2026 Novice Hurdlers

Gigi might want Ballyfad in the Supreme, Classical Creek in the Turners, and Jalon in the Bartlett for example.

Lazare De Star or Skylight Hustle going up in trip for the Bartlett, with El Cairos remaining in the Supreme would then fit nicely for Robcour to split there’s across the three races.

Taking any preferences out for antepost bets already done, does anyone have any thoughts?

….if Classical Creek wins the Naas race, you’d be think he’d be Turners bound otherwise maybe AB.

Yes of course. A brain fade while I was writing.

What I meant was El Cairos is sure to stay at 2 miles and the Robcour horses would split across the 2 races, with the Gigi horses conveniently split up across all three. Those splits feel logical with regards ownership.

It may be that Elliott feels differently with regards to the most suitable race for each though.

Supreme….El C and I think Ballyfad may join him
Skylight go Turners imo
That’s my thoughts judging on what I’ve seen of them so far

Agreed. He's already stated a Turners preference, so it’s why he’s running him there and Jalon would easily slot into the Bartlett if it works out well. I suspect the race will also decide Ballyfad’s destination.

Actually there’s another one to throw into the mix that I’d forgotten, and that’s Port Authority. I suspect he’s the one that they had pencilled in for the Turners.

Didn’t they say he bled at Christmas? Before that he smashed Murat 17 lengths, and Murat was the one that turned Doctor Du Mesnil over when El Cairos fell.

I have. I can’t see him in either of the other two races, and 100/1 is almost a bet to nothing.

371D Tote Guarantee Navan Novice H'dle
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Port Authority, trained by Gordon Elliott, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard and had a graze to the left fore canon bone post race.

Can't find anything about a bleed, unless Gordon mentioned it in an interview, although its not usually something you'd mention when you've already had a vet say the horse had a graze on his leg, could just blame everything on that as no one likes a bleeder.

The mention of blowing hard is a worry, the horse wouldn't have been totally unfit as only ran 4 or 5 weeks previous, wonder if they had him scoped afterwards as with the blowing hard I'd wonder did he have a bit of mucus or a bug, if Gordon mentioned blood in mucus that'd track much better imo so if this was said or quoted somewhere maybe theres a couple of words missing that complete the puzzle.

EV’s fav in the four runner race at Navan over Xmas and travelled well until 2 out where he went out like a light

Found to be blowing hard after the race and had a graze on his leg

The 2 1/2 mile Navan race, won by Doctor Steinburg is one that Sax highlights as being a good trend indicator for the potato race

I’d also add that his bumper form was top notch. He had an interrupted prep that year and still was only just beaten by Jasmin de Vaux and Romeo Coolio.

After 600 days off there’s a fair chance he was feeling his first race too, and I think he’ll improve for the step up to 3 miles. He’s also 7 now so they’ll almost certainly be giving him every chance.

Elliott has always talked highly of him.

Jalon 100/1 for the Potato race. Is it worth taking?
100/1 is a great price.

Himself & Classical Creek, or maybe both if things pan out that way, will end up in the race, a race that Gigginstown and Gordon have plenty of previous with, not necessarily always the winner, but horses that also place or are well fancied prior to the off.

Where did he state Turners for CC @Spectre ? I haven't seen that and it may have a bearing on what I do with my bets on him.

Cheers.

Let me try and find it. I added the note to my tracker but not where I saw it or heard it. Too much racing and media over Christmas!!

It was Koktail Brut Gordon had said burst at Christmas, badly by all accounts.

This was one I also thought he mentioned about going out in trip too, so he would be Giggs Turners horse, provided all is well with him, of course.

Way too many variables really to have any sort of idea where the elliott novices will be split at the moment.

The only thing I would be reasonably confident about is el cairos as the main supreme dart with kennedy on. After that, is a bunch of horses with no obvious preference between two trips. And no clear standouts on ability, apart from tentatively saying that jalon is probably bottom of the pack at the moment. Between the owners splitting them, and guessing who kennedy would want to be on, there's probably about five or six realistic ways they could be split.

Lazare de star strikes me as one that could just skip the festival too if skylight hustle ends up in the turners. Robcour wouldn't be all about cheltenham like some owners, so may just skip if they didn't want to go over three miles this early.
