Arkle 2020

I’ve backed Mister Fisher, he will be my 12th Arkle bet but at 33’s for this and 50’s for the JLT. I think he’s too a horse to be those prices and maybe the British ‘Notebook’

Are you joking about 12th Arkle bet TKP?

The average field in the last 10 years must be around 6 or 7

Christ, 12!

I hope you have cash out available otherwise I'd feel you are going to be chasing your tail right up until flag fall! It's a dangerous game, I have done it in previous years.

I presume you've got a strategy in place TKP.....

You said you were skint last night yet you've 12 on the Arkle....

I wish it was a joke but no. A cock up on my behalf mainly due to selecting too many TWAR with Hills in September. I need to be more disciplined next season and pick 3 horses per race but on the plus side it looks like I’m guaranteed to win at least 1 race on day 1 as long Laurina doesn’t turn up

But TWAR bets are not race specific? They could still end up elsewhere, or am I missing something?

No strategy, just getting carried away too early and not waiting to see which route horses were likely to take before betting.

Mister Fisher declared over 2m at Warwick in a race that contains two other debutantes (Lisp and Torpillo) who bring decent enough hurdles form to the table.

Are the first 3 that pop into my head for the Arkle[/QUOTE]

I don’t have a strategy, it’s just me getting too excited in September and not waiting to see how horses progress over trip in fear of missing a juicy price. I’ve got the following so far
Al Dancer, Good Boy Bobby, Get Away Trump, Brewinupastorm, Fakir D’Oundaries, Melon, Tornado Flyer, Quick Grabhim, Midnight Shadow, Nube Negra, Notebook, Mr Fisher!! I’m hoping one of them wins my money back!!!

Have you backed all of them for the Arkle or some TWAR?

all them without Laurina :highly_amused:
awesome.

I have GBB, Quick Grabim, Nube Negra and Midnight Shadow on TWAR but the rest don’t have cash outs available except Fakir. Hopefully the ugly mate Laurina buggers off back over hurdles (I know I’m in the minority!!) as I’ve missed the price but will probably try and over her in a few doubles when Sky go NRNB. I was going to post a diary thread titled ‘From Rags to No Rags’ a diary of a betting disaster but I think it will be quicker to rewrite the Old Testament so will have to sort through them and work out how to improve my returns on each race :triumphant:

Well you don't have 12 for the Arkle then, so that's a bit of a result for you.

Midnight Shadow goes up in trip, so I'm led to believe, maybe a handicapper, Good Boy Bobby & Nube Negra could turn out to be handicappers too, so don't think it's quite as bad as 12 for the Arkle :)

King Pimm, when your fortune is made on the horses, lottery etc, and you decide to have a horse in training. Promise me that you will call him TWELVE INTHE ARKLE in honour of this webchat. :very_drunk:

Lol Mr Elliott who has more Grand National wins than Mr Mullins and the same number of GC wins, but the comparison did make me laugh!!!

and My Tent Or Yours has his days in the sun too.... but ultimately was 2nd best at being the best 2 mile hurdler....

No shame in it :p At least I didn't call him The New One of training.

It's all about learning from mistakes TKP.

We can probably all relate in some way or another, my advice would be to perhaps use the forum as more of a sounding board before placing a bet than you are doing at the moment?

There are some very shrewd punters on here that are quite selective... if you followed them blindly you'd probably turn a profit. Others are much more scatter gun and look to build books, which could be dangerous if not done correctly?

I appreciate the advice Kev and will learn from the chaotic start my my Ante Post punting. I was late to the party last year so was keen not to miss out this year.

HF, if and when that day arrives I certainly will be investing in a horse for the forum called Twelve in the Arkle!!

I’m hoping a few of TWAR go else where and give me a chance of recouping some of the money I’ve laid down and hoping Laurina is more of a canal barge that a B52 bomber this spring!!

Sound advice, to which I would add the old truisms:
- consider any bet you make a losing bet until it wins.
- follow the advice from the Life of Brian about anyone that you consider a betting Messiah.

That's Gold that is Archie.

2.10 at Warwick tomorrow should be interesting. I want a Mister Fisher to be the real thing but I have a feeling Lisp will win. There's a piece of form from last year that he has with Global Citizen, which, were he to win tomorrow, would read VERY well for Brewin’ backers, especially given Brewin’s clock time in his chase win at Carlisle.

What are the views on Mister Fisher for this prior to this. I really was impressed by him last year up until Cheltenham and was excited by him going as a chaser, so much so I stuck him in a trixie with BOD and Saldier at nice prices. Listening to Henderson’s piece over the weekend he didn’t fill me with too much confidence re: him but maybe that was me reading too much into it.
