Arkle 2019

Faugheen_Machine mentioned a possible race at Gowran thursday 24th.

Thanks Archie thats very helpful

Hopefully Gowran on the 24th

DDT and MK Elliot's two for the Irish Arkle. Said he'd run two in it but didn't mention Hardline. Glad I didn't back it now.

Gary Moore sounds reluctant to run Knocknanuss if the rain comes.

Kayley Woollacott would not be afraid to send Lalor straight to the Cheltenham Festival without another run if the ground remains fast.

Woollacott is hoping to run her stable star in the Lightning Novices' Chase at Doncaster on January 26 as a prep race for the Arkle in March.

But if rain fails to materialise Woollacott would have no qualms about sending the seven-year-old straight to Prestbury Park, for which he is around a 5/1 chance.

"Lalor is in really good form, he's done some lovely pieces of work recently. He's ticking along, looks great and has been squealing and bucking every day," the trainer said in her Betway blog.

"We're really pleased with him at the moment.

"The plan is still the Lightning Novices' Chase at Doncaster at the end of the month, although we'll need some rain. As long as it's genuinely good ground, he'll be fine.

"If it's too quick, he'll go straight to Cheltenham, and I wouldn't be worried about the gap between races. He's always gone well fresh."

I'm half hoping he doesn't run at Donny tbh... would love him to go straight there as I also think he goes really well fresh as we saw on debut this season.

CE entered

Rain due over the weekend @ Gowran too, though is dry next week. Current going is 'Yielding' so with the rain over the weekend we may be in luck, even if it does dry out a little during the week.

If he was to take up this engagement on the 24th do we think a second run in February or straight to the festival?

I’d say Willie would like to get two runs into him before the festival after a good lay off to avoid any chance of the ‘bounce’ factor.

He’ll get his ground at Gowran!

Good lot of rain on Friday, a little on Saturday....Next week there seems to be quite a bit due, but that's a while a way yet!

Around 10mm Friday
2.6 Saturday
18.3 Monday
4 Tues
5.5 Wed
For reference i use Yr.no

If CE doesn't run next Thursday then I'd say it is highly unlikely he is chasing at Cheltenham.

Whenever the ground comes right he'll run. There's no cause for concern. As they said once again today today ....

"A lot of ours are winning, a lot have run well, a few have been beaten and some have run badly.

Sure, you could say some were disappointing, but that’s more reflective of what we’re running at the moment due to the unseasonably quick ground.

There’s been a few maiden winners who have stepped up in class and haven’t proved quite good enough.

It’s going to be a very busy and informative couple of weeks coming up with the Thyestes Chase,
The going will dictate who we send in the end, but it’s not just about the feature race.

There’ll be a lot of trainers trying to get a run into their Festival horses on the undercard too, so it should be a great occasion"

It’s going to be a very busy and informative couple of weeks coming up with the*Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park*next week and the*Dublin Racing Festival*the weekend after.

We’ve plenty of entries for both but it could be the first good ground running of the Thyestes in a very long time. The going will dictate who we send in the end, but it’s not just about the feature race.

There’ll be a lot of trainers trying to get a run into their Festival horses on the undercard too, so it should be a great occasion.

I don't doubt that but will they run him in the Arkle with only 1 chase start to his name? I'd suspect not, but that is just my opinion.

The temptation will be to hold him back for a novice chase campaign next season and is probably the reason he has been given a English and Irish champion hurdle entry.

Hope you are right btw.

You could easily send him with 1 run, if thats what they want to do.
Melon went to the supreme with 1 run. He was beaten by the better horse on the day.

I'd fully expected him to get an entry for the CH. He's fully entitled to with his hurdles rating. Douvan, min, yorkhill all had Irish and English CH entries also.

Of course you could send him with one run but it's far from ideal. Well Chief is the only horse to win the Arkle with 1 run under his belt since I've been following the sport, and he was v talented.

Did Footpad get a champion hurdle entry last season?

Not similar in any way. Footpad had already proved himself over fences. Currently CE has not. What happens if he runs in a Beginners, jumps crap or falls? They need a back-up. With Footpad we already knew he was electric.

I don't remember Min, Douvan or Yorkhill getting champion hurdle entries during their novice chase campaigns either ( I could be wrong).

Perhaps it's because they are running out of time without CE and it is a safety net.
