on the site - indeevar Blue 50-1 Supreme for me.


Worth noting (as per SWs diary), Salvador Ziggy currently declared to run on Saturday in a NHC trend race. If he runs, there might be a case for getting the selections agreed this week.

I had a free bet on sandor clegane yesterday

His breeding worries me with a view to chasing the flame and glorys can be very dodgy jumpers at worst or at best slow learners like flame bearer who took a good few runs to convince at the obstacles

Stage star did it I suppose but it's still a worry

sandor clegane is 17 hands though so certainly built like a chaser

But to me he was the moral winner of the bartlett

That he finished as close as he did gives me two ideas in my head, hes got a huge engine or it was a bad race
 
I think if we're looking at Sandor Clegane then we've got to be looking at charlie shout, Absolute Notions @ 50/1, for the BANC.

You have to forgive his Aintree run, but on his limited form I'd say he needs better ground, which is my only concern with him at this stage. He finished ahead of Sandor Clegane at Leopardstown over 2m6f, and nearly got up to beat Good Land that day. I'd say that was his real form.

His breeding is more reliable than that of Sandor Cleganes too, IMO, being by Milan, who has Santini & Monalee, who both placed in RSA's, as well as finishing close up in Gold Cups, to his name.

At the prices I'd only be siding one way, and this from someone who was a Sandor Clegane fan last season and put him up for the Bartlett on here at a big price.

I love him, but Aintree was such a disappointment though obviously ground related. I've actually a nice double of 33/1 x2 for the two mentioned above, AB for BANC and SC for the NHC - but a very well placed source be about 6/7 weeks ago they've no intentions of going to the NHC with Sandor Clegane.
