2026 Ryanair Chase

Agree. IMO he's got a bit to prove and has under performed the last 3. If GW was confirmed for the race like F2F then they'd be very close together in the betting. I happen to think GW will end up over the mid trip as I believe he can treat us to an Allaho like performance and blitz them from the start. For me, the Gold Cup trip would just be too much for him and blunt his best assets and having PT on him must be a big advantage. 10/1 is a huge price IMO.
If F2F ran to his John Durkan form (and GW didn’t run) he’d win by 10+ lengths.

If GW runs here he goes off shorter than 10s I do agree but given the ground / left handed aspect, I’d be very surprised if he can hold the JD form with F2F.

Big race tomorrow for this race.
Probably the first time I’ve wanted Jonbon to lose , as if he were to win they might well go QM with him.
Cant see it happening, and hoping the race tells them he should go Ryanair.
Race needs him more than the QM does, he would make it much more interesting imo.

I took a nibble on him a few weeks back, so although I’m biased, I agree. No chance in the 2 miler.

I’m hoping Gidleigh Park puts his name in the hat for a Ryanair or Champion Chase tomorrow.

Felt he was overpriced e/w at 40/1 & 50/1 respectively.

Pretty well backed tomorrow

Jonbon just looks like a horse that has gone to the well too many times to me

They cant keep going forever. He just doesnt look the same horse he was and a change in trip wont change that.
I thought that he’d get beaten in Clarence House and go Ryanair, but you’re right, he looks on the decline. May well get placed, but can’t see him winning at present. 16/1 each way looks ok

I think he’s telling us he’s not the same horse, but not by a huge amount imo
He’s still running good races not that far behind a horse considered by some to be the best 2 miler around.
He’s stepped up In distance twice before and won both times.
To me the Ryanair distance would suit him fine and imo that’s his race should they go to the festival with him.
imo his presence would add to the race and I think he would run a big race.
Let’s see how he performs today, a decent race should see him still able to compete at a high level come March.

When you consider he’s fairly similar in ratings to FTF and a fair bit higher to last years runner up, he’s certainly an interesting runner in that regard.

Think Jonbon has to be the best most non loved horse of all time. Quite brilliant record but one I've never backed. Plenty of others are in the same boat. Sorry Jonbon.

I don’t know why anyone would think after 4 Cheltenham festival visits and only being a NR the other time due to issues at Hendos yard that Jonbon would have any chance in a Ryanair?!

He has clearly shown over his career that Cheltenham is where he is not at his best. I’ve been a huge admirer of the horse and he’s had a fantastic race career but most of it is away from Cheltenham. Maybe I’m overreacting as I don’t back each way but he’s not going to shorten imo or I’d be very surprised if he did, you could almost wait till entries and get a similar price and possible a clearer picture of the field surely?!

He’s going to be 10 years old, I know people will point to the performance stepped up in trip for the second time last season, but again, where was it? Aintree away from the festival, after making a hash of the champion chase.

Each to their own and I know you are not alone as been on this forum for a few years now!!
He’s proven at the distance, and has performed well at Cheltenham.
He’s rated to run a big race.
10 years old of course is getting on, but imo his last race told me he’s more than capable of competing at the level required in a Ryanair.
Until the horse tells me he’s done, I stick to my beliefs about him.
He’s not done that.
As I said , each to their own.

Yeah, I be always find it a bit strange having the sort of dislike for a horse I’ve read a fair few times on here.
I always put it down to being the brother of Douvan and for some reason being resented for it with the success he’s had. Might be wrong of course, but can’t think of anything else to be honest.
Never been out the first two in a long string of grade 1’s.
Horse to be admired imo.

Do you back each way CAT out of interest? Reason I ask is imo of course, you’re playing for 2 places as he won’t win. So at 16/1 take away your win part you’re essentially getting 6/4ish (maybe a little bigger) for 2 places (hope that maths is close to being correct :ROFLMAO:).

Official ratings tell you he’s regressing as well though? Add to that he’s never lost on seasonal debut, he’s now lost 2 on the spin. He’s clearly not the same animal at Cheltenham imo but I can also say he’s come up against a couple of beasts in his 2 novice visits. Then you have the 2 champion chases where he should have won at least 1 if he was at his best (the other pulled due to stable issue) which he just isn’t at Cheltenham.

I wouldn’t say dislike for the horse, it’s a dislike in backing him for Cheltenham.

I love the horse and think he’s had a phenomenal race career to be honest……away from Cheltenham. And we all the know the greats etc are remembered most for what they do at Cheltenham and Aintree (Grand National) imo.

We'll put Craigy. Just shows what a bookies benefit is when punters bet EW singles for anything less than say 33's+.

Better maybe to wait and bet place only for those unlikely to win.

CAT. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: 👏🥰
The dislike is because this is a cheltenham antepost forum and he loses everytime he turns up, after looking good everywhere else all season and nearly always a short price.

If anyone on here dislikes him because of who his horse brother is, then they are as mental as you are suggesting it.

Probably up there now with one of my favourite posts ever on here. 😍
