Arkle 2019

I think they are using the ground as a bit of an excuse with them all having a view to the spring.

As was mentioned there has been plenty of soft ground races that haven’t been used. Yesterday Tramore had a 2m and 2m5 maiden hurdle a 2m Novice chase, on Saturday Limerick was soft with Novice races that haven’t been utilised.

4 big festivals in 3 months now so I think they are trying to keep as many fresh as possible with a view to running horses at Dublin-Chelts-Punch, plus throwing a couple at Aintree.

I don’t understand what Mullins is playing at, half the season has passed him by and most of his novices haven’t been seen. Yes I know the ground hasn’t been soft enough but surely he can find somewhere to run them even if it means travelling with a bunch of them to England. Novices need experience, the next problem will be snow then they won’t be ready for Cheltenham

They're not just sat in there box. They've had plenty of away days schooling, and at home
He knows what he's doing.

Agreed, I ca see both Willie and Elliott main contenders becoming more favourable as we near the Irish Festival and the main event in March

It appears our Winter months have yet to start, and if its anything to go by from last year, we could be in for a testing cheltenham festival. Freshness could play a big part

As it stands, its difficult to make a case for some of their horses, but that means bigger prices in the antepost markets...

I think our lot look weak for this years Arkle, with myself taking silly prices on horses that havent produced yet or even ran yet (Slate House for one)

Away days schooling isn’t the same as race experience. It only takes a few weeks of bad weather and those with little to no experience Cilaos Emery and next destination being prime examples are massively disadvantaged as they could have to go to Cheltenham off 1 run.

Kauto, whilst i can see what you're saying, do you not think Willie Mullin's and Co have half a clue what they're at?

Dublin festival is one to have a keen eye on - form worked out very well at Cheltenham last year

Yeah - he hasn't got a clue has he? Feckin' multiple Champion trainers!

Willie knows what he is doing. He has had multiple festival winners with zero runs let alone just 1

Not ideal for novice chasers to have no runs by January though, definitely risky (if the target is indeed cheltenham in march) as one mistake and you're back to square one with time running out and possible abandonments etc, so KS has a point

Samcro might as well go chasing

Obviously Mullins is the daddy I’m not debating that. It’s a big difference winning a mares hurdle off 1 run to winning an arkle and even less likely an rsa where they are almost always won by experienced novices! 11/12 previous winners had at least 3 runs

Is that ANOTHER bet in the 'I promise I will not back another horse in this race Arkle' Scooby?

Haha it is :highly_amused:.
And I also forgot about that again.

Hopefully it's a good shout though. As he was visually very impressive when beating trees last time. Literally stones in hand.

Brave shout, Scoob. Campeador - from the Italian for Bulldozer.

I think that race, and this coming race should he be declared. Will be a nice confidence booster and get him on a winning run. He's not fundamentally a bad bumper as his record would suggest. I think he'd hack up on Sunday.

Learned something new. Apt if it's true. :)

No you didn't - it's not!
Seriously though, that last race was a great improvement and, in fairness, he did jump well - just worry about the baggage. And Cheltenham will be a true test of his ability to jump efficiently at speed. What's his hurdle mark, out of interest?

150 hurdle and at 40 or 50's worth chancing he can get round

150. So likely too high for a county etc... when others will be thrown in. But shows he's classy.
