Arkle 2019

I was rewatching the Supreme the other night (I won't tell you at what hour - big industry awards do, meant I get in super late!) and I didn't notice as I was on Summerville and Kalashnikov, but Mengli Khan wasn't far away there at all. One i Have my eye on for sure

Over the last nine seasons, Mullins/Henderson/HdB have won it seven times between them with a hatfull of places also.

Just need to nail the three horses they elect to run!:p

Talking of 'crack' horses, anyone heard anything on Labaik recently?

He’s back in light training COD. Champion Hurdle the likely target if he’s ready in time. Few ownership issues to be settled also.

Happy that Willie's comments indicate neither Melon or Laurina will be coming here. Been getting reasonably stuck into Kalashnikov, Paloma Blue and Vision Des Flos (mostly any race), and a bit on Mengli Khan, including plenty of free bets. Will keep eye out for Mullins and Hendo's likely runners and hope nothing from left field throws a spanner in the works although expect Kev to spot the next Saint Calvados nice and early at a big price ;)

Haha you have to remember my 100/1 shot came 4th and Scoobys 25/1 shot came 1st...

so I'd re-read his posts in here and back that one any race.... jack also keen :) (and goes without saying I am on)

Decent move on Paloma Blue following the update from HDB

The plan is to go novice chasing with him and he’ll hopefully be ready to start back around mid-to-late November. I’d say we’ll start him off at two miles, but I could see him getting two-and-a-half miles at some stage. I was happy with his novice hurdle campaign last season. I was particularly happy with his run in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. He has the shape and make-up of a chaser, so we’re hopeful that we’ll see the best version of him this season. He took a bit of a grip at times last season, so fences might just settle him down a bit.

Not clear cut though in terms of target. Surprised he has been cut based on those comments to be honest....

Interesting comments on PB and won't be getting involved anymore now the 27.5/1 has gone. At least by starting at 2 miles if he is really top class he is likely to stay there (like Footpad), and if he's not quite good enough (and so is upped in trip) then highly likely wouldn't have won the Arkle anyway

I really don't think he's very good. He's also a terrible jumper of a hurdle imo. So he'd have to give his fences plenty more respect. Iv left this market well alone for now as cilaos emery any race the only angle I can see. Kalashnikov is the rightful fav but I don't like anything at all behind him in the betting. Kind of wish I took a chance on kalashnikov at a bigger price

I'm not overly keen however am going all-in on the "book" with no standout candidate so I'm already on (so therefore pleased with the shortening).... but certainly think him getting outcalssed and therefore pushed up in distance is a possibility.

I might even cash out

I just can't buy that Draconien is Mullins Arkle horse, it just doesn't sit right with me, to be fair I thought the same about Footpad last year before Christmas. I could be way off here but I went back to the drawing board last night to have a think about who it could be if it is not Drac.

When asked last year who was his best novice chaser (not that they were a great bunch) but Ricci said "Chacun Pour Soi has had his niggles but probably has the best potential." When interviewed by ATR again he was asked about novice chasers, "We've got some to come out, but there's one that I like called Chacun Pour Soi. He was very impressive in France and he could be a novice chaser this year, he's one to keep an eye on." He didn't make it to the track last year, strangely enough he was entered in a handicap in Taunton but never declared, I had thought this might be to get a mark in England and lock in a mark for the festival. I asked Joe Chambers last night and he confirmed the horse is back in Willies. Anyways PP have offered me 66s and 365 33s. I've had one unit at 66s.

The horse finished behind King's Socks (5th in Plate last year off 140) and Optimus Prime (2nd to Footpad in G1 at Punchestown) as a 4 year old that race was in March 16, the horse is still only 6. The horse came from Emmanuel Clayeux who has previously provided Mullins with Great Field and Al Boum Photo, he's also provided festival winner Delta Work to Elliott. Am I mad?

I can't seem to write Laurina off for this race just yet!

I mean Willie said pretty much all last season he can't wait to get her over a fence, so now decides she is going to have a tilt at the Champion Hurdle....seems about right! Also, the 2 main bookmakers, Betfair & PP, that we associate with the Irish contingent have her at 10's for this, this is the only race at least one of them is not top price for her as opposed to the other 2 markets she is in, maybe something in it, maybe just reading a little too much into how much knowledge is passed on by yards to bookmakers etc...

Of course, it's not a strong case for her, because of what Willie has now come and said about her, but right now I would not put this race out of the question, based solely on that!

Pretty sure he said the exact same thing about Melon.

I was all aboard the VDF train however after reviewing I’m happy that I went any race rather than the Arkle.

I would think they will split him and Pingshou, despite Tizzard not naming Pingshou instead saying they will split Lostintranslation, VDF and the Russian Doyen.

From Tizzards stable tour
He is a dark horse really and if he stays sound he’s a top class two-mile chaser.

Now I’m not racing to lump on Pingshou unit he is entered in something, but as discussed before the Arkle market will break up again and I see him as a single digit horse

Kevin Blake interested in three for the Arkle on ther FFP jumps preview...

Mengli Khan
Paloma Blue
Draconien

:)

I went to find a price on Pingshou but he isn't priced anywhere and don't like requesting them myself..... I did take note of the comments too

Best priced 20/1 with Coral (who I need to remember my log in with) or 16/1 with 365 and Lads

Was hoping for 25/33s given he’s been off for a year

Not surprising when you look at oddschecker, as the rest that are quoted are all supposedly going elsewhere at present.
Explains Kalashnikov price somewhat.
It looks the easiest race to narrow down based on stable plans at the moment, aside from left fielders.
There will obviously be some others to come out, but it could also end up a low runner race again.
I'd probably take Mengli out and put DEfi in. Hobbs has got to get his house in order again at the top level at some point.
