Arkle 2020

Ah gotcha. Cheers.

I am not certain why specifically he hasn't been allowed to run as there are others that have no h'cap chase mark, but perhaps its because they have a hurdle mark, which he still doesn't have either. Suppose winning a novice chase by 11L is hard to create a mark on and he could well go over the 140 limit they have on the race considering VDT was the horse he beat!

Cheers Craig, no major issue yet, but hopefully entered in the next couple of weeks though.

Let’s hope so COD!

I backed him after his novice chase win for here purely because this race was a muddle for me at the time so thought he was definitely worth a point. Now Bapaume has failed hoping Annamix becomes one of mullins main fancies with cash back.

The rest look likely up in trip, melon the only other one I’d possibly consider.

Bare in mind 2010 was the last year Mullins had more than one runner in the Arkle

What do people make of chacun running his race 4 seconds quicker then notebook? As a notebook backer im quite pleased at that

The last two years renewals have been matched closer by Footpad + LR. One Arkle winner and one fancied one so it's not a negative anyway.

I've seen it mentioned somewhere (i believe it was Rowlands) about the distance each second makes but i can't remember what he said it was exactly.

I use 5 lengths per second as rule of thumb but so many variables that it's very approximate. A length is between 8ft and 9ft. 44 feet per second is 30 mph so it's in the ballpark.

Average 1 furlong sectionals for jumping is 15 seconds (4 minutes for 2 miles). Taking 220 yards(1 furlong) x 3 to convert to feet gives 660 feet. Then divide 660 feet by 15 gives 44 feet. Average horse length is 8 feet. So final calculation is 44 Feet divided by 8 feet gives 5 1/2 lengths.

Forget the math 1 second equals 5 1/2 lengths

Apologies VF and Archie didn't see your responses before posting

@ray worth reading rowlands time piece released a small time ago on this
https://www.attheraces.com/blogs/sectional-spotlight

Interesting but concerning. Concerning because someone is coming up with quite different times on Sunday for the 2mile hurdle races as compared to the official times. Can we believe his technology. Also specifically in relation to the 2 hurdle races on Saturday he is comparing apples and oranges unless he mentions weights. Honeysuckle even with her mares allowance carried 11-3. The first 3 in the Ladbrokes carried 10-0 or less. Until this evolves I will stick with RP TS ratings and racetrack official times.
But thanks for sharing Jack

The thing is Pendil you are happy sticking with the RP, yet their times differ from those of Timeform and also Irishracing.com for certain races as well. Who is right?

He gets 239.6 for AWOTS.

RP get 4mins flat.

Timeform 4mins 0.3

I don't think the fact his times are like points of a second different matter do you? He clearly has his ways + they do. He is one of the mainstays of timeform, so i guess he's not daft.

Anyway, it's of interest for Notebook...and he makes sense for that at least.

Do understand times aren't for everyone.

Interesting read/angle but i cant really draw any conclusion from that peice other then what the ground was more or less like over the 2 days!

I find The sectionals are useful for the times between hurdles, or to the line.
From the last three hurdles in and the overall time taken until then.
It gave me the thought that Honeysuckle was probably better than the bare result, as the time she and Petit took to go from 3 out to 2 out was very fast in comparison to all the other hurdle races.
between 2.5 to 3 seconds faster, which is a lot.
To me it explains a little why she finished a bit slower than it looked like she was going to.
She'd probably been going flat out for longer than ideal.
It was noticeable how all the others started to struggle between the third last and second last, and one or two eventually stayed on again

The worry would be that this is likely to happen in the Champion and will she get caught up the hill, and is there anything good enough to go that gallop and maintain it.

Leapordstown is strange in that alot of jockeys start a challenge with plenty of running left to do, id say this was what made honeysuckle not look to well..(id say the ride on delta work was pretty much timed to perfection) but to lose mpmentum against a petit mouchoir who at that point was cruising and still win was what i liked

It showed she's up for a battle and can get going again if required, although she was slowing down for sure.

Ill probably watch it again this evening, everyone is saying this years champ hurdle hasnt got the quality but its still gonna be a cracking race! i hope she turns up here

Agreed i like them for the same reasons.

Don't use them heavily for punting more for explanation. Particularly liked them for CPS v Min.
